Use the active Sheriff jail at 720 Central Avenue
Madison County Jail, also called the Madison County Detention Center on Sheriff pages, is the adult Sheriff-operated jail at 720 Central Avenue, Anderson, IN 46016. The public jail number is 765-646-9285. Current Sheriff and county pages still direct jail, records, inquiry, visits, mail and commissary tasks there.
A new Madison County jail project has been reported, but no current official family page reviewed here announces a replacement intake date or a different operating address. Do not travel to a construction/project address. Confirm 720 Central with the jail before every trip, especially during a facility transition.

Confirm physical custody before paying or traveling
Use the Sheriff-linked Inmate Inquiry and search the full legal name plus spelling variants. Retain the displayed name, inmate ID, booking date, charge, court and status before opening a provider account or addressing mail. The Sheriff page itself warned that the inquiry page was down for maintenance when reviewed, so a blank result can be a system outage rather than proof of release.
If no record appears, call 765-646-9285 and ask whether booking is incomplete, the person uses another name, was released or transferred, or is physically at the separate Community Corrections system. VINE can alert on events and MyCase can show a case, but neither proves the current bed. Use IDOC, BOP or ICE locators only after the responsible agency is identified.

Visits and communication
Prepare onsite/remote video, phone and device accounts.
Schedule onsite video at least two hours ahead
Onsite visitation uses video terminals and is published every day in two windows: 9–11 a.m. and 1–4 p.m.. Visits must be scheduled at least two hours ahead through InmateSales or an onsite terminal. Friends/family onsite sessions are published as 20 minutes and free; a schedule is not a guarantee when housing, discipline, lockdown, misconduct or safety requires cancellation.
The registered adult must be at least 18 and have valid state or federal photo ID. The page does not publish a check-in cutoff, frequency cap, approved-list procedure, alternative-ID process, special/long-distance visit or lobby-terminal hours. Confirm those points with the jail before travel.
Sources: visits · inmateSales · sheriffContact
Prepare ID, minors and clothing for a video visit
Wear clothing that is not tight-fitting, provocative or see-through. Nudity, sexual content, gang/security-threat content, illegal activity, intoxication, photography, recording, alternate devices, and showing photographs, videos or social-media accounts are prohibited. The registered user must remain on screen.
A visitor under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian with an approved account, but the Sheriff does not publish proof-of-guardianship, infant-supply, number-of-minors or unaccompanied-minor exceptions. Leave unrelated belongings secured before entering and call the jail about disability or language accommodation, service animals, infant needs and any ID that is not a current state/federal photo ID.
Sources: visits · sheriffContact · countyAda
Use the local remote-video windows and save proof of failures
Remote sessions are published daily at 9–11 a.m., 1–4 p.m. and 7–11 p.m., scheduled at least two hours ahead through InmateSales. The Sheriff lists a 20-minute friends/family remote session at $0.20 per minute plus applicable taxes. Use a stable internet connection and earbuds; do not walk or ride in a vehicle. For poor video, the local instruction is to log out and rejoin.
Save the booking confirmation, start/end time, error screen and payment record before contacting provider support. The visitation page prints an incomplete support number, while the communication page prints 877-998-5678; use the complete number and jail contact, but ask which refund/credit rule controls because the local page does not publish one. Attorney video visits are stated to be unrecorded and unmonitored.

Create the correct calling account and troubleshoot locally
Jail telephones are published as available 7:30 a.m.–11 p.m. except lockdowns; discipline can limit access. The Sheriff sends families to InmateSales/Combined Public Communications and lists 877-998-5678 for calling accounts and jail voicemail.
Before paying, select Madison County Jail, match the inmate ID, verify the destination number and retain the receipt. If calls do not arrive, check carrier spam/unknown-call blocking, account balance and facility selection, then use provider support and the jail. The page also says phone-system issues should go to 1-800-844-6591, a number inconsistent with the locally identified CPC account path; do not move funds or open a second provider account until the jail confirms which support route applies. Local call rates, collect/prepaid types, number approval, refund and post-transfer balance rules are not published.

Treat tablets and Chirper as optional privileges
The Sheriff says Axxs tablets may support calls, music, books, games, legal research, video visits, religious and educational material, parenting/recovery workbooks and job search. The Chirper supports two-way messages; the local page lists $0.10 per message plus applicable taxes. Both may be limited by discipline.
Do not infer that every person has a device, every feature is enabled, or a subscription follows a transfer. Confirm the live product menu for this inmate before paying. For missing messages or a disabled device, keep the transaction history and ask provider support whether the issue is account, housing, discipline or facility availability.

