JAIL411 / FAMILY FIELD GUIDE
A practical guide to Coweta County adult Sheriff jail custody.
Sources reviewed
Current adult county-jail custody and family services operated by the Coweta County Sheriff at 560 Greison Trail, Newnan, Georgia. The separate Coweta County Prison/Correctional Institution, youth, state, federal, immigration, municipal, court, supervision, historical, transitional and contract identities remain outside this guide.
- Confirm custody
Save the booked name, inmate ID, current housing, charges and bond entries before paying or traveling.
- Choose the channel
Match the task to JailATM, Pay Tel, jail staff, the correct clerk or counsel.
- Confirm the handoff
Call about entrance, accessibility, health, property and release details that are not public.
Find the person
Live custody, identity and system boundaries.
Start with the live Coweta inmate catalog
- Search the Sheriff-linked Police-to-Citizen inmate catalog. Use the exact booked name and save the inmate number, booking date, charges, bond entries and housing information the live record displays.
- If the portal rejects the request or there is no result, do not assume release. Recheck spelling and aliases, allow for booking processing, ask the arresting agency where the person was taken, then call the Jail Division at 770-253-1664. Have full legal name, date of birth, arrest date and arresting agency ready.
- Keep the systems separate. Use the Georgia DOC search only for state custody, the BOP locator for federal custody and the ICE locator for immigration detention.
The inmate catalog is a live transaction surface and may be temporarily unavailable. For an older booking record rather than current custody, use the Sheriff’s online records-request route. An arrest record is not a conviction.

Use these rules only for the active adult Sheriff jail
In scope: Coweta County Jail, operated 24 hours a day by the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division at 560 Greison Trail, Newnan, GA 30263. The Sheriff publishes the direct jail number as 770-253-1664.
| Separate identity | Correct start | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Coweta County Prison / Correctional Institution | 101 Selt Road; county Prison and GDC pages | Separate county department under GDC regulation that houses state and some county offenders; it is not the Sheriff jail. |
| Youth custody | Georgia DJJ; Martha K. Glaze RYDC serves Coweta | Youth detention rules and records are separate. |
| State, federal or immigration custody | GDC, BOP or ICE locator | Each has a different operator and family rules. |
| Municipal police, courts and supervision | Arresting agency, assigned court or supervising office | They may affect a case but are not this housing facility. |
No municipal, historical/closed, transitional or contract identity was attached to this guide without current operator evidence.

Arrange a video visit
Local schedule, preparation, failures and access.
Book video visitation; face-to-face family visits are not offered
The Sheriff says ordinary face-to-face family visits no longer occur. Create an account at JailATM, select Coweta County Jail and the correct inmate, then request or schedule a video visit. Each visit is limited to 15 minutes; the inmate is allowed 1 free video visit per week. Published daily tablet and kiosk access windows are 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m., subject to jail operations.
Disciplinary segregation limits visits to attorneys, law-enforcement officials and facility chaplains. Attorney options include a private jail booth, a JailATM private video visit after the attorney account is approved, or authorized face-to-face contact in the jail area. Family visitors should not infer that professional access is available to them.

Prepare minors, clothing and unanswered exceptions
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Minors | A visitor under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. No relationship, birth-certificate or consent-letter rule is published. |
| Clothing | Men need a sleeved shirt, pants or shorts at/below the knee and shoes. For all visitors: no short shorts; halter tops; dresses/skirts more than 2 inches above the knee; see-through blouses; tank tops; bathing suits; exposed/misused undergarments; or shoulder-exposing attire. |
| ID | The jail FAQ does not publish a complete family-visitor ID list or alternatives. JailATM may require identity verification for some accounts, but that provider rule is not a jail entrance rule. |
| Infant, medical and disability items | No public jail list was found. Call 770-253-1664 before depending on an exception. |
Inappropriate exposure or dress can end a visit and lead to a temporary or permanent bar. The Sheriff does not publish a special/long-distance visit process, late-arrival grace period, visitor-list approval rule or belongings/storage policy for family video visits.

