Make sure you have the right facility
Clayton County Prison, also listed by GDC as Clayton County Correctional Institution, is at 11420 S.L.R. Boulevard, Lovejoy, GA 30250. It is run by the Clayton County Corrections Department and houses State of Georgia convicted adult male offenders under GDC authority.
It is not the Clayton County Sheriff's jail at 9157 Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro, the Clayton Transitional Center in Forest Park, the nearby Robert A. Deyton federal-contract facility, or a youth facility.
Use P.O. Box 309, Lovejoy, GA 30250 for facility mail. Do not assume the street address accepts mail or deliveries.

Find a person and troubleshoot the GDC lookup
Use the GDC Find an Offender search for a person at this prison. The Sheriff's Jail Docket is for the separate Jonesboro detention facility.
If no result appears, GDC says to try only the first four letters of the last name and choose all offenders, not only active offenders. First Offender Act records for people who completed their sentences are not published. Cookies must be enabled if the search keeps returning to the disclaimer page; some photos are unavailable.
GDC does not guarantee the online record is complete and does not disclose transfer dates. Verify important facts with Inmate Records and Information, P.O. Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029, or call GDC.

Separate the court record from custody status
Use GDC’s Find an Offender search for the current GDC location and public custody information. It accepts name/description, GDC ID, or case number. GDC warns that the online information is not warranted; verify important facts through GDC Inmate Records and Information, P.O. Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029, or 404-656-4661. First Offender Act records completed under that law are not published.
For the sentence itself, obtain the sentencing order and docket from the clerk in the county that sentenced the person. Clayton Superior Court handles felony cases; its clerk is at 9151 Tara Boulevard, Room 1CL25, Jonesboro, GA 30236-4912, 770-477-3395. The official Court Case Inquiry says entries may take up to 72 hours to appear and are not a filing channel. Certified or regular Clayton court records can be ordered through eCertification; assistance: 770-477-4565.
Use the court’s certified order for what the judge imposed; use GDC for the agency’s custody status and time computation; use the Parole Board for parole status. If those disagree, do not choose one informally—ask counsel and the responsible record custodian to reconcile them.

Approval, local rules, phone and video.
Apply, schedule, and confirm a visit
Every visitor, including a child, must submit the GDC visitation application. Mail the application and supporting documents to the facility; GDC says email applications are not accepted. Supporting documents may include photo ID, marriage license, or birth certificate, and consent forms must be notarized.
The county's posted normal hours are Saturday, Sunday, and county holidays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Entry pauses from 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM for count. The county says visits may last up to four hours when conditions permit, but capacity may stop new entry and early arrivals may be asked to leave after at least one hour.
GDC's current statewide page says visits must be requested through its online portal after approval and allows up to four approved visitors at one time for no more than two hours. Because that conflicts with the county page, call before travel and follow the confirmation issued for the specific date.

IDs, minors, clothing, and what to bring
The county requires a valid picture ID at every visit for visitors age 16 and older. The older posted GDC policy lists accepted government photo IDs, including a driver's license/state photo ID, U.S. or foreign passport, military ID, permanent resident card, and certain federal or tribal IDs; a weapons permit and temporary driver's license are not accepted.
Minors must remain under the adult's immediate control. GDC policy says visitors under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult who is also on the approved list. Special restrictions apply when the offender has a sexual-offense conviction or a court order limits contact with a minor.
Visitors are searched and may refuse only by not entering. The county allows no more than $20.00 in $1.00 bills or coins for vending; secure handbags and diaper bags in the vehicle or lobby locker. Do not bring food, drinks, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, phones, smartwatches, or other wireless devices. Wear non-revealing clothing; GDC's posted guidance bars tank tops, mesh/see-through clothing, sleeveless T-shirts, exposed chest/shoulders/stomach, skirts more than 2 inches above the knee, stretch pants, and adult shorts. Only children may wear shorts.

