  1. Confirm custody

Use VINE/MyCase, retain the case and call 260-724-5345.

  2. Match the owner

CPC for communications, JailATM for commissary, court/Clerk/Sheriff for bond.

  3. Confirm the last mile

Reserve Adams County Transit both directions and verify the public jail door.

PART 01

Confirm the adult Sheriff system

Separate the secure jail, Work Release and every outside system

Use the active adult Sheriff detention center at 911 West Peacekeepers Way

Adams County Sheriff’s Office & Detention Center is the adult county jail at 911 W. Peacekeepers Way, Decatur, IN 46733-0608. The Sheriff operates the jail; the main number is 260-724-5345. Current staff directory names Alex Will as Jail Commander and Cami Schultz as Matron.

The Sheriff also operates a Work Release building, but work release is a separate program and housing status. Community Corrections at 149 N. 1st Street, probation, courts, youth custody, municipal police, IDOC, BOP and ICE are not this adult jail.

Search VINE and the court case, then call when custody is unclear

Use Indiana VINE/VINELink for custody status and notification; use MyCase for the criminal case. Retain the exact name, booking/custody location, charge, court, case number, bond and any hold. VINE is the Sheriff’s published family lookup route, not proof that a person remains in the same bed minute by minute.

If no result appears, retry legal and prior names, spelling, hyphens and a shorter first name; allow for booking, release or transfer lag. Then call 260-724-5345. Use IDOC, BOP or ICE locators only after a transfer is indicated. Do not send money or mail from a third-party listing alone.

PART 02

Prepare for the county-linked CPC visit

Verify the age-uncertain schedule and unpublished exceptions

Treat the pod schedule as current-linked but confirm it before travel

The county’s live Sheriff page still links a public jail sheet that directs eligible family/friends to register through Combined Public Communications / InmateSales. It prints onsite hours of 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.: A-Pod and Work Release women Monday; C Tuesday; D Wednesday; E Thursday; F and Work Release men Friday; G Saturday; J/H Sunday; B-Pod no visitation.

The PDF identifies a former jail commander and does not state an issue/revision date. Call 260-724-5345 and confirm the person’s pod, eligibility, exact appointment process, duration and check-in cutoff before relying on the schedule.

Confirm ID, minors, dress, belongings and special visits directly

The reviewed county material does not publish acceptable IDs, minimum age, guardian documents, participant cap, dress, belongings, infant supplies, prior-incarceration restrictions, professional/long-distance visits or disability exceptions. Do not assume another Indiana jail’s rules.

Before registering, ask the jail for each participant’s requirements and whether an interpreter or disability modification is needed. Keep the name exactly as on the ID and do not bring unapproved property to the lobby.

Create the InmateSales account carefully and preserve failure evidence

Select the Adams County, Indiana facility and the correct person in InmateSales. Before a paid or scheduled session, test camera, microphone, speaker, browser permissions, connection, notifications and power. A displayed slot does not override jail eligibility, movement or lockdown.

If a session fails, save the account email/phone, resident name/ID, confirmation, date/time, device, browser and error screenshot. Contact InmateSales/CPC at 866-340-7879 or the current site’s 702-829-3001. The county does not publish local cancellation, no-show, credit or refund rules.

PART 03

Keep phone, mail and money separate

Match account, address, identifier and failure owner

Fund the right CPC ledger and troubleshoot blocks before paying again

The county sheet assigns CPC/InmateSales to phone time and Chirping and prints 866-340-7879. It distinguishes lobby kiosk colors: black for commissary funds, blue for phone time. Confirm the live account type and rate before funding.

For a failed call, check account balance, blocked/unknown calls, carrier spam controls, payment rejection, number changes, three-way/call-forwarding restrictions and facility availability. Keep the transaction and call time. Do not duplicate a payment while a first transaction is pending.

Call for the current personal-mail address before sending anything

No reviewed current official source publishes a personal-mail format, resident identifier, envelope/paper/card limits, scanning vendor, rejection notice or returned-original policy. The street address is not automatically a mailing address.

Call 260-724-5345 and obtain the exact recipient line and mailing destination. Confirm whether the sender needs a full return address and whether physical originals are returned, copied or destroyed. Never include money, medication or legal originals in unverified personal mail.

Sources: Adams County Sheriff’s Office · Adams County Sheriff staff directory

Do not mail books, photos or packages without local approval

The reviewed sources do not establish photo dimensions/count, publisher-only books, subscription rules, package vendors, greeting cards, photocopies or disposition of rejected items. Call the jail with the exact item, sender and vendor before purchase.

For a time-sensitive legal or medical document, use the responsible professional route. A retailer accepting an order does not prove the jail will accept delivery.

Sources: Adams County Sheriff’s Office · Adams County Sheriff — General Public Jail Information

Separate commissary, phone and bond payments

The county sheet assigns JailATM to commissary, CPC/InmateSales to phone/Chirping, and cash/credit card or GovPayNet to bond. At the lobby kiosk, black is commissary and blue is phone. Verify the person and target ledger before submitting.

JailATM says use at least four letters of the last name; if missing, get the resident ID from the jail. Keep the confirmation. JailATM publishes transaction history and says sales are generally final; contact 877-810-0914 or support@jailatm.com before duplicating a failed deposit.