Set up JailATM and preserve evidence of a failed visit
- Create and activate the account. Use a complete email address, save the activation message and set the account time zone correctly.
- Search with the right identity. Select Georgia and Coweta County Jail, then search by at least 4 letters of the last name or by inmate ID.
- Test before the appointment. JailATM recommends Chrome on Windows and Safari on iOS; allow camera and microphone access and run the Video Test. A headset can reduce audio feedback.
- Connect on time. Log in within 5 minutes of the scheduled start, open My Account → Calling → My Scheduled Calls and use Connect.
- Document failure. Save the appointment, resident name/ID, date/time, error and account history. JailATM does not credit caller-side internet, computer or browser problems. Other refund requests are reviewed case by case within 72 hours and, if approved, are account credits.
Use the JailATM video-support form and do not submit a full card number. The public jail page does not publish Coweta-specific paid-video prices, cancellation notice or facility-failure remedy.

Request jail and transit accommodations separately
For a jail visit, first call 770-253-1664 with the appointment date, communication aid, mobility device or other access need and ask where staff will meet you. Coweta County’s accommodation page provides an online reasonable-accommodation form and lists the Risk and Safety Manager/ADA Director/Title VI contact at 770-254-2604. That county process does not identify the jail’s accessible entrance or screening rules.
For Coweta Connect, tell reservations what assistance is needed. Wheelchair-accessible service, secured wheelchairs, portable oxygen/respirators and service animals are supported; an attendant or companion for a rider with a disability may ride free. Transit modifications also go to the county ADA coordinator. An accessible vehicle does not prove the final jail entrance or public path is accessible; confirm both handoffs.

Stay connected
Separate accounts, calls, mail, publications and trust funds.
Keep visitation, phone and inmate funds distinct
| Purpose | Channel | Keep |
|---|---|---|
| Video visit / messages | JailATM visitor account | Account email, inmate ID, appointment and transaction history |
| Telephone calls | Pay Tel receiving-number account/support | Receiving number, account confirmation and failed-call time |
| Commissary, phone, tablet and medical use inside | Inmate Commissary Account via JailATM, bonding-area ATM or approved money order | Inmate name/ID and receipt or instrument copy |
Confirm current custody before every payment. The jail says commissary-account funds may support phone and tablet use inside, but that does not establish that a Pay Tel family balance or JailATM video credit is interchangeable with the inmate trust account.
Sources: Coweta County Sheriff: jail bonds, mail, money, calls and visitation FAQ · JailATM: account, deposit and video support · Pay Tel: account, block, balance-transfer and refund FAQ
Use Pay Tel for calls and billing problems
Inmates cannot receive incoming calls. Absent disciplinary restrictions and subject to jail operations, calls may be placed daily approximately 8:00 a.m.–10:30 p.m.. The Sheriff identifies Pay Tel as the provider and directs billing errors, billing blocks and unwanted-call blocks to 800-729-8355.
- Set up the receiving phone number through Pay Tel and keep the confirmation.
- If a call fails, note the exact time, receiving number and message; check carrier spam/unknown-call blocking, then contact Pay Tel.
- For unwanted calls, use Pay Tel’s automated block route or call the jail Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- After transfer or release, ask Pay Tel about the specific balance. Its FAQ describes refund and inactive-balance processes, but the jail does not publish which account options are enabled locally.
No Coweta-specific per-minute rate, voicemail, tablet-message price or transfer deadline was found; verify the live provider checkout instead of using an unofficial rate.

Resolve the official ZIP-code conflict before sending a postcard
Personal incoming mail must be a metered or pre-stamped white postcard, written only in blue or black ink, between 3.5 × 4.25 inches and 4.25 × 6 inches. Include the inmate’s full name and inmate number.
[Inmate full name / inmate number]
925 B Peachtree St. NE, Box 2062
Atlanta, GA 30309
Official conflict: the dedicated Sheriff mail-policy page publishes ZIP 30309, while the broader jail FAQ publishes 30303. This guide uses the more specific policy page but recommends calling 770-253-1664 before mailing until the Sheriff reconciles the conflict. Postcards sent to 560 Greison Trail are returned.
Legal/privileged mail and money orders are the only incoming items accepted in envelopes. The public policy defines privileged senders but does not publish a complete legal-mail address format; counsel should confirm the envelope and address with the jail before sending.

