  1. Confirm Indiana custody

  2. Schedule through the verified provider

Use ICSolutions at least 12 hours ahead and reconfirm the housing window.

  3. Reserve both DART legs

Call 260-925-3311; no date is booked or guaranteed.

PART 01

Confirm the adult Sheriff system

Identity, lookup and responsible contacts

Use the adult Sheriff jail at 215 E 8th Street

DeKalb County Jail is the adult Sheriff custody system at 215 E 8th St, Auburn, IN 46706. The jail and Sheriff share the address; call 260-925-3365 and choose extension 2 for jail questions.

This guide is for DeKalb County, Indiana. Do not use similarly named rules from DeKalb County, Illinois, Georgia or Alabama.

Confirm current custody before any payment or trip

Search the Sheriff tool by first name, last name or booking number; it covers current and recently released people. Save the exact spelling, booking number, custody status and booking date. Then check the Indiana County Jail Public Portal.

If no result appears, reduce filters and call extension 2 because roster changes may lag. MyCase proves a case record, not current housing; search IDOC, BOP or ICE only when the county jail is not confirmed.

Route the question to the office that owns it

Use 260-925-3365 ext. 2 for jail and inmate information, ext. 3 for Sheriff administration, 260-333-7911 for non-emergency dispatch, and 911 for emergencies. Records uses ext. 4410.

Do not put private health, attorney or payment data in the generic web form. Ask staff for the approved recipient and channel.

PART 02

Plan a verified visit

Schedule, visitor exceptions and video failure handling

Schedule the verified video visit, then reconfirm

The Sheriff assigns video visitation to ICSolutions. Register the visitor and relationship, select DeKalb County Jail, and schedule at least 12 hours ahead and no more than 2 weeks ahead. Check in 10 minutes early.

Maximum-security visits are limited to 8 a.m.–noon daily except privileged visits. The separate inmate-search page says “Sat–Sun 9 a.m.–3 p.m., appointment only,” so treat that as a live conflict and use the ICSolutions calendar plus ext. 2 for the person’s current availability.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Visitation · DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Search · ICSolutions — Friends and Family Visitation

Verify ID, minors and exceptions before arrival

The jail overview requires valid photo ID and no personal items in the visit area, but the detailed page says only that ID “may” be required. Local rules for minors, guardianship papers, visitor count, dress, infant items, clergy and long-distance exceptions are not published.

Call ext. 2 before departure. Ask what ID is accepted, whether a minor needs a birth certificate or guardian proof, which lobby entrance to use, and whether a disability or language accommodation must be requested in advance.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Jail Services · DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Visitation · DeKalb County Sheriff — Accessibility

Prepare the device and protect the transaction

Two free lobby-terminal visits per week are published. Remote visits cost $7.50 for 30 minutes and use Android, iOS or Windows; ICSolutions may require visitor software. Confirm camera, microphone, browser and internet before the session.

No refund is issued for a no-show or lost internet connection, and the visitor cannot reconnect after a disconnect. Save the confirmation and receipt; use ICSolutions for account/device trouble and ext. 2 for facility cancellation or inmate-program conflicts.

PART 03

Keep every communication channel distinct

Phone, tablets, mail, packages and money

Confirm the voice provider separately from video

The Sheriff verifies ICSolutions for video but does not clearly name the current voice-call provider or local rate. The commissary page says trust funds may be used for phone calls; that does not prove which account receives calls.

Before depositing into a phone account, ask ext. 2 which provider and account type apply today and verify the facility in the live selector. Ask the provider—not the jail—about declined numbers, blocks, payment failure and refund eligibility.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Visitation · DeKalb County Sheriff — Commissary · ICSolutions — Friends and Family

Keep tablet money and services task-specific

The Sheriff says tablets include a law library, education and free content, with movies and music available for purchase. It links Access Corrections for money but GettingOut at 866-516-0115 for tablet-account refund requests.

That split is a provider-attribution conflict, not permission to use every service each vendor advertises. Confirm the exact account, available messaging/photo features, rates, monitoring and housing eligibility before payment.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Visitation · DeKalb County Sheriff — Commissary · GettingOut — Help Center · Access Corrections

Obtain the current personal-mail format before sending

No reviewed current Sheriff page publishes a personal-mail address, required name/booking line, scanning vendor, postcard rule or what happens to originals. Do not assume the street address accepts personal mail.

