JAIL411 / FAMILY FIELD GUIDE

A practical guide to Coweta County's separate adult prison.

Sources reviewed

County-operated, GDC-regulated adult male prison at 101 Selt Road, Newnan. It houses state offenders and some local misdemeanor/WRC cases. Local Coweta prison rules control where directly published; state locator, parole, release-card, provider and policy steps are limited to people and subjects for which applicability is supported or explicitly confirmed.

  1. Confirm the authority

Save exact name, GDC or County ID, current facility and whether the sentence is state or local.

  2. Confirm before paying or traveling

Use the Counselor's Office for local visits, direct mail and facility-specific provider questions.

  3. Plan release by sentence type

Use parole tools only for a state case; use the sentencing court and Warden/counselor for a local case.

PART 01

Confirm the prison record

Identity, custody authority and lookup troubleshooting.

This is the county prison, not the Sheriff jail

Coweta County Correctional Institution (CCI), also called Coweta County Prison, is a county-operated, GDC-regulated adult men's prison at 101 Selt Road, Newnan, GA 30263. The current public lines are 770-254-3723 and 770-254-3728; the Counselor's Office is 770-254-3720.

Coweta County says the institution houses state offenders under an annual GDC contract and some local misdemeanor or work-release-center cases. GDC calls it medium security for adult male felons. A state-offender locator, parole process or release card therefore applies only when the person's own record shows that authority.

Youth, municipal, federal, immigration, transitional, contract and closed facilities are separate identities. The county page currently says 216 beds, GDC lists capacity 210, and the January 2025 PREA audit lists designed capacity 280. Those dated measures conflict and do not prove today's population.

Confirm the record and sentence authority

For a person serving a Georgia state sentence, search the official GDC locator by exact name, GDC ID or case number. Save the displayed name, GDC ID, facility, sentence information and movement status. The service warns that web data should be verified before relying on it; call GDC at 404-656-4661 when the record is missing or unclear.

If no result appears, remove extra search fields, try name variants, confirm the booking county and ask Coweta CCI at 770-254-3723 whether the person is at Selt Road and whether the sentence is state or local. Do not switch to the Sheriff roster merely because the prison search is empty. County misdemeanor cases and WRC policy cases may require the facility, sentencing court and counselor rather than a state-only screen.

PART 02

Arrange a visit

Local approval, screening, schedule conflicts and remote-video limits.

Use the current local schedule—but confirm the portal conflict

Coweta publishes in-person visiting on Saturday, Sunday and county holidays, 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., for approved immediate-family visitors. The Counselor's Office handles approvals with the Warden's concurrence; call 770-254-3720, Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., before mailing an application or traveling.

The current GDC visit page separately says visits must be requested through its online portal from 5:00 a.m. Monday through 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, last no more than 2 hours, and allow up to 4 approved visitors together. Coweta's local page does not mention that portal or publish an ordinary duration/frequency. Treat this as an unresolved applicability conflict: get approval, ask the Counselor's Office whether portal scheduling is required for Coweta CCI that week, and save the confirmation.

Sources: Coweta County: Prison · Coweta County: Prison FAQs · GDC: Visit an Inmate · GDC SOP 227.05: Visitation of Offenders

Prepare every visitor for screening

The local rule requires picture ID, a fingerprint scan at the front gate and passage through metal detectors. A visitor who cannot clear screening will not enter. Avoid jewelry or clothing with substantial metal and be ready to return prohibited items to the vehicle.

Local dress rules require shoes for everyone who can walk or stand; shirts and full-length trousers for male visitors; and trousers or a dress/skirt no more than 2 inches above the knee for female visitors. Thin straps, halters, exposed midriff, sheer material and suggestive clothing are barred. Children age 12 and younger may wear shorts.

The county links a Significant Other Questionnaire that requests relationship details, Social Security number, date of birth, address history and a driver's-license copy. Because the form is specifically for a significant other, do not assume it replaces every family-member form. Confirm minor consent/ID, birth or guardianship documents, infant items, lockers, medical devices, criminal-history/probation/parole exceptions, late arrival and long-distance/special visits with the Counselor's Office.