Do not send photos, books or packages under the postcard policy
Rejected postcards include altered/defaced cards; plastic or wrapping; paint, crayon or marker; labels, stickers, watermarks or stains; perfume, lipstick or other biohazards; nudity, weapons or gang references; and cards with an affixed stamp. The policy’s security rationale also names Polaroid photographs, adhesives, greeting cards, hardback books and envelopes as prohibited risks.
Effective March 16, 2023, the Sheriff says it does not accept publications delivered by the public. It reports a TechFriends digital library on tablets; religious material may be bought from the commissary provider or requested from the jail chaplain, and Newnan Times-Herald subscriptions are excepted. The FAQ says all outside items are returned to sender.
No current family-photo channel, publisher-direct book exception, approved seller, package program or rejection appeal was published. Do not treat the tablet-library statement as a guarantee that a specific title is available; call the jail before buying anything.

Fund the commissary account with the exact identifiers
The Sheriff publishes 3 deposit routes:
- Online: JailATM.
- In person: cash, credit or debit card at the ATM in the Sheriff’s Office bonding area.
- Mail: a completely filled money order to 560 Greison Trail. Make it payable to Coweta County Detention Center; put the inmate’s full name and ID number on the memo line; include the sender’s name/address and signature. Never send cash or a personal check. U.S. Postal money orders are credited immediately; the Sheriff publishes at least a 10-day hold for other money orders.
For store use, money must arrive by 11:00 p.m. Sunday or it waits until the following week. The FAQ says no more than $100 is accepted “at any time” but does not clarify whether that means per deposit or another limit; confirm before sending. Inmate-to-inmate transfers and purchases under another inmate’s name are prohibited.

Get there
Arrival limits, reserved county transit and local services.
Confirm the task-specific entrance before driving
Use 560 Greison Trail, Newnan, GA 30263 for the Sheriff Jail Division. The same official material refers to the Sheriff’s Office bonding area for deposits and bond transactions, but it does not establish that booking, bonding, visitation, property and release use one public entrance.
- Confirm the person is still housed here.
- Call 770-253-1664 and name the task: video kiosk, bond, money deposit, legal visit, property or release pickup.
- Ask for the correct entrance, screening, accessible drop-off and permitted waiting location.
No official page reviewed names a visitor parking lot, public parking hours, towing boundary, accessible route or release door. Do not wait in an unverified lot or block a secure drive.

Reserve Coweta Connect; there is no fixed jail stop
Coweta Connect is curb-to-curb, demand-response transportation within Coweta County, not a fixed-route bus. Call 770-683-RIDE (7433) by noon for next-day service. Trips are first-come, first-served and depend on availability; the posted fare is $3 one way. General service is Monday–Friday, excluding holidays, generally 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m..
Give the pickup address and 560 Greison Trail, say the trip is to the jail, request access assistance and ask where the driver can legally meet you. Drivers may assist boarding/exiting but may not enter homes; riders may carry only what they can manage. Riders under 16 need an adult. Cancel by 8:00 a.m. on the service day to avoid the published suspension rules.
Seven operator-supported service dates from the review date: Monday Sept. 28, Tuesday Sept. 29, Wednesday Sept. 30, Thursday Oct. 1, Friday Oct. 2, Monday Oct. 5 and Tuesday Oct. 6, 2026. These are derived from the published weekday rule; they are not reservations, holiday overrides or live vehicle availability. Confirm every trip with dispatch.

