Sources reviewed

One Sheriff-operated adult county jail at 189 E Campus Boulevard. Excludes Work Release/Community Corrections, juvenile systems, municipal lockups, courts, probation, former/historic jails, Indiana DOC prisons, federal/immigration custody, hospitals and shelters.

  1. Confirm custody

Search INjail, retain the live identifier and call 317-745-9332.

  2. Match the task owner

Use HomeWAV for communications, ConnectNetwork for commissary and the assigned court for orders.

  3. Confirm the last mile

Reserve LINK both ways and verify the exact public jail door.

PART 01

Confirm the active adult jail

Separate the 2023 jail from former buildings and other custody systems.

Use the 2023 Sheriff jail at 189 E Campus Boulevard

Hendricks County Jail is the Sheriff-operated adult county jail at 189 E Campus Blvd, Danville, IN 46122; the jail/bond line is 317-745-9332. The Sheriff administrative number is 317-745-6269. The county ADA plan says this 600-bed building was occupied in 2023 and the old county jail complex was closed to the public and removed from inventory.

Do not use 925 E Main Street or 170 Old Farm Road from stale directories. Keep Work Release at 200 E Campus Blvd, juvenile probation/detention, municipal lockups, the historical jail museum, Indiana DOC, BOP and ICE separate. The handbook calls this jail an Indiana DOC holding facility; that means some state-sentenced people may wait here, not that 189 E Campus is a state prison.

Search the official statewide jail portal, then call

The Town of Avon directs the public to INjail Public Access for people currently or recently held at Hendricks County Jail. Search the live application, select the matching Hendricks County record, and retain the exact name, prisoner/jacket or booking identifier, booking/release status, charges, bond and agency fields that the live result actually shows.

If there is no result, retry legal-name and spelling variants and allow for booking, release or transfer lag. Call 317-745-9332 before paying or travelling. Use MyCase for the court case, IDOC for state custody, BOP for federal prison and ICE for immigration custody; a case result is not proof of the person’s present bed.

PART 02

Prepare the visit and the account

Use the live local schedule while preserving the provider and policy limits.

Schedule onsite visits at least 24 hours ahead

Onsite HomeWAV visits require an approved visitor account and must be scheduled 24 hours ahead. The county allows three 30-minute onsite visits per person per week. Published windows are Monday–Friday 8:30–11:30 a.m., 1–5:30 p.m. and 7–11 p.m.; Saturday–Sunday 1–5:30 p.m. and 7–11 p.m. New visitor accounts are approved only Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m., so do not create the account at the last minute.

Remote video is available, but HomeWAV says remote sessions are calls rather than advance-scheduled onsite slots. Choose Hendricks County in the account and verify the person. Lockdown, classification, discipline, court, transfer or staff restrictions can remove access without guaranteeing a replacement.

Sources: Hendricks County Sheriff — Jail Division · Hendricks County Jail Inmate Handbook and Rules (current linked PDF) · HomeWAV FAQ and forms · HomeWAV quick start

Prepare every visitor and confirm unpublished ID rules

Each visitor must use their own credentials; visit sharing is forbidden. A person under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who has a valid HomeWAV account. Dress as appropriate around small children. Onsite visitors must leave phones, cameras and recording devices in the vehicle; flashing, obscene conduct, drugs, three-way calling, account sharing and protection-order violations can block future visits.

The public policy does not identify acceptable government ID, alternatives for someone without ID, maximum children, diaper/infant items, former-inmate or probation restrictions, check-in cutoff, long-distance exceptions or onsite accessibility procedure. Call 317-745-9332 before travel. All facility visitors may be selected for a body scan; refusal ends the visit.

Test the connection and preserve a failed-session record

Create the HomeWAV account, select the facility and correct person, complete any facility-requested ID upload, and test browser/app, camera, microphone, speaker and internet before connecting. For onsite use, keep the reservation confirmation; for remote use, be signed in so the incarcerated person can initiate the call.

For a failure, record date/time, facility, username, person, device/app version, transaction, minutes charged, error and screenshots. Contact HomeWAV at 844-394-6639 before repurchasing and ask the jail whether access was locally suspended. The current handbook sends all tablet refund requests to HomeWAV. Provider refund eligibility depends on fund type; Talk-to-Me funds and Inmate General Funds are not interchangeable, and transfers between incarcerated people are not allowed.

PART 03

Keep each channel and account separate

Use the correct address, identifier, provider and failure path.

Fund the correct HomeWAV voice account

Calls are placed through HomeWAV from housing stations; the system cannot call pagers or internet phones. The current handbook lists access 6:30–11:30 a.m., 1–4:30 p.m. and 6–11 p.m. daily, subject to classification. The county webpage instead says 8:30 a.m.–11 p.m. and offers $2 initial credit, while the handbook says $1. Treat both the hours and initial credit as conflicts and confirm in the live account or with the jail.