Mail, books and money
Use the separate scan-mail, legal-mail and deposit paths.
Send personal mail to the scan-mail address—not the jail street
Address ordinary friends-and-family mail exactly: [Inmate Name – Inmate ID], Madison County Jail, IN, PO Box 76550, Highland Heights, KY 41076. Include a return address. Mail must be letter-size (no larger than 8½ × 11 inches), no thicker than light cardstock and able to pass through a sheet-fed scanner.
Incoming personal mail is opened and inspected/read. The linked rule says noncompliant or contraband mail will be destroyed, not returned. Do not mail stamps, blank envelopes, stationery, cash/checks/currency, address labels, stickers, homemade/musical cards, non-white envelopes or paper, paint, tracing/coloring pages, colored ink/marker/crayon/glitter, raised decoration, white-out, glue or other liquids. Greeting cards and commissary-sold items also are not accepted.
Sources: communication · mailPdf
Keep legal mail on the direct privileged route
Lawyers and other legal representatives should address mail: [Inmate Name – Inmate ID], Madison County Jail, IN, 720 Central Avenue, Anderson, IN 46016. The mail sheet says legal mail sent to the scan-mail address is returned to sender. Certified mail requiring the inmate’s signature and postage-due mail are also return-to-sender items.
The published material does not describe verification of legal sender, opening in the inmate’s presence, electronic legal delivery, rejection notice or appeal, or handling of original court documents. Counsel should confirm those points with the Jail Commander and put the case number and counsel identity on the correspondence where appropriate.
Sources: mailPdf · sheriffContact · mycase
Only photographs are a published personal-mail enclosure
The Sheriff mail sheet permits up to 10 photographs per package, printed on photo paper. Internet printouts, colored pages and provocative material are prohibited and destroyed. Its broad definition of provocative includes material causing a strong reaction as well as sexual material, so ask before mailing any borderline image.
No current local rule reviewed authorizes family-sent books, magazines, subscriptions, publisher-direct books, religious/legal texts, clothing or care packages. Do not order them based on a retailer’s generic jail policy; call the jail for the current approved-vendor or exception process. Mail refusal/destruction makes sending originals risky.
Sources: mailPdf · communication · sheriffContact
Use Access Corrections or the jail-lobby kiosk
The Sheriff identifies two deposit methods: Access Corrections online and the kiosk in the Madison County Jail lobby at 720 Central Avenue. In Access Corrections, select Indiana and the exact Madison County agency, then match the person by inmate ID or full name. Accurate account identity, verified phone/address/email and billing-address matching can matter; save the receipt and transaction status.
Commissary is a privilege and may be limited by discipline. The county does not publish kiosk hours, accepted kiosk payment types, fees, caps, deductions, order/delivery days, approved packages, indigent supplies or release-balance handling. Do not mail cash or checks; the mail policy prohibits currency. Ask the jail/provider before retrying a pending or rejected deposit.