Do not buy a video visit until Coweta confirms availability

GDC's orientation handbook discusses GOAL/JPay kiosk video visits and the statewide money page lists a generic $3.95 for 30 minutes JPay video price. Neither source proves that Coweta CCI currently enables family video visits, which platform it uses, or that this statewide price controls here.

  1. Call 770-254-3720 and ask whether remote family video is active for the person's housing assignment.
  2. If active, get the exact provider, visitor approval requirement, booking window, price, duration and cancellation rule.
  3. Before paying, test the browser, camera, microphone, speakers and connection; save the confirmation number.
  4. For a failed session, record time, error and screenshots and open a provider case. Do not promise a credit until the provider or facility confirms it.

PART 03

Stay connected

Calls, scanned mail, publications, packages and money.

Confirm Securus before funding a call account

GDC's current statewide page names Securus Technologies and support at 800-844-6591. It lists prepaid collect, direct bill and offender debit; $0.08 per minute for local and long-distance calls before taxes/regulatory fees; a 25-minute maximum; approved-number restrictions; and no forwarding or three-way calls.

The Coweta CCI page does not independently identify its current provider or local calling schedule. Before depositing, call 770-254-3723, give the person's name and ID, and confirm that Securus serves that housing assignment and whether a local county sentence changes account setup. If calls fail, check blocks, billing, approved-number status and call-forwarding features with the provider, then document the issue for the counselor. No current local refund or transfer-balance rule was found.

Use the scanned personal-mail address

Send ordinary letters, postcards and greeting cards to the county's current scan service:

SCH - Coweta County Corrections
Offender's Name - County ID Number
P.O. Box 2040
Pinellas Park, FL 33781

Print the exact name and County ID on the outside. Regular postal mail is scanned for viewing on the person's tablet. Do not send legal mail, court documents, bank statements, packages, publications or approved money orders to the scan address; the county says those continue directly to the facility.

Before sending a direct item, call the Counselor's Office for the current format and department. The county page identifies 101 Selt Road, Newnan, GA 30263 but does not publish a complete legal-mail envelope format, privileged-mail markings, photo/enclosure limits, rejection notice, appeal or original-item retention schedule.

Sources: Coweta County: Prison FAQs · Coweta County: Prison · GDC: Offender Orientation Handbook

Get approval before books, photos or a package

Coweta says packages and publications go directly to the facility and that anything given to an offender requires prior Warden approval. The statewide Union Supply page expressly lists state prisons, integrated treatment facilities and probation detention centers; it does not establish participation by this county correctional institution.

Before ordering a book, photo product or package, call 770-254-3720 for the current approved vendor, content and binding rules, possession limits, delivery address, order window and rejection process. Do not mail a personal package or assume Union Supply eligibility. The GDC handbook's general publication restrictions are useful questions, not proof of Coweta-specific limits.

Sources: Coweta County: Prison FAQs · GDC: Sending Packages to Offenders · GDC: Offender Orientation Handbook · Coweta County: Prison

Separate approved money orders from statewide options

The local mail rule confirms that an approved money order may be sent directly to the facility, to the attention of the Office Manager. The county does not publish the payee, memo fields, sender eligibility, cap, hold, fee, commissary schedule, indigent supplies or release/transfer balance process.

GDC separately offers a voucher/money order, JPay online/phone and MoneyGram for people currently in a GDC facility, and requires the sender to be on the approved visitor list. Because Coweta houses both state and county offenders, confirm the person's sentence authority and accepted method with the Office Manager at 770-254-3723 before paying. Never hand cash or goods to the person; Coweta warns that direct delivery without approval is prohibited.

PART 04

Protect health and rights

Medical messages, mental health, grievance, access and PREA.

Send health information through a confirmed secure route

GDC reports medical, dental, mental-health, hearing, mobility and vision screening during reception, but Coweta publishes no family clinical extension, medication-drop procedure, glasses/device process, medical-release form or after-hours clinical line. The 2025 PREA audit documented an on-site health administrator at the time of that audit; it does not prove a current named contact.