Call ext. 2 immediately before mailing. Ask for the full address and ID line, sender-address rule, paper/envelope limits, scanning or destruction, rejection notice and return procedure.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Jail Services · DeKalb County Sheriff — Contact

Use only the verified Securepak channel

The Sheriff verifies Access Securepak for family-purchased care packages. Orders are due by midnight Thursday for delivery the following Wednesday; catalog and eligibility remain facility-specific.

Rules for mailed books, photos, greeting cards and packages outside Securepak are not published. Do not send them until ext. 2 confirms vendor, quantity, publisher requirement and rejection handling.

Select the correct DeKalb recipient in Access Corrections

Deposit online or by phone through Access Corrections at 636-888-7004, or use the 24-hour lobby kiosk at 215 E 8th St. Confirm the name and booking identifier before payment. Deposits usually post within 24–48 hours and fees may apply.

Deposits are nonrefundable while the person remains in custody. The Sheriff says remaining funds are returned at release; ask how and when. Securepak orders are separate from trust deposits.

PART 04

Protect health, safety and access

Medical, mental health, medication, grievance, ADA and PREA

Relay medical urgency without asking for private details

Quality Correctional Care provides jail healthcare. Booking includes medical screening; published services include sick call, chronic care, 24/7 medical access, emergency response, hospital transport and outside-specialist coordination.

For an urgent concern call ext. 2 and state the person’s name, booking number, symptom, time and risk. Ask staff to relay it to medical; the jail may not disclose protected health information without authorization. Call 911 for a community emergency, not as a substitute for the jail’s internal response.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Medical Services · Quality Correctional Care · DeKalb County Sheriff — Contact

Use the jail for custody care and NEC for community crisis help

The jail publishes mental-health assessment, counseling, psychiatric medication management and crisis intervention. Family welfare concerns should go to ext. 2 with specific behavior or threats and a request for clinical relay.

For a family member outside custody, Northeastern Center Emergency Solutions at 800-790-0118 operates 24/7 at 1752 Wesley Rd. It is not the jail contractor and cannot disclose jail care.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Medical Services · DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Programs · Northeastern Center — Emergency Solutions

Do not bring medication without approval

People should disclose prescriptions during booking. Medical staff dispense all medication; no medication stays in cells, and outside medication requires jail-medical approval.

The public page does not say whether family may deliver labeled bottles, eyeglasses or equipment, nor how records and releases are transmitted. Call ext. 2 for the approved medical channel before traveling or sending anything.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Medical Services · DeKalb County Sheriff — Contact

Separate inmate grievances from website complaints

The PREA page mentions a written grievance for sexual-abuse reports, but no current public source explains the general inmate grievance form, deadlines, emergency path or appeal. Ask the incarcerated person to request the current form and keep copies or dates.

The public accessibility page has a website-access grievance and 15-business-day response; it is not automatically the custody-grievance process. Families can call administration at ext. 3 to ask who owns an unresolved process complaint.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — PREA · DeKalb County Sheriff — Accessibility · DeKalb County Sheriff — Contact

Request custody accommodations from the jail directly

The Sheriff’s accessibility statement addresses the public website, not custody accommodations. The jail has not published an ADA coordinator, request form, interpreter process, auxiliary-aid timeline or appeal for incarcerated people or visitors.

Call ext. 2 before a visit and ext. 3 for administrative follow-up. Describe the functional need, language, device or service animal and deadline; document the request. DOJ ADA information is a rights reference, not the local request channel.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Accessibility · DeKalb County Sheriff — Contact · U.S. Department of Justice — ADA

Use the published third-party route, but ask for the missing hotline

The jail has zero tolerance. A person may tell staff, give a written statement/grievance, use the facility confidential hotline, or have family contact jail administration. Retaliation is prohibited.

The page does not publish the hotline number or an outside confidential victim-support contact. For a third-party report call 260-925-3365 and say it is a PREA report; for immediate danger call 911. Ask how to preserve confidentiality and obtain a report reference.

PART 06

Plan the Auburn trip

Arrival, transit dates, food and lodging

Confirm the public entrance and parking space

The verified destination is 215 E 8th St and the lobby is described as open 24/7. No reviewed official page names the visitor lot, accessible spaces, after-hours door, clearance or drop-off curb.