Staff deliver only verifiable emergency messages, checked with a hospital, coroner or funeral home. For no-call problems, verify account type, phone number, balance, blocks, facility/person match and housing restriction with HomeWAV, then the jail. Ordinary communications are monitored; ask counsel and the jail how a confidential legal call is arranged.

Sources: Hendricks County Sheriff — Jail Division · Hendricks County Jail Inmate Handbook and Rules (current linked PDF) · HomeWAV FAQ and forms · HomeWAV Customer Support

Treat tablet messaging as conditional and monitored

People in general population may share HomeWAV tablets and use electronic messages. New intake receives tablet access only after classification; 23/1 segregation has no tablet access. Messages involving threats, trafficking, unauthorized financial activity, gangs, business transactions, sexual content or nudity can lead to 30-day, 60-day or permanent restrictions.

For missing messages or charges, preserve the transaction and screenshot and contact HomeWAV. The jail says it does not investigate tablet fee claims. Do not assume that every attachment, photo or voicemail feature is enabled at Hendricks because a generic provider page lists it.

Use the PO Box and put the return identity twice

Address personal mail: incarcerated person’s full name; prisoner ID/jacket number; P.O. Box 87, Danville, IN 46122-0087. Put the sender’s full name and legible physical return address on both the envelope and the correspondence itself; no return-address labels. The envelope will be destroyed after inspection, so the inside return identity matters.

No inmate-to-inmate mail, third-party forwarding, packages, cash, stickers, adhesives, powders, glitter, food, devices, clippings or unapproved substances. Unacceptable mail is placed in property or returned and the recipient receives a confiscation notice. Keep a copy; do not mail irreplaceable originals.

Sources: Hendricks County Sheriff — Jail Division · Hendricks County Jail Incoming Mail Policy, effective 2025-02-21 · Hendricks County Jail Inmate Handbook and Rules (current linked PDF)

Use publisher-direct books and stay within possession limits

Family/friends may order paperback books and periodicals directly from a publisher or bookstore; hardbacks and packages are not accepted. The handbook possession table allows three paperback books and three magazines per person. It also allows ten personal photographs; photos sent with a letter must not be lewd, obscene or expose breasts, buttocks or genitals.

The separate mail policy permits up to two photocopied articles totaling no more than four pages in daily correspondence. Clothing and hygiene items cannot be mailed or dropped off; court clothing requires advance arrangements. The jail webpage’s final banner says “NO BOOKS, CROSSWORD PUZZLES, OR MAGAZINES,” while its own library-books paragraph and the mail policy permit publisher-direct items. Confirm before ordering and keep the conflict visible.

Keep commissary trust and HomeWAV funds separate

For commissary, use the 24-hour jail-entry kiosk or ConnectNetwork Trust online/at 888-988-4768. The kiosk accepts $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills plus debit/credit cards. Do not mail cash, checks or money orders. Confirm the person and ID, facility, account type, fee and receipt before paying.

Commissary orders close Monday and Wednesday at 4 p.m. and issue Tuesday and Thursday. The first order must include hygiene, underwear, socks, shirts and correspondence materials before food. The jail cannot move money between HomeWAV and commissary. Discipline/classification can limit commissary. Indigent status requires all four handbook conditions: seven straight days housed, under $1, no money received in the prior month and no commissary/phone purchase in the prior month.

PART 04

Protect health, safety and access

Relay facts through the jail and use the published internal procedures.

Route urgent facts to the jail; care is not denied for inability to pay

People inside submit a HomeWAV medical request for daily sick call; emergency treatment is available 24/7 and a deputy may summon EMS for possible loss of life or limb. A family member with an urgent fact should call 317-745-9332, request the on-duty supervisor and give the person’s name/ID, symptom, onset, medication/allergy and callback. Call 911 only for an immediate emergency at the jail and follow dispatch direction.

The handbook says no one is denied care for inability to pay. Its current fee table lists $10 nurse, $10 dentist, $5 prescription/refill and $10 doctor/specialist/lab/x-ray referral, with specified no-charge exceptions. The county webpage lists $10 medication and separate $10 labs/x-rays, so fee details conflict. Do not delay urgent care over the fee; confirm the current charge internally.

Sources: Hendricks County Jail Inmate Handbook and Rules (current linked PDF) · Hendricks County Sheriff — Jail Division · Hendricks Regional Health contact

Use the medical request or staff referral

Mental-health services are available through the jail. The incarcerated person may request a counselor with a sick-call form, or jail/medical staff may refer them. Family cannot use that form; call 317-745-9332 with specific behavior, statements, timing and known diagnosis/medication and ask for the on-duty supervisor.

The public materials do not give a direct mental-health clinician line, family notification protocol, suicide-watch update rule or post-crisis follow-up. Medical status is not released to family/friends without proper authorization. In immediate danger, use 911 and identify the person as held at 189 E Campus Boulevard.