For an urgent health or safety concern, call Coweta CCI at 770-254-3723, ask staff to route a message to current health services and record the date, time, staff role and facts supplied. Use 404-656-4661 or the GDC Ombudsman at 478-992-5358 after a documented local attempt. Do not put diagnoses, Social Security numbers or financial records in GDC's unsecured web form. Privacy law may limit what staff can disclose without authorization.

Distinguish an in-prison concern from a community crisis

For immediate danger inside the prison, call 770-254-3723 and state that the message concerns urgent mental-health or suicide safety. Give the exact name and ID, housing if known, observed statements or behavior, last contact and your callback number. Ask that the message be documented and routed to current clinical staff.

Georgia 988 is a community crisis line; it cannot access a prison chart or order prison treatment. Use it for the caller's own crisis support or post-release planning, not as a substitute for notifying Coweta CCI. The public sources do not disclose Coweta's family notification, hospital transfer or discharge-medication process.

Sources: Coweta County: Prison · GDC: Health Services · Georgia DBHDD: 988 in Georgia · GDC: Ombudsman and Inmate Affairs Office

Use the offender grievance path, then document family escalation

GDC SOP 227.02 says a covered offender uses the kiosk/tablet or a paper form when electronic access is unavailable. A grievance normally raises 1 issue and is filed within 10 calendar days, subject to good cause. The Warden normally has 40 calendar days with one 10-day extension; an appeal goes to Central Office. Emergency, serious injury, security/life-safety and ADA matters do not count toward the normal 2-active-grievance limit.

Coweta CCI's public page does not independently publish its current grievance coordinator, paper-drop location or confirmation that every locally sentenced resident uses the same electronic path. The incarcerated person should ask the counselor for the current Coweta process and keep receipts/reference numbers. Family cannot file in the person's place, but can document a local attempt and contact GDC Grievance and Family Services at 404-656-4661. PREA reports use the separate safety routes below.

Sources: GDC SOP 227.02: Statewide Grievance Procedure · GDC: Grievance and Family Services · Coweta County: Prison

Request disability or language access early

For a visitor accommodation, call the Counselor's Office at 770-254-3720 before scheduling and ask for the entrance, screening or communication modification in writing if possible. The public Coweta page does not name a local visitor ADA coordinator or confirm the continuous accessible route from parking to the visit room.

For the incarcerated person, GDC SOP 103.63 provides a written accommodation request to the facility ADA coordinator, a verbal request through the counselor when writing is not possible, a decision process and a 7-calendar-day appeal window after denial. GDC's central ADA line is 478-993-4737. GDC SOP 103.67 provides no-cost language help and says family, children, friends and untrained volunteers are not default interpreters. The 2025 facility audit documents Language Line use at Coweta CCI.

Report sexual abuse without using an ordinary grievance

Coweta CCI states zero tolerance. A family member may report to the facility at 770-254-3723, the GDC Ombudsman at 478-992-5358, by email to PREA.report@gdc.ga.gov, or by writing the State Board of Pardons and Paroles, Office of Victim Services, 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SE, Balcony Level, East Tower, Atlanta, GA 30334.

The January 2025 facility audit confirms third-party reporting, an internal anonymous *7732 hotline, daily-reviewed anonymous reporting sites, language assistance, outside support through West Georgia Rape Crisis Center and retaliation monitoring for at least 90 days when applicable. GDC criminal investigators handle apparent criminal conduct. For immediate danger, call the facility or emergency services; do not wait for an ordinary grievance response.

PART 05

Plan legal and release steps

Counsel, sentence authority, programs, property and reentry.

Parole and release depend on the sentence type

Coweta's own FAQ separates authority: state offenders receive release through the State Board of Pardons and Paroles; county offenders receive release dates from the sentencing judge or Warden. Do not apply the state TPM screen to every person at Selt Road.