Use verified local directories without assuming walkability
For an overnight stay, the official tourism directory lists Best Western - Shenandoah, 620 GA-34 E., Newnan, GA 30265, 770-304-9700, and other Newnan hotels. For food, the tourism restaurant directory lists Redneck Gourmet, 11 N. Court Square, Newnan, GA 30263, 770-251-0092, among many options. Confirm current hours, inventory, price and accessibility directly; no room, meal, route or walkability is promised here.
For crisis assistance, One Roof Outreach reports food, clothing and financial help for Coweta families at 255 Temple Avenue, Newnan, GA 30263. Contact it before travel to confirm intake, eligibility and hours. These are optional community resources, not jail services and not approved waiting locations.

Protect wellbeing
Health messages, complaints, PREA and verified programs.
Send health information without expecting protected details back
The Sheriff says the jail provides appropriate medical care but staff cannot discuss an inmate’s medical issues with third parties, including immediate family, because of health-privacy law. The public pages do not identify the medical contractor, family-information line or a medication/eyeglasses drop-off process.
- For urgent information, call the Jail Division at 770-253-1664 and clearly ask staff to pass a time-sensitive health message to medical.
- Provide booked name, inmate ID, date of birth, medication name/dose, last dose, pharmacy/prescriber, allergies and the caller’s number. Do not bring medication or glasses unless staff gives case-specific instructions.
- For an immediate life threat, tell staff exactly why it is emergent; outside callers should use 911 for their own emergency.
For a family member’s community mental-health crisis, Georgia’s 24/7 GCAL line is 800-715-4225. GCAL is not the jail medical unit and cannot order jail treatment.

Separate an inmate grievance from a public county complaint
No public Sheriff page reviewed gives the inmate grievance form, kiosk/menu route, filing deadline, response time or appeal. The incarcerated person should ask housing staff how to submit and retain a grievance or medical request and should record dates, request numbers and responses when permitted. Family can call Jail Division administration at 770-253-1664 or email the division director from the official Jail Division page, but an outside call is not a substitute for exhausting an internal remedy.
For disability access or discrimination in a county program, use Coweta County’s accommodation/complaint page or call the ADA Director/Title VI contact at 770-254-2604. For a copy of the current jail grievance policy or records, use the Sheriff’s online open-records route. Do not publish a deadline until the jail supplies the current policy.

Ask for the jail-specific PREA reporting channel
The reviewed Coweta Sheriff jail pages do not publish a jail PREA coordinator, third-party hotline, mailing address, anonymous-report channel or recent jail audit. The separate Coweta County Prison page has its own PREA contacts under GDC oversight; do not use those prison rules as if they govern the Sheriff jail.
To report sexual abuse or harassment involving someone at the jail, call 770-253-1664 and ask specifically for the Coweta County Jail PREA reporting channel and immediate protection. If the alleged abuser is staff or disclosure to the first contact is unsafe, ask to reach the Jail Division director or another supervisor and preserve the date, name/title, report number and instructions. Use 911 for an immediate outside emergency. The exact third-party and anonymous procedures remain an urgent publication gap for the Sheriff.

Treat chaplain and tablet statements as the verified program floor
The mail policy verifies only a limited program picture: religious material may be purchased through commissary or requested from the jail chaplain, and the Jail Division was working with TechFriends to provide more than 2,000 digital books on tablets. The public pages do not publish current eligibility or schedules for education, substance-use treatment, mental-health groups, work release, legal library, veterans services or reentry classes.
The incarcerated person should ask housing staff or the chaplain what is currently available and how to enroll. Families should not pay a third party or promise sentence credit based on an unofficial listing. Request the current inmate handbook or program list through the Sheriff’s records route if a documented policy is needed.

Court and coming home
Counsel, bond, property, release and reentry.
Identify the court and reach the correct defender
The jail is not the courthouse. Coweta County Justice Center is 72 Greenville Street, Newnan, GA 30263. Use the live booking record and court search to capture the case number, charging court, next event and bond entry, then confirm with the correct clerk: Superior Court Clerk 770-254-2690 or State Court Clerk 770-254-2699, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Magistrate Court is at the same Justice Center, Suite 1200, 770-254-2610.
For Superior Court indigent defense, the current Coweta Circuit Public Defender main office is 8B Madison Street, Newnan, GA 30263, 770-254-2704, Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. State Court uses a separate appointed-defender process; an application must be sworn and filed, and requesting counsel does not excuse a court date. Appointed State Court clients may call 770-254-2658. Give counsel the booked name, inmate ID, case number, charges and next date.

