Practical start here instructions for the active adult jail.
Use the active Main Street jail
The adult Wayne County Sheriff jail is at 200 E Main Street, Richmond, IN 47374. The route calls it Wayne County Correctional Center, while current Sheriff pages use Wayne County Jail and Wayne County Detention Center. Use 765-973-9397 for jail information; 765-973-9393 is the Sheriff's general office line.

Do not infer capacity or security level
Current official pages do not publish an operational bed capacity, live population or security-level label. The archived generic record's “maximum” label is not a current Sheriff classification. Confirm housing and restrictions for the individual booking rather than treating an old directory field as policy.

Start with the Sheriff-linked roster
Use the inmate search linked by the current Sheriff site. Search spelling variants and save the booked name, booking number, charges, bond type/amount and court fields shown. Verify a time-sensitive result at 765-973-9397 before travel, payment or mail.
Sources: Wayne County Sheriff's Office home · Sheriff current inmate search · Sheriff contact directory
No result does not prove release
Try full and shortened names, the Indiana jail portal, VINE and MyCase, then call 765-973-9397. A missing result can reflect spelling, booking delay, release, hospital care, youth handling, another county or transfer. Use IDOC, BOP and ICE only for their separate custody systems.

Treat the county lookup as a dated fallback
The county still hosts a first/last-name inmate search marked revised April 4, 2016. Prefer the roster linked by the current Sheriff site, and use the older page only as a fallback. Neither page replaces telephone confirmation for a release or transfer.

Match each task to the responsible office
Call jail information at 765-973-9397 for custody, housing, visiting and release operations; use 765-973-9393 for the Sheriff's general office. The Clerk at 765-973-9220 handles court records, and the Public Defender office listing is 765-973-9263. Call 911 for immediate danger outside the jail.

Visits and communication
Practical visits and communication instructions for the active adult jail.
Choose onsite or remote video
The Sheriff publishes onsite and offsite video visits every day. Remote visits go through CPC at cpcjail.com. The public page does not establish face-to-face family visiting, so do not arrive expecting physical contact.
Sources: Sheriff visitation rules · Combined Public Communications
Use the published daily windows carefully
The published windows are 7:00 a.m.–12:45 p.m., 1:30–5:45 p.m. and 6:30–10:45 p.m. The page also lists 11:30 p.m.–2:30 a.m. as “lock down visitation only”; confirm what that restricted label means before using it. Schedules can change with housing, discipline or operations.
Sources: Sheriff visitation rules · Sheriff contact directory
Plan for 15 minutes and housing limits
Each published video visit runs 15 minutes. General-population residents are allowed one onsite visit every six hours each day; housing-unit kiosk rules and current status still control. The page does not publish a fixed booking lead time, weekly cap for every classification or no-show rule.
Sources: Sheriff visitation rules
Bring listed ID and prepare for minors
Visitors 18 or older must present a driver's license or state identification card. Visitors 17 or younger must be signed in with first name, last name and date of birth; guardianship papers are required if the relationship is questioned, and the legal guardian must supervise constantly. The page does not publish passport, tribal ID or other alternate-ID acceptance.
Sources: Sheriff visitation rules
Count every person in the four-person limit
No more than four visitors may participate per onsite session, and every adult or child counts. Visitors may see more than one resident in a day and the same resident once every six hours, subject to the resident's status. Confirm whether the CPC remote party limit is the same before paying.
Sources: Sheriff visitation rules · Combined Public Communications
Prepare for search, dress and property limits
Onsite visitors are subject to search. The Sheriff bars weapons, food/drinks, baby car seats/strollers, bags, purses, phones/pagers, cameras and other unacceptable articles. Footwear is required; gang clothing, low-cut/revealing/provocative clothing and shorts, skirts or dresses shorter than mid-thigh can cause denial.
Sources: Sheriff visitation rules
Check victim and no-contact restrictions
Published denial grounds include appearing under the influence, being the known victim in the current case, a no-contact/restraining/protective order, or a known domestic-violence incident involving the resident within the prior six months. Safety, supervision, identification and conduct violations can also end or suspend access. Ask jail supervision before booking if any order or victim restriction may apply.
Sources: Sheriff visitation rules · Sheriff contact directory
Preserve the Sheriff's ambiguous rate wording
The Sheriff page displays the offsite charge as “$.39 cents per minute,” a unit conflict that could mean $0.39 per minute but is not safely normalized. Check the price shown by CPC at checkout before authorizing payment. Save the confirmation and receipt.
Sources: Sheriff visitation rules · Combined Public Communications
Reconnect once, then preserve evidence
If a visit disconnects accidentally, the Sheriff says the visitor can log back into the kiosk for the remainder. If that fails, save the resident name, date/time, device, error screen and receipt; contact CPC at 1-877-570-4268 and send approval or discipline questions to 765-973-9397. A local cancellation or refund rule is not published.
Sources: Sheriff visitation rules · Sheriff inmate phone page · Sheriff contact directory
Use CPC for voice calls
Combined Public Communications operates the inmate phone system. Calls are available from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.; phones are off from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. for lockdown/quiet time. Calls are collect unless the resident has money on the CPC PIN-debit account, which can fund calls including cell phones.
Sources: Sheriff inmate phone page · Sheriff inmate money page · Combined Public Communications
Do not share the resident PIN
The resident receives a phone PIN at admission. The Sheriff warns that sharing it lets another resident use the PIN-debit balance and that the jail is not responsible for those funds. Treat the PIN as private and report suspected misuse promptly to CPC and jail information.
Sources: Sheriff inmate phone page · Sheriff contact directory
Send blocks, repairs and refunds to CPC
Document the called number, date/time, exact error and charge. The Sheriff directs phone repairs, call blocks and money refunds to CPC at 1-877-570-4268. Housing restrictions and discipline remain jail questions at 765-973-9397.
Sources: Sheriff inmate phone page · Sheriff contact directory
Keep InmateCanteen messages separate from calls
The Sheriff says family/friends can send emails, picture emails and SMS messages through InmateCanteen. Availability, screening, delivery timing, image limits, pricing and refunds are not published locally. Do not treat an electronic message as confidential legal communication.
Sources: Sheriff inmate money page · Inmate Canteen
Mail, photos and packages
Practical mail, photos and packages instructions for the active adult jail.
Confirm personal mail before sending
No current Sheriff or county page reviewed publishes a personal-mail address, recipient identifier, return-address rule, page/photo limits or rejection process. Call 765-973-9397 and ask for the exact current format tied to the booking. Do not rely on third-party mail instructions or assume the street address accepts personal mail.
Sources: Sheriff contact directory · Sheriff Jail Division
Keep legal mail on a separately confirmed path
The reviewed official pages do not publish the privileged/legal-mail address, required marking, attorney verification, original-document handling or rejection appeal. Counsel should confirm the current legal-mail route directly with jail information at 765-973-9397 before sending time-sensitive papers. Electronic family messaging is not a privileged substitute.
Sources: Sheriff contact directory · Sheriff inmate money page
Do not infer publication or package rules
Current local official pages do not state whether photos, greeting cards, books, magazines, newspapers or personal packages are accepted, or whether a publisher/direct-vendor rule applies. Confirm every item with 765-973-9397 before ordering. InmateCanteen commissary purchases are a separate approved transaction path, not proof that mailed packages are allowed.