For a parole-eligible state sentence, the official TPM lookup may show a tentative month. A TPM is not a final release date and can change. Confirm the GDC record, conditions and release plan with the person's counselor. For a local misdemeanor/WRC case, use the sentencing court record and facility counselor. The current public sources do not state the Coweta release door, time window, delay-notification process, pickup rule or whether a Georgia Release Card applies to every sentence type.

Sources: Coweta County: Prison FAQs · Georgia Parole Board: The Parole Process · Georgia Parole Board: Inmate TPM Lookup · Georgia Parole Board: Frequently Asked Questions · GDC: Find an Offender

Verify current eligibility, not just the catalog

GDC currently lists GED, Alcoholics Anonymous, Motivation for Change, general recreation, worship services, Bible study and choir. It also lists county work details in roads, buildings, parks, fleet, animal care, signs and related maintenance. Coweta says only healthy, work-capable people are assigned here.

West Georgia Technical College reported 2026 Coweta CCI graduates and entrepreneurship trainees, confirming active education beyond the older facility catalog. Program presence does not establish that a particular person is eligible or that a class has space. Ask the counselor which programs are active, sentence-type limits, prerequisites, waiting list, completion record and whether participation affects release planning.

Prepare property, money and medication before discharge

No current public Coweta source gives family property pickup, authorization, retention, release-exit or discharge-clothing rules. Before a known release, have the incarcerated person ask the counselor to document:

  • release authority and expected date—not a guaranteed hour;
  • property inventory and any third-party pickup form;
  • remaining trust funds and whether payout is a money order, local instrument or Georgia Release Card;
  • identification, court and supervision papers;
  • medication, prescription and medical-device continuity; and
  • the pickup point and a backup transportation plan.

Family should call 770-254-3723 before leaving home. A parole hold, court change, transport delay or unresolved local authority can change the actual exit.

Get to Selt Road

Visitor arrival, demand-response transit and call-ahead local stops.

Use Selt Road and confirm the visitor gate

The verified destination is 101 Selt Road, Newnan, GA 30263. GDC's current directions approach via SR-34 Bypass, Hospital Road and Selt Road. Call 770-254-3720 before travel to confirm the correct visitor gate, check-in time, designated lot, overflow/towing rules, rideshare drop-off, accessible parking and the path to screening.

GDC's current general visit page says visitors park in a designated area and remain in the vehicle until staff display their number, but Coweta's local page does not confirm that vehicle-number sequence. Do not assume the general sequence controls locally. No official source identifies a garage, paid lot, after-hours waiting area, release exit or continuous accessible route at this facility.

Reserve Coweta Connect and verify the final handoff

Coweta Connect is curb-to-curb demand response within Coweta County—not a fixed-route bus. Call 770-683-RIDE (7433) by noon for next-day service. The posted fare is $3 one way; general hours are Monday–Friday, excluding holidays, usually 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.. Trips are first-come, first-served and depend on availability.

Ask dispatch whether it will accept 101 Selt Road as the drop-off and pickup point, where the vehicle can safely meet, and whether the return ride can be reserved. Wheelchair-accessible service is available; request boarding help when scheduling. Drivers do not enter buildings. Seven calendar dates checked from review: Tuesday Sept. 29, Wednesday Sept. 30, Thursday Oct. 1, Friday Oct. 2 and Monday Oct. 5, 2026 follow the published weekday rule; Saturday Oct. 3 and Sunday Oct. 4 do not. These are policy dates, not reservations or live-arrival promises.

Use local stops as call-ahead options

The official tourism directory lists Best Western - Shenandoah, 620 GA-34 E., Newnan, GA 30265, 770-304-9700, and Redneck Gourmet, 11 N. Court Square, Newnan, GA 30263, 770-251-0092. Confirm hours, price, availability and accessibility directly. Jail411 does not promise a room, meal, shuttle, walking route or prison access.

One Roof Outreach at 255 Temple Avenue is a community call-ahead resource for food, clothing and crisis assistance. These locations are not approved prison waiting areas and no source confirms that any is walkable from Selt Road.

Finding someone held here

Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