Special visits and attorney visits
An offender may request a special visit. The Warden/designee decides case by case; the posted GDC policy normally requires at least 48 hours' notice but allows urgent exceptions. Examples include long-distance family, military leave, an assisting driver, clergy, or a death, birth, marriage, or extreme illness. Special visits are limited to two visitors at one time under that policy.
Attorneys submit the Attorney Visitation Request with a State Bar card and acceptable photo ID. The posted policy calls for an appointment through the Warden's office at least 24 hours in advance except a bona fide emergency. Staff maintain security while allowing private, uncensored conversation. Paralegals or investigators require prior arrangement and an attorney letter dated no more than one week earlier.

Arrange legal access through the correct channel
For an in-person attorney visit, a dated statewide GDC visitation policy (effective 2018) says the attorney submits the Attorney Visitation Request, state bar card, and photo ID. It calls for prior approval and an appointment through the warden/superintendent’s office at least 24 hours in advance except in a bona fide emergency. It also provides for private, uncensored conversation. Paralegals, investigators, and legal assistants require advance arrangement and a signed attorney letter dated no more than 1 week before each visit. Because this is a dated statewide policy, counsel should call Clayton County Prison at 770-473-5777 to confirm the current Lovejoy process.
For a phone or video legal conference, GDC policy 222.14 (effective 2023) directs counsel to email the Legal Conference Request Form, bar card, and approved photo ID to Legalconference.request@gdc.ga.gov at least 3 business days before the requested date. The policy describes these conferences as confidential and generally 30 minutes unless more time is requested in advance. A transfer may require rescheduling. Do not combine this 3-business-day remote process with the dated 24-hour in-person process.
For an active Clayton felony case, the current Clayton Circuit Public Defender listing is at 6525 Professional Place, Riverdale, GA 30274, 678-479-5036, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Representation and post-conviction help depend on eligibility and case posture.

Phone calls, account setup, and failed-call help
The facility-specific county page names ICSolutions. The incarcerated person may submit up to 10 approved numbers. Posted call hours are Monday-Friday 4:30 PM to 9:45 PM and weekends/holidays 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM; the county says calls are limited to 30 minutes per day on weekdays and 40 minutes on weekends.
Create or fund a prepaid account through ICSolutions online or by phone. The provider says customer care is available 24/7. Do not rely on generic GDC/Securus rates or limits for this facility: the state page conflicts with the county's specific provider page, and no current facility-specific rate sheet was found.
If calls do not arrive, add the facility's ICSolutions calling number and 1-888-506-8407 to contacts, then ask the phone carrier to remove spam/robocall blocks. For billing, login, payment, or account problems, use ICSolutions customer care. If the number is not on the approved list or the facility cannot be selected, ask the incarcerated person to check the list and call the prison.

Video visits are not confirmed
No official Clayton County or GDC page found confirms that Clayton County Prison offers onsite or remote video visits, a video schedule, or a video price.

Mail, books and money
Addresses, products and system conflicts.
Personal mail and privileged/legal mail
Address personal mail to the person's full name and GDC ID at Clayton County Prison, P.O. Box 309, Lovejoy, GA 30250. GDC confirms the name and GDC number must be on the envelope. The official sources found do not publish a separate legal-mail address, local page limit, envelope size, or list of allowed cards/enclosures.
The GDC handbook says incoming and outgoing mail may be inspected. Privileged mail includes courts, government officials/agencies, and an attorney of record or an attorney with whom the person is trying to form an attorney-client relationship. Proper privileged mail may be externally screened; if opened because of suspected contraband or authenticity, it is to be opened in the incarcerated person's presence. The handbook warns that formal rules control if they conflict with the handbook.
Before sending original legal documents, unusual enclosures, or time-sensitive materials, confirm the current procedure with the prison.

Books, photos, and packages
Posted GDC property policy says books, magazines, and newspapers must come directly from a publisher or dealer, require prior approval, and are limited in possession to eight total publications unless the Warden approves an exception.
The same posted policy allows up to 20 loose tangible photographs plus 80 more in an album. Photos may not show nudity, sexually provocative material, drugs/alcohol, weapons, or gang imagery. Hollow-backed Polaroid-style photos may not be newly received.
No official source found confirms that Clayton County Prison participates in GDC's generic Union Supply package program or publishes a local package window, vendor, price, or weight limit. Call before ordering books or any package; do not mail a personal package without facility confirmation.