Money and commissary
Practical money and commissary instructions for the active adult jail.
Use the correct lobby kiosk or InmateCanteen
TurnKey inmate-account money can be deposited in the lobby 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or online at InmateCanteen. The Sheriff says the TurnKey kiosk accepts credit cards but does not issue a receipt; save a bank record and booking identifiers. TurnKey kiosk issues go to 1-715-386-5700.
Sources: Sheriff inmate money page · Inmate Canteen
Use the CPC kiosk only for phone PIN debit
The separate CPC lobby kiosk funds the resident's phone PIN-debit account 24/7 and does issue a transaction receipt. Keep that receipt; CPC kiosk problems go to 1-877-570-4268. Do not confuse phone funds with the TurnKey trust/commissary account or the bond kiosk.
Sources: Sheriff inmate money page · Sheriff inmate phone page · Sheriff bonding page
Order before the Tuesday cutoff
TurnKey processes commissary orders every Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. and sends them within 72 hours; jail staff ordinarily distribute them Friday or Saturday. Residents may edit orders on the housing-unit kiosk until processing, and family/friends may order through InmateCanteen. Availability depends on funds, housing and current inventory.
Sources: Sheriff commissary page · Inmate Canteen
Report missing or damaged items immediately
Missing or damaged commissary items must be reported to commissary staff before the resident returns to housing or leaves the distribution area. The Sheriff says TurnKey does not refund money; the stated remedy is replacement the following week. Family should preserve the order record but understand the resident must make the timely internal report.
Sources: Sheriff commissary page
Use the published indigent list threshold
A resident with less than $1.00 in the inmate account for one week or longer may order from a zero-cost indigent list. The public page does not identify each item, application step or appeal if indigent status is denied. Ask the resident to use the housing kiosk and grievance path for a disputed determination.