Sources: Hendricks County Jail Inmate Handbook and Rules (current linked PDF) · Hendricks County Sheriff — Jail Division

Expect jail-physician review, not automatic continuation

Medication/prescription refills may be brought for jail-physician authorization; nothing should be delivered without calling first. The jail physician may change, discontinue or substitute medication, including non-narcotic alternatives. Eyeglasses, dentures and other outside property require advance approval by the Jail Commander or medical staff; family may pick up glasses for repair after the person reports the need.

Treatment may depend on records obtained through a signed HIPAA-compliant release. The jail says medical information is not released to family or friends. Ask the person, clinician and prior provider to coordinate the release; do not assume an outside prescription bottle will be accepted.

Sources: Hendricks County Sheriff — Jail Division · Hendricks County Jail Inmate Handbook and Rules (current linked PDF)

Meet the 24-hour internal grievance deadline

An incarcerated person may request a paper grievance from the unit officer or submit through the HomeWAV kiosk. Name all parties, use one incident per grievance, avoid abusive language and file within 24 hours of the incident. A shift supervisor has ten days excluding weekends/holidays to respond.

Appeal within 24 hours of the response to the Shift Lieutenant (another ten days excluding weekends/holidays), then appeal within 24 hours of the Level 2 answer to the Jail Commander, who has a “reasonable” response time. Classification/discipline uses its own appeal route. Medical grievances go to Nursing/Medical. Preserve copies, dates and names; the public policy does not provide a family-filed substitute.

Sources: Hendricks County Jail Inmate Handbook and Rules (current linked PDF)

Ask locally first, then preserve the county ADA route

Call 317-745-9332 before an onsite visit for wheelchair access, communication aids, alternate-format material, medication/device entry or another accommodation. The county says the new jail was designed as ADA compliant, but that does not answer the exact visitor door, drop-off, assistive listening, interpreter or service-animal procedure.

For disability discrimination by county government, the county ADA procedure directs a complaint through its Mobile 311 ADA work type as soon as possible and no later than 60 calendar days. The ADA Coordinator/Engineering contact is 317-745-9236, TDD 317-745-9391; a county response sequence and appeal to Commissioners are published. LINK offers wheelchair transport, portable oxygen, attendants, service animals, Indiana Relay 711 and alternative formats; disclose needs at reservation.

Use staff or the two published sexual-assault lines

The jail states zero tolerance for inmate-on-inmate and staff-on-inmate sexual abuse, harassment or misconduct. A person inside should report immediately to jail staff or use the inmate phone to call the Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault line at 800-691-2272 or the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800-656-4673. The handbook advises not showering, changing/washing clothes or brushing teeth after an assault.

A family member should call 317-745-9332 with the person’s name/ID, immediate safety concern and allegation and ask that the report reach the Jail Commander/PREA process. The county does not publish a named PREA coordinator, outside written reporting address, anonymous third-party form or investigation-status contact; these remain responsible-contact gaps.

PART 06

Plan a demand-response last mile

Reserve both directions and confirm the exact public door before travel.

Use 189 E Campus Boulevard and confirm the visitor door

Navigate to Hendricks County Jail, 189 E Campus Blvd, Danville, IN 46122, not the former jail addresses, Work Release at 200 E Campus or the museum. The lobby commissary kiosk is described as open 24/7, but that does not establish visit check-in hours. Call 317-745-9332 for the exact visitor/lobby entrance.

The county does not publish a named visitor lot, parking hours, accessible drop-off, overflow rules or final walking route. The visit policy says phones/cameras must remain in the vehicle, so verify parking security and do not bring prohibited items. The old jail complex is closed and in demolition/removal status in the ADA plan.

Reserve LINK both ways; there is no fixed jail stop

LINK Hendricks County is demand-response, shared-ride, curb-to-curb/door-to-door public transit for any age within the county, Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–6 p.m., subject to availability, weather and holidays. Reserve at 317-718-4474 or link1@hcseniors.org with name/DOB, phone, home, pickup/drop-off, appointment duration, emergency contact and accessibility needs. Ask for 189 E Campus Blvd and confirm which jail door the driver can serve.

The webpage encourages 48 hours’ notice and up to five weeks, while the January 2026 rider guide says eight days to five weeks: reserve as early as possible and call to reconcile. Fare is $6 each leg within a town and $8 each leg elsewhere; exact cash is required unless paying by card by phone. The 30-minute pickup window and shared ride make a tight visit unsafe; reserve the return and allow screening time.

Use verified directories; do not assume walkability

No official source establishes a safe pedestrian route, restaurant or hotel at the jail campus. For food, Visit Hendricks County maintains a current Danville restaurant directory; for lodging it lists Danville options and a county hotel map. Confirm business hours, room availability, accessibility and transportation directly—no rate or vacancy is promised here.

For practical/basic needs rather than visitor dining, the Health Partnership lists Shared Blessings, 820 W Mill St, Danville, Tuesday 6–7:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.–noon, with Hendricks residency proof, and other pantries with differing eligibility. The nearby hospital at 1000 E Main Street is not a visitor waiting area or jail medical contact.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