Send money and avoid the generic GDC conflict
The county's facility-specific rule says the sender must be on the approved visitation list and funds may only be mailed by money order or cashier's check. Make it payable to the incarcerated person and include the GDC ID. Put the person's name, GDC ID, dorm number, prison mailing address, and the sender's complete return address on the envelope.
Mail to Clayton County Prison, P.O. Box 309, Lovejoy, GA 30250. Cash, personal checks, and unidentified money orders are returned.
Generic GDC pages advertise JPay and MoneyGram, but they do not resolve county-institution applicability and conflict with the county's 'only' language. Call before using those methods. No official local commissary vendor, catalog, ordering schedule, spending cap, or refund rule was found.

Family communication about medical or mental-health concerns
For an urgent health or safety concern, call the prison and clearly state that it is urgent. The official sources do not publish a family medical extension, after-hours clinical line, hospital notification procedure, or medical-release form. Staff may be unable to disclose protected health information without authorization.
GDC asks families to encourage the incarcerated person to use the grievance process and to contact staff in this order: counselor, chief counselor, Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment, Warden, Regional Director, then Ombudsman staff. Keep dates, symptoms reported to you, request numbers, and names of offices contacted.
Do not put medical details in GDC's general web form; GDC says the form is not secure for medical information. Call instead.

Grievances and unresolved concerns
The posted GDC procedure has two steps: original grievance, then Central Office appeal. An original grievance normally covers one issue and is filed by kiosk/tablet or paper within 10 calendar days of when the person knew or should have known the facts; late filing may be accepted for good cause. Paper forms are hand-delivered to a counselor for a receipt.
The Warden normally has 40 calendar days to respond, with one 10-day extension after notice. A Central Office appeal is normally due within 7 calendar days of the response or after the response time expires; the central decision period is 120 calendar days.
An emergency grievance goes immediately to the Duty Officer. If accepted as an emergency, protective action is immediate, an initial response is due within 48 hours, and a written response within 5 calendar days. Outside family members cannot file the ordinary offender grievance; they can support documentation and call the facility or Ombudsman.

Disability accommodations and language access
For a visitor accommodation, call the prison before the visit; no public local visitor-accommodation form or named local coordinator was found. For an incarcerated person's accommodation, use the facility ADA request process. The posted policy says the final facility decision is due within 25 days of receipt; an appeal is due within 7 calendar days of the response to the Commissioner's Designee, GDC, P.O. Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029.
GDC publishes a central ADA line. ADA grievances receive effective communication support and do not count toward the normal two-active-grievance limit.
GDC policy provides language assistance at no cost, Spanish translations for core documents, and interpretation in person, by phone, or by video. Family, children, friends, and untrained volunteers should not be used as interpreters unless specifically authorized. The 2025 audit says this facility uses Language Line services.

Report sexual abuse or harassment (PREA)
Clayton County Prison states zero tolerance for sexual abuse and harassment. A report may be made by the incarcerated person, a family member, or another third party and may be anonymous. Report to any facility staff member, by written note, through a counselor, through the confidential offender hotline, through the Ombudsman, or in writing to the State Board of Pardons and Paroles Office of Victim Services.
The facility page says the incarcerated-person PREA hotline is 888-992-7849. The county page also lists the Ombudsman at 478-992-5358 and the prison main line for the PREA Compliance Manager. The 2025 audit confirms verbal, written, anonymous, and third-party reports are accepted and retaliation is prohibited.
A PREA allegation sent through the grievance system is routed immediately to investigation rather than handled as an ordinary grievance; no informal resolution is required. For an immediate threat, call the prison and say the person may be in immediate danger.