Health, safety and complaints
Practical health, safety and complaints instructions for the active adult jail.
Treat current clinical details as a bounded gap
Wayne County sought a two-year inmate-health contract beginning May 1, 2025 through April 30, 2027. A current local report names Quality Correctional Care, but the executed award and a family clinical contact were not located in reviewed official sources. For urgent custody concerns call 765-973-9397 and ask for the on-duty supervisor/medical staff; call 911 for an outside emergency.
Sources: 2025 Wayne County inmate health-services RFP · Local report on Wayne jail health provider and 2027 request · Sheriff contact directory
Give information without expecting protected details
Provide the booked name, booking number, medication, prescriber/pharmacy, dose, last dose, allergy and observable symptoms to jail information for routing. The jail may accept safety information without authorization but may be unable to disclose protected health details back. Do not bring medication, glasses or devices unless medical staff gives a specific delivery instruction.
Sources: Sheriff contact directory · Indiana county-jail medical-care standard · 2026 Wayne County correctional-officer posting
Use urgency, not a generic message queue
For immediate risk in custody, call 765-973-9397, state that it is an urgent mental-health or suicide concern, give the booked identity and facts, and request the on-duty supervisor and medical staff. For a community crisis after release, Centerstone's adult Stride Center at 816 Dillon Dr is open 24/7; 988 is the national crisis line. Outside services do not control jail treatment.
Sources: Sheriff contact directory · Centerstone Richmond Stride Center · Centerstone Richmond Dillon Drive
Ask for the local grievance policy in writing
No current public Wayne jail handbook or grievance schedule was located. The resident should request the local form or kiosk path, keep submission/response dates and appeal within the facility's stated deadline; family should ask 765-973-9397 which office handles a specific complaint. Do not apply IDOC prison deadlines to this county jail.
Sources: Sheriff contact directory · Indiana county-jail medical-care standard
Request jail access first; preserve the county route
Ask 765-973-9397 in advance for a visit, communication or custody accommodation and identify the functional need, not unnecessary diagnosis. The county's dated ADA notice lists Steve Higinbotham at 765-973-9297 for Title II inquiries and Kim Clauser at 765-973-9209 for Section 504; confirm current contacts before filing. No jail-specific accommodation appeal was published.
Sources: Sheriff contact directory · Wayne County ADA/Section 504 public notice
Escalate sexual-safety reports without inventing a hotline
No Wayne County jail-specific confidential or third-party PREA number was found on current public pages. For immediate danger call jail information at 765-973-9397 and request the on-duty supervisor; preserve dates, names and the exact report. The DOJ PREA page explains the national standard but is not a local reporting destination.

Courts, counsel and release
Practical courts, counsel and release instructions for the active adult jail.
Use MyCase and the Clerk for the case, not housing
Search MyCase for the cause number, court, charges, hearings and orders, then use the Clerk at 301 E Main Street, 765-973-9220, Monday–Friday 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. for record questions. Court hours do not establish jail visiting or release hours. Verify current custody separately at 765-973-9397.
Sources: Indiana MyCase · Wayne County Clerk of Courts · Wayne County court case search · Sheriff contact directory
Confirm appointed counsel through the court
The county directory lists the Public Defender office at 765-973-9263 and the Prosecutor at 765-973-9394. Ask the court or Clerk whether counsel has actually been appointed and for the current attorney contact; the office listing alone does not prove representation. Indiana Legal Services at 800-869-0212 is a separate civil legal-help path published by the Clerk.
Sources: Wayne County office directory · Wayne County Clerk of Courts · Wayne County Clerk legal-help page
Confirm bond before using the 24/7 lobby kiosk
Call 765-973-9397 or use the jail information window to confirm the amount, type, charges and holds. The Sheriff says bond money is accepted through the detention-center lobby kiosk 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but credit-card and remote bonds are not accepted. Ask the kiosk payment form, denominations, fees and receipt process before arriving.
Sources: Sheriff bonding page · Sheriff contact directory · Indiana MyCase
Payment does not remove every hold
A paid bond can still be followed by another county warrant, probation/parole hold, state/federal transfer, immigration action or a court condition. Ask jail information what holds remain and whether the release order is received before arranging pickup. The Sheriff promises release as soon as possible after payment but publishes no fixed completion time.
Sources: Sheriff bonding page · Sheriff contact directory · Indiana MyCase · Indiana VINE
Confirm property authorization and pickup
The 2026 corrections posting confirms staff return personal property during release, but current public pages do not publish third-party authorization, pickup hours, identification, storage deadline or unclaimed-property handling. Call 765-973-9397 before sending anyone. Do not assume the 24/7 bond kiosk means 24/7 property service.
Sources: 2026 Wayne County correctional-officer posting · Sheriff contact directory · Sheriff bonding page
Build a flexible release plan
Confirm the order, remaining holds and intended exit with 765-973-9397. The public sources do not identify a release door, routine time, family-notification process, medication supply, clothing help, trust-balance payout or delayed-pickup waiting area. Keep the driver reachable and do not promise curbside timing.
Sources: Sheriff contact directory · 2026 Wayne County correctional-officer posting
Recheck every service after a transfer
A transfer to another county, IDOC, BOP, ICE, hospital or youth placement changes the locator, visiting, phone, mail, money and release rules. Stop pending payments and confirm the receiving custodian first. Wayne County procedures do not travel with the person.