Health, rights and safety
Escalate care and preserve grievance, ADA and PREA boundaries.
Send urgent health information to custody staff with identifiers
The jail does not publish a family medical line or current clinical contractor. For an immediate life-threatening emergency call 911; for a person already in custody, also call the jail at 765-646-9285, state the person’s full name and inmate ID, describe the concrete risk, ask that information reach medical staff, and request the name/title of the person receiving it. Do not use email alone for an emergency.
You may provide information even when privacy rules prevent staff from disclosing treatment back to you. Ask the incarcerated person to request care and, when needed, sign the facility’s authorization for records or family discussion. The county Health Department provides community public-health services but is not identified as jail medical care.
Sources: sheriffContact · hipaaFamily · healthDept
Escalate suicide or psychiatric risk without delay
For threats of self-harm, psychosis, withdrawal or another acute behavioral-health risk, call 911 if danger is unfolding outside custody; if the person is booked, call the jail and ask for immediate welfare/medical review and a supervisor. Give exact statements, behavior, diagnosis, medication and last-known timing; record when and to whom you reported.
The jail program page names Aspire Indiana as a jail program connection but does not establish a family clinical channel or guarantee enrollment. Aspire’s community access line is 877-574-1254 and 24-hour crisis line is 800-560-4038; those are community resources, not substitutes for alerting jail custody staff.
Sources: programs · sheriffContact · aspire
Do not bring medication or devices without approval
No reviewed local page authorizes family drop-off of prescription bottles, eyeglasses, contacts, hearing aids, CPAP supplies or other medical devices. Call the jail before traveling, ask what medical staff will verify, where an approved item is accepted and what pharmacy/prescriber information is needed. Never put medication in mail or a commissary deposit.
For records, ask which authorization form the patient must sign, the medical-record custodian, delivery method and copy fee. Keep the clinical issue separate from public jail/incident records handled by the Sheriff Records Division at 765-646-9290.
Sources: sheriffContact · mailPdf · hipaaFamily
Separate the resident grievance from a family complaint
The Sheriff does not publish the incarcerated-person grievance form, filing deadline, emergency grievance, appeal or retaliation route. The person should request the current grievance procedure and keep the form/response dates. A family member can document a concern to the Jail Commander at sheriff_jaildivision@madisoncounty.in.gov and 765-646-9285, asking for a tracking number or written response.
For immediate danger use 911. Records requests, court motions, provider billing disputes, ADA/Title VI complaints and PREA reports are separate processes; sending one does not preserve another deadline.
Sources: sheriffContact · countyAda · prea · mycase
Request jail accommodation first; preserve the county route
Ask the jail in advance for an accessible visit terminal/route, effective communication, interpreter, auxiliary aid, service-animal handling or reasonable modification. The county lists a Title VI/ADA coordinator at 765-641-9478 and says county discrimination complaints must be written within 90 days; it also asks for 48 hours’ notice for public meeting/event aids.
The county page does not expressly say whether that public meeting/event notice rule or complaint form is the controlling inmate-services procedure. Use the jail first for an operational need and the coordinator for county escalation, while recording that jail-specific applicability remains unverified.
Sources: countyAda · sheriffContact · visits
Report sexual abuse or harassment as a safety issue
No Madison County Jail page reviewed publishes a PREA coordinator, confidential outside reporter, anonymous/third-party channel, victim advocate or evidence-preservation instructions. If danger is immediate, call 911 and the jail. Otherwise contact the Jail Commander, clearly say the report concerns sexual abuse or harassment, preserve dates/names/messages and ask how to make a confidential third-party report without alerting an alleged perpetrator.
The national PREA Resource Center explains the standards but does not receive Madison County reports. Ask the jail for its current local reporting and advocacy channel; do not send sensitive allegations to an unrelated provider account.

Court, counsel and release
Separate court orders, jail processing, property and reentry.
Use the court record for charges, hearings and orders
Search MyCase by name or case number and verify the Madison County court division, charge, next event, bond order and counsel appearance. The Unified Circuit Court is at 16 E 9th Street, Anderson, IN 46016; the Clerk is in Room 213 and receives mail at PO Box 1277, Anderson, IN 46015. Court Administration manages pretrial services and video initial hearings.
A case record does not prove current housing or release completion. Call the court/Clerk for case documents and the jail for physical custody, transport, property and discharge. Court staff can provide procedure and record information but not legal advice.
Sources: mycase · courts · clerk · courtAdmin
Find the appointed lawyer in the case file
Look for the attorney appearance and appointment order in MyCase, then contact that lawyer’s listed office. Indiana’s judiciary directs defendants awaiting trial, sentencing or direct appeal in state court to the public-defender system in the county where charges were filed. If no counsel is shown, ask the assigned court/Clerk how an indigency request is made; do not assume a family member can appoint counsel by calling the jail.
Attorney video visits are published as unrecorded and unmonitored. Lawyers should arrange confidential contact through the jail/provider and confirm the direct legal-mail route before sending originals.
Sources: mycase · publicDefender · visits · mailPdf · clerk
Read the signed bond order before paying
The current local rules contain a default felony bond schedule plus important exceptions, including offenses held for judicial review and residence/probation/bail circumstances. A judge can order something different. Use the signed order and MyCase, then ask the Clerk/jail who accepts payment, accepted tender, payer ID, receipts, surety requirements and after-hours handling.
Do not quote a schedule amount as the amount due in a specific case or pay a third party from an unofficial listing. Ask about no-contact conditions, holds, warrants and other cases before promising a release time. The packet deliberately does not invent an after-hours bond desk, payment method or release estimate.
Sources: localRules · mycase · clerk · courtAdmin · sheriffContact
Get written authorization before a property pickup
No local public page states who can pick up inmate property, the authorization form, required ID, pickup entrance/hours, storage deadline or unclaimed-property process. The incarcerated person should request the jail’s current release form. The recipient should call 765-646-9285 before travel and bring the ID the jail confirms.
Do not confuse property release with commissary funds, mail, evidence held by police/prosecutor, or belongings at Community Corrections. Record the staff name, date, items authorized and pickup instruction.
Sources: sheriffContact · communityCorrections · commissary
Plan pickup around holds and processing—not a promised time
A court order may still require jail records review, identity checks, other-agency warrant/hold review, transport return and discharge processing. Confirm directly with the jail that the person is physically at 720 Central and approved for release before sending a ride. Ask which door/waiting area is used, whether staff will notify the person, and how medication, documents, clothing, phone charging and remaining funds are handled.
Do not rely on MyCase or VINE alone for the minute of release. If a transfer to IDOC, federal/ICE custody or Community Corrections is possible, ask which agency now has physical custody and use that system’s rules.
Sources: sheriffContact · mycase · vine · communityCorrections · idocLocator · bop · ice
Start with programs actually named by the jail
The jail lists HIP 2.0 enrollment; weekly eligible faith-based worship and one-to-one chaplaincy; No More Excuses; Celebrate Recovery; Aspire Indiana; Recovery Works; and tablet education, legal research, self-help and job-search material. Availability is eligibility-, housing- and capacity-dependent; ask the person to submit a request and ask the jail/chaplain what is active now.
For release planning, Indiana 211 can locate current food, housing, health and transportation; Madison County JobSource is at 3530 Mounds Road, 765-646-9276; Aspire provides community health/behavioral access. Community Corrections and Adult Probation are court/supervision systems, not voluntary jail programs, unless the court or agency places the person there.
Sources: programs · indiana211 · jobSource · aspire · communityCorrections · adultProbation
Route jail, court and medical records separately
For Sheriff jail/incident records, start with Records at 765-646-9290 or sheriff_recordsdivision@madisoncounty.in.gov and identify the person, date and exact record. For court filings and orders, use MyCase and the Clerk. For health records, use the medical custodian/authorization process supplied by jail medical staff.
Ask about exemptions, redactions, fees, format and retention before assuming a record is public or immediately available. A VINE alert, provider receipt or inmate-inquiry screen is useful evidence but is not the official court or medical record.