Use the right remedy and preserve deadlines
General grievances. The statewide grievance policy is dated (effective 2019) but remains linked on GDC’s current policy page. It covers a condition, policy, or action personally affecting the offender. The original grievance is generally due within 10 calendar days after the person knew or should have known of the issue; good-cause waiver may apply. The warden response period is 40 calendar days, with one written 10-day extension. A Central Office appeal is generally due within 7 calendar days after the response, and the policy gives Central Office 120 days. Emergency grievances require immediate referral/protection review, an initial response within 48 hours, and written response within 5 calendar days. Language, literacy, and disability assistance must be available; retaliation is prohibited.
Parole decisions, sentences, court decisions, disciplinary reports, administrative segregation, transfers, and many assignments use other processes and are listed as non-grievable. A disciplinary case must use the disciplinary appeal, not the ordinary grievance.
Discipline. The dated discipline policy (effective 2017) provides a first appeal on Attachment 7 within 15 calendar days after receipt/adjudication, with a decision generally within 30 calendar days. The public material reviewed did not yield a safely complete current second-appeal instruction; use the current form and decision notice, and ask the counselor or counsel immediately.
PREA/sexual abuse or harassment. Tell any staff member or medical staff, use the prison’s reporting channels, or make a third-party/anonymous report. Current GDC reporting lists 888-992-7849; calls are recorded and messages are checked Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The GDC Ombudsman/Inmate Affairs number is 478-992-5358. Do not promise confidentiality: the Clayton facility page calls the hotline confidential, but current GDC says calls are recorded. All allegations are to be investigated. For immediate outside danger, call 911.
Families can call GDC Grievance and Family Services at 404-656-4661, but a family call does not substitute for the incarcerated person’s timely grievance or disciplinary appeal.

Records, transfers, parole and release
Responsible records and date limits.
Verify location; do not expect a transfer date
GDC says transfer dates are not provided for security reasons. Check Find an Offender, then call 404-656-4661 if clarification is needed. A person who wants a move closer to family must raise it with the facility counselor; this is a request, not a family entitlement or guaranteed outcome. The dated grievance policy says transfers themselves are not grievable.
Do not travel, mail time-sensitive legal material, or arrange pickup based only on a past location. Confirm the current location and local procedure first. Counsel using the legal-conference process should promptly report or verify a transfer because scheduling may move with the person.

Treat a TPM as a review month, not a release date
The Parole Board’s TPM lookup is the official status tool. A Tentative Parole Month is not a final release decision; it may depend on good conduct or program completion and can be postponed or canceled after misconduct. The Board says parole-eligible state offenders are considered automatically and do not need an application, but eligibility has major statutory exceptions. Do not calculate eligibility from a generic “one-third” rule—verify the exact conviction and sentence with counsel and the Board. The Parole/Corrections Call Center is 404-656-4661.
After release, follow the reporting instructions on the release papers. For supervision in Clayton County, the DCS Morrow Field Office serves the Clayton Circuit: 1335 Citizens Parkway, Suite A, Morrow, GA 30260, 770-960-2092, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. DCS headquarters is 678-783-4337. Do not assume the Morrow office or a particular officer is assigned until the release paperwork or DCS confirms it.

Call before every release pickup
No current official Lovejoy page was found that publishes the release entrance, pickup window, required driver ID, property handoff, medication handoff, or after-hours procedure. Call 770-473-5777 and ask for the release/records staff or shift supervisor. Ask the same day: whether the person is physically there; where and when the pickup may occur; what ID is required; whether a hold or detainer remains; how property, medication, and funds will be delivered; and whether supervision reporting is due immediately. Staff may limit what they disclose. Do not use Sheriff-jail release instructions for this prison.
If GDC issues a Georgia Release Card, GDC’s current information page directs activation at 866-777-5729 using the 16-digit card number, expiration date, security code, and date of birth. “If issued” matters; the source does not promise a card or balance to every person.
A TPM, court date, or estimate is not a guaranteed pickup date. Keep a backup driver and a no-contact plan. Do not leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle on county property.