Confirm every charge, surcharge and hold before paying
Bond amounts are set by a judge; the Sheriff administers posting. One person may have multiple bonds. The official FAQ describes cash, Coweta property, out-of-county property and approved professional bonds. A separate nonrefundable $20 cash fee per bond instrument is published, and credit/debit transactions carry an additional 8% fee.
| Method | Critical rule |
|---|---|
| Cash bond | Full bond plus surcharges. During Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., the FAQ requires MoneyGram or a cashier/bank check drawn on a local Coweta bank; after hours it narrows accepted instruments and allows cash only after listed vendors are closed. Confirm the exact current instrument before purchase. |
| Coweta property | Property must meet the Sheriff’s ownership, residence, tax, title and signer rules; all required owners must appear with government ID. |
| Out-of-county property | Start with the Sheriff where the property sits; the sealed package must reach Coweta before midnight on the date signed. |
| Professional company | Use a Coweta-authorized company. Jail staff cannot recommend one; the company fee is nonrefundable. |
Before paying, ask the jail for each charge, total required, court, bond restriction and every hold. A posted bond does not guarantee immediate release.
Sources: Coweta County Sheriff: jail bonds, mail, money, calls and visitation FAQ · Coweta County Sheriff: Jail Division identity and contact
Do not arrive for property without case-specific authorization
The public Sheriff jail pages do not publish inmate property-release authorization, claimant ID, pickup hours, allowed clothing exchange, retention deadline or disposition process. The only published release-to-outsider procedure concerns money: while still in booking, the inmate may complete a form for the full amount brought in, and the outside party must pick it up in less than 12 hours. Once funds are on the account, the rules become much narrower.
For clothing, keys, wallet, phone or documents, have the inmate ask staff for the current authorization process. Before traveling, call 770-253-1664 with the inmate name/ID, item and intended recipient; ask for the correct entrance, accepted ID, hours and whether the inmate must sign first. Do not treat the money-release rule as permission to collect other property.
Sources: Coweta County Sheriff: jail bonds, mail, money, calls and visitation FAQ · Coweta County Sheriff: Jail Division identity and contact
Build a flexible pickup plan, not a promised release time
A court order, posted bond or displayed date does not establish when someone will walk out. Confirm with the jail that release is authorized and ask about other county warrants, probation/parole, state, federal or immigration holds. The Sheriff publishes no universal processing time, release door, discharge-medication process, clothing requirement or after-hours transport procedure.
- Keep the released person’s full name, inmate ID, court/case and bond receipt.
- Ask the jail where and when the public may wait and whether staff can relay a ride plan.
- Keep the driver reachable and avoid waiting in an unverified secure or private lot.
- Ask the released person to check property and account paperwork before leaving when possible.
Account money cannot be divided or transferred between inmates. Outside release after account posting is generally limited to an approved bonding company or a person with financial power of attorney, for the full balance, and only Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; no Wednesdays, weekends or holidays.

Connect release needs to the right community office
| Need | Contact | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Felony probation/parole supervision | Georgia DCS Newnan, 51 B Perry St., 770-254-7204, Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. | Supervision office, not the jail; confirm reporting instructions on release paperwork. |
| SNAP, Medicaid or TANF | Coweta DFCS, 533 Highway 29 North, 770-254-7234; benefits line 877-423-4746. | Eligibility and appointments are not automatic after release. |
| Food, clothing or crisis help | One Roof Outreach, 255 Temple Avenue; contact before arrival. | Confirm eligibility, inventory and intake hours. |
| Mental-health/substance-use crisis | GCAL 800-715-4225, 24/7. | Community crisis access, not jail medical care. |
Before discharge, ask the incarcerated person to obtain ID/property, medication information, court dates, supervision location and account paperwork. The jail publishes no formal reentry handoff or transportation promise, so build backup transport and phone access.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