Travel and local support
Confirm entrance, parking, transit and local services.
Verify the lobby entrance and parking before departure
The verified destination is 720 Central Avenue, Anderson, IN 46016. The onsite-visit and kiosk pages establish that a public jail lobby exists, but no reviewed official page names the public entrance, designated visitor parking, accessible drop-off, after-hours door, overflow lot or towing boundary. Call the jail before leaving and ask for the entrance serving scheduled video visits or kiosk deposits.
Do not use the Government Center at 16 E 9th Street for jail visits, deposits or release pickup. It houses court/county offices. During the new-jail transition, re-confirm the operating address the same day.

Use CATS only with a confirmed final connection
CATS publishes fixed-route service Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m., with no Sunday service and listed holiday closures. The current route page says six fixed routes run about every 50 minutes, from the downtown terminal on the hour before noon and 10 minutes after in the afternoon; Saturdays leave on the hour. Regular one-way fare is published as $1 with exact change requested.
The operator’s route book is older and does not identify Madison County Jail as a timed stop. Do not invent a stop or safe final walk. Call the CATS terminal at 765-646-5747 with 720 Central Avenue and ask which current route/boarding point, direction, alighting point and accessible path apply that day.
Nifty Lift is only for riders whose approved ADA eligibility is on file. Call 765-644-8312; the current page requests notice by 7 p.m. the prior day, subject to scheduling. The rider guide says service is within Anderson and up to ¾ mile of an operating fixed route and urges a booked return.

Use verified downtown support and confirm lodging
The Christian Center, 625 Main Street, 765-649-4264, publishes free breakfast 7–8 a.m. and lunch noon–1 p.m. daily, plus dinner Monday–Saturday 5–6 p.m.; no ID or registration is required for meals. Its page also contains inconsistent “six days” wording, so call before relying on a meal. Indiana 211 (211 or 866-211-9966) gives live food, shelter, health and transportation referrals.
One verified lodging option is Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Anderson, 2400 E 64th Street, 765-374-6300, with published onsite parking, 3 p.m. check-in and noon checkout. It is not represented as walkable from the jail. Confirm same-day price, availability, accessibility and transportation directly; no rate is promised.
Aspire’s DeHaven Health Center is at 2020 Brown Street, 765-641-8389. Community services do not accept custody complaints or replace jail medical escalation.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