Start inside; verify every community program
Clayton County Prison publishes a 12-session reentry class covering identification, housing, budgeting, applications/résumés, transportation, and supervision, plus case management. Ask the counselor about current enrollment and release planning; publication does not guarantee a seat or completion date. GDC’s reentry policy index includes pre/post-release planning and a checklist addressing ID, Social Security, driver services, employment, and housing.
For community support:
- DCS community-resource coordinators and the official reentry-resource directory can help identify housing, employment, mentoring, and other providers; listing is not eligibility or placement.
- If under qualifying DCS supervision, Reentry Partnership Housing may provide short-term housing for up to 6 months through approved providers; eligibility and availability must be verified.
- United Way 211: dial 211 in metro Atlanta or 404-614-1000 outside metro Atlanta for food, clothing, transportation, shelter, and related referrals.

- Atlanta Legal Aid Clayton office: civil matters such as housing and public benefits, 1590 Adamson Parkway, Suite 360, Morrow, GA 30260, 404-669-0233. It is not a criminal-defense office.

Register for release notice; transfers are different
Georgia Office of Victim Services (GOVS) operates the Victim Information Program at 800-593-9474. The automated line provides custody, parole eligibility/status, and maximum or scheduled release information using a 6-digit case/EF number or GDC ID. Registered victims receive release notifications. The current FAQ says movement between GDC institutions does not generate a victim notification.
For registration, unwanted contact, or safety planning, call GOVS at 404-651-6668 or 800-593-9474. A statutory 72-hour period described by GOVS concerns notice after a final parole decision; it is not a promise of notice 72 hours before every release. If a protective/no-contact order may be violated, contact local law enforcement and counsel; do not negotiate direct pickup or housing contact. In immediate danger, call 911.

A safe sequence for families
- Identify the system. Use GDC for Clayton County Prison; use the Sheriff for the jail. Confirm name, date of birth, GDC ID, case number, sentencing county, and current location.
- Build one record. Keep a dated call log, names/titles, screenshots, receipts, court orders, grievance/appeal copies, and release papers. Preserve the shortest deadline first.
- Protect private information. Use official portals, counsel, or mail for sensitive records. GDC says its general contact form is not secure.
- Confirm before travel. Call 770-473-5777 the same day for location, admission/pickup instructions, ID, timing, and property/medication questions. A normal social-visit page currently lists Saturday, Sunday, and county holidays, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., but a legal visit or release pickup follows a different process.
- Prepare for release without assuming it. Bring only approved items, keep a backup driver, charged phone, weather-appropriate clothing, food/water, and a written plan for medication, housing, transportation, ID, and supervision reporting. Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle on county property.
- Respect safety orders. A victim or protected person should not coordinate direct pickup, housing, or contact. Use GOVS at 800-593-9474 or 404-651-6668, counsel, and local law enforcement; call 911 for immediate danger.
- Do not buy promises. A TPM is not a release date, transfer is not guaranteed, program listing is not admission, and no one should demand payment to “secure parole.” Verify every claim through the responsible agency.

Call 770-473-5777 the same day to confirm the visit is proceeding, the person remains there and the current visitor gate. Official directions are vehicle directions, not a pedestrian route.

Parking, entrance, drop-off and accessibility
Official rules establish that a parking lot, visitor vehicles and lobby lockers exist. They do not publish designated spaces, lot hours or fees, the exterior visitor door, a taxi/rideshare point or a continuous accessible path.
Call 770-473-5777 for the current route and 478-993-4737 for GDC ADA concerns. Ask specifically about vehicle unloading, mobility devices, the path to screening, seating and medical items.

Do not turn a map pin into a walk
The official GTFS has no stop named S.L.R., Clayton County Prison or Correctional Institution. No official pedestrian connection from Hastings Bridge/Glebe to the prison gate was verified.
Sunday is a prison visiting day but Route 800 does not run Sunday. Saturday transit exists, but the final segment remains unverified. Arrange a vehicle to the street address unless the prison or MARTA supplies a current specific alternative.

Do not confuse the jail, courts and nearby facilities
Clayton County Jail and Harold R. Banke Justice Center are in Jonesboro; Martha K. Glaze RYDC and Robert A. Deyton are on the Hastings Bridge corridor; Clayton Transitional Center is in Forest Park. None shares Lovejoy’s rules.
Confirm the custodian and current location. Never choose a destination from the words Clayton, Lovejoy, Justice Center or detention alone.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