Arrival, transit and reentry
Practical arrival, transit and reentry instructions for the active adult jail.
Use the named courthouse parking leads cautiously
The Sheriff courthouse-security page says parking is on 4th Street and in the large lot west of the courthouse. The city also publishes a downtown public-parking map. Neither source assigns a particular space to jail visitors or confirms hours, overnight waiting, accessible unloading or the correct jail entrance; verify at 765-973-9397.
Sources: Sheriff courthouse security page · Richmond public parking resources · Sheriff contact directory
Treat Roseview as a route-planning lead
Roseview Transit runs a six-route request-stop system Monday–Friday, 6:15 a.m.–5:45 p.m., with no Saturday or Sunday service. Regular fare is $1.75; reduced student, senior or disabled fare is $1.50; children under 5 ride free. Call 765-983-7227 to confirm route, pickup side, return and accessibility for the travel date.
Sources: Richmond public transportation · Richmond public transportation routes
No jail stop or final walk was verified
The official route page says riders may wave down a bus or request a drop-off along a route, and buses have wheelchair lifts and bicycle racks. It does not name a Wayne jail stop or establish that 200 E Main is directly on an active path. No stop ID, final walk, safe crossing, sidewalk continuity, accessible entrance handoff or release pickup is promised.
Sources: Richmond public transportation routes · Roseview Transit bus routes document · Sheriff contact directory
Check seven service dates against the operator calendar
For October 1–7, 2026, the published calendar supports ordinary service Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with no service Saturday or Sunday. None is a listed Roseview closure holiday. This is a calendar check, not a guarantee of a jail stop, seat, connection or release pickup.
Sources: Richmond public transportation · Richmond public transportation routes
Use verified contacts without assuming availability
Downtown Deli, 718 E Main Street, publishes Monday–Friday 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. and 765-488-2049. Visit Richmond maintains the lodging directory; one listed 24/7 property is Richmond Inn and Suites, 3020 E Main Street, 765-966-1506. Confirm open status, accessibility, price and availability directly; no walking distance or endorsement is implied.

Use outside services for outside needs
Indiana 211 and the Visit Richmond local-resource directory can identify food, shelter, transportation and emergency assistance. Richmond Housing Authority's help center is 765-966-2687; its listed hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Wednesday 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Eligibility and same-day placement are not guaranteed.

Keep Community Corrections and probation separate
Wayne County Community Corrections is at 401 E Main Street on the bottom floor of the Annex, 765-973-9396, Monday–Friday 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Probation is a separate office at the same street address, 765-973-9279, Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. These are court-supervision services, not the adult jail and not automatic release placement.
Sources: Wayne County Community Corrections · Wayne County Probation
Ask about county eligibility before using state resources
Ask jail staff, counsel, probation or Community Corrections which county programs can begin before release and what documents are needed. IDOC reentry pages serve the state-prison system and do not establish Wayne County jail eligibility. Preserve identification, prescription, court, supervision and housing needs for the discharge plan.
Sources: Wayne County Community Corrections · Wayne County Probation · IDOC Re-Entry Services
Do not apply adult rules to youth
Wayne County's juvenile intake center is at the Probation Department, 401 E Main Street, 765-973-9279, and handles the child/parent court-intake path after a youth arrest. It is not proof that a youth is housed at the adult jail. Confirm youth placement and youth-specific visiting directly.
Sources: Wayne County juvenile intake center · Wayne County Probation
Separate local custody from other systems
Richmond Police and other arresting agencies do not establish current housing. Community Corrections, probation, courts, youth intake, IDOC prisons, federal custody, immigration detention, hospitals and private treatment each have separate rules. Confirm the current custodian before using any provider or address.

Reconfirm high-risk facts the day you act
Before travel or payment, reconfirm custody, 200 E Main Street, the correct jail entrance, 765-973-9397, current video eligibility, CPC/TurnKey account identifiers and remaining holds. Keep screenshots, receipts, error messages and staff names. Do not convert an explicit public-source gap into a guessed rule.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