Call ext. 2 before driving. Ask which entrance serves video terminals, bonds, property and release; where to park; whether a vehicle may wait; and which accessible path is open at the planned time.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Jail Services · DeKalb County Sheriff — Contact · DeKalb County Sheriff — Accessibility

Use DART as reservation demand-response, not a fixed jail bus

DART is the INDOT-listed DeKalb County public transit operator for all ages. It runs shared door-to-door demand response Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–6 p.m.; scheduling is 8 a.m.–4 p.m. at 260-925-3311. Reserve 24 hours ahead when possible; same-day space may exist.

Ask for both legs and the safe curb at 215 E 8th. Within the same city/town the brochure lists $5 per passenger per stop; exact change is required. DART is not a fixed jail route and the driver cannot enter the building.

Sources: INDOT — Indiana Public Transit Systems · DeKalb Area Rural Transit — Transportation · DART — Rider Brochure

Treat seven dates as call prompts, not confirmed rides

Planning checks are October 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, 2026. For each weekday call DART during scheduling hours and confirm capacity, pickup window, exact curb, fare, return trip, weather status and accommodation.

No ride has been booked or guaranteed. Be ready 15 minutes early; DART may arrive 15 minutes before or after, waits only five minutes, and charges $5 for late cancellation or no-show under the published policy.

Sources: DART — Rider Brochure · DeKalb Area Rural Transit — Transportation

Use current local directories and verify hours

Auburn Main Street and United Way maintain local service and meal/pantry directories. Use them to find a stop near the courthouse/jail day, then call the listed business or pantry before relying on hours or eligibility.

The DeKalb Council on Aging at 1800 E 7th St, 260-925-3311, publishes information/referral and an emergency small food pantry. It is a community resource, not jail commissary.

Sources: Auburn Main Street · United Way of DeKalb County — Local Resources · DeKalb County Council on Aging — Services

Book lodging only after confirming visit approval

The City of Auburn publishes a lodging list and notes road access from I-69; Visit DeKalb provides current visitor listings. Compare distance to 215 E 8th, cancellation terms, accessibility, check-in time and parking directly with the property.

Waterloo has an Amtrak station, but no reviewed source establishes a timed last-mile connection to the jail. A DART reservation is separate and should be confirmed before a rail ticket is treated as workable.

PART 07

Keep systems separate and plan forward

Custody boundaries, safety, programs and first day

Do not transfer rules across custody systems

Keep the adult Sheriff jail separate from Community Corrections/Residential Work Facility at 1000 Potter Drive, county courts, probation, municipal police, youth placements, IDOC prisons, BOP, ICE and neighboring jails. Transport between systems does not merge their rules.

Also reject search results for DeKalb County Jail in Illinois, Georgia and Alabama. Verify Auburn, Indiana, 260 area code and 215 E 8th before acting.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Jail Services · DeKalb County Community Corrections — Programs · DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Transport · Indiana DOC — Incarcerated Search · Federal Bureau of Prisons — Inmate Locator · ICE — Online Detainee Locator

Use VINE as an alert, not the only safety plan

Indiana VINE is free, confidential, available in English and Spanish, and can send phone, text or email notices for release, transfer or escape. Register at VINELink or call 877-894-8463.

Updates can lag and do not replace an emergency plan. Call 911 for immediate danger and use the Sheriff’s main line for local victim-resource routing.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Victim Notification · DeKalb County Sheriff — Contact

Ask about current eligibility and wait lists

The Sheriff lists GED, educational resources, life skills, parenting, MRT, substance-use counseling, mental-health care, anger management, religious services and law-library/tablet access. Availability may depend on housing, sentence, staffing and schedule.

Ask the incarcerated person to submit the internal request and record the response. Family cannot enroll someone through a public form; volunteers use the Sheriff contact process.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Programs · DeKalb County Sheriff — Inmate Visitation

Prepare the first day without assuming a release time

Before pickup, confirm custody and door, then plan identification, weather-appropriate clothing, phone charge, medication continuity, transport and the first required court or supervision contact. Do not leave cash or medication at the lobby unless staff authorizes it.

For community help use Indiana 211, DFR, Northeastern Center and the United Way directory. Parkview DeKalb Hospital at 1316 E 7th St, 260-925-4600, has community emergency care; it is not the jail clinic.

Finding someone held here

Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything

Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