PART 04

Protect health, safety and access

Relay urgent facts and preserve local gaps

Relay urgent health facts to the jail, not through monitored messaging

For an immediate threat, call 911; for a person already in custody, call 260-724-5345 and ask staff to relay an urgent factual message to medical. Provide name, date of birth, allergy, diagnosis, medication/dose, last dose, symptoms, prescriber/pharmacy and callback.

The county does not publish its medical contractor, sick-call process, copay, family clinical line, consent form or outside-care process. Jail staff may accept information without being able to disclose protected health information.

Sources: Adams County Sheriff’s Office · Adams County Sheriff staff directory · Adams County Health Department · Adams Memorial Hospital

Use a direct safety escalation for suicide, withdrawal or crisis

For suicidal statements, acute psychosis, dangerous withdrawal or a credible threat, call the jail immediately at 260-724-5345; use 911 for an active outside emergency. Quote the words/behavior, timing, substances, last use, prior attempts and known treatment.

Bowen Health publishes a 24-hour crisis service line and local community care, but it is not proven to be the jail contractor. Ask custody staff to document the report and route it to clinical personnel; request a welfare follow-up time without expecting private diagnoses.

Sources: Adams County Sheriff’s Office · Bowen Health · Adams Memorial Hospital

Use the limited county drop-off exceptions exactly as written—and reconfirm

The linked jail sheet permits exceptions to ordinary property hours for prescribed medications and jury-trial clothing up to three days before trial. It lists prescription contacts/glasses in soft cases, dentures, medically required prostheses and a wedding band with no stones as items not requiring prior approval; engagement rings are prohibited.

Because the sheet is age-uncertain, call before traveling. Ask what container, label, quantity, door and receiving hours apply. Do not put medication in mail or leave unaccepted items; the sheet says the jail assumes no responsibility for items left but not accepted.

Ask for the incarcerated grievance route and preserve every response

No public local source describes how an incarcerated person files, appeals or exhausts a grievance, available forms/kiosk access, emergency treatment, response deadlines or retaliation reporting. The person should request the current grievance procedure inside and retain dates, issue, people notified, receipt/number and response.

Family may send factual information to the Jail Commander, but a family call may not replace internal exhaustion. Ask 260-724-5345 who owns an overdue or inaccessible grievance and how accessibility/language barriers are documented.

Sources: Adams County Sheriff staff directory · Adams County Sheriff’s Office

Request jail access modifications separately from court or transit accommodations

Call the jail for a sign-language interpreter, communication aid, mobility access, accessible visit technology or other reasonable modification; document the request, need and response. The county does not publish a jail ADA coordinator or complaint route.

Courts use a separate language-access plan. Adams County Transit accepts reasonable-modification requests at 260-724-5316 and publishes wheelchair/ramp/lift-equipped vehicles. A transit accommodation does not create a jail-lobby accommodation.

Sources: Adams County Sheriff’s Office · Adams County Superior Court Language Access Plan · Adams County Transit ADA page · Adams County Transit service and rider rules · U.S. DOJ — ADA Title II

Report sexual abuse or retaliation immediately and ask how to report outside the chain

For immediate danger, contact jail staff/260-724-5345 or 911. Preserve the person’s exact words, date/time, location, alleged actor, witnesses, injury and retaliation concern; do not investigate or confront anyone yourself.

No reviewed local source publishes the PREA coordinator, anonymous/external reporting channel, third-party reporting procedure or investigation-status route. Ask the Jail Commander for those exact channels. Medical safety comes first; ordinary InmateSales messages are not a confidential PREA route.

PART 06

Plan the demand-response last mile

Reserve both legs and confirm the public door

Use 911 West Peacekeepers Way and confirm the public door

Navigate to 911 W. Peacekeepers Way, Decatur, IN 46733-0608, not the courthouse, Community Corrections or a police office. The county publishes administrative hours Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; it does not publish a visitor entrance name, security screening, lobby hours by task, parking lot, accessible parking or after-hours door.

Before driving, call 260-724-5345 for the correct public entrance and task-specific hours. Do not infer 24/7 visitor access from the jail sheet’s 24/7 kiosk statement.

Sources: Adams County Sheriff’s Office · Adams County Sheriff — General Public Jail Information · Adams County Sheriff staff directory

Reserve Adams County Transit; there is no fixed jail stop

Adams County Transit is countywide demand-response service for Adams County residents, not a fixed-route bus. Call 260-724-5316 Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; transportation operates Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–6 p.m. Request at least 24 hours ahead. Availability is first-come, first-served and not guaranteed.

Ask for 911 W. Peacekeepers Way, reserve both legs, list every passenger/stop and request mobility modifications. Vehicles have wheelchair/ramp/lift access and door-to-door service; the driver does not stay. The pickup window is 15 minutes before through 15 minutes after the time.

Sources: Adams County Council on Aging / Transit · Adams County Transit service and rider rules · Adams County Transit ADA page

Use seven planning dates as service-pattern checks, not reservations

The reviewed weekday pattern covers Wednesday September 30; Thursday October 1; Friday October 2; Monday October 5; Tuesday October 6; Wednesday October 7; and Thursday October 8, 2026. None is booked or guaranteed.

Confirm service, weather, fare, 30-minute pickup window, exact jail door and return pickup. The operator requires 24-hour advance notice when possible and recommends earlier notice; leaving without a booked return can strand a visitor.

PART 07

Keep related systems distinct

Work Release, supervision, youth, state and federal rules are separate

Keep Work Release rules separate from secure-jail rules

The Sheriff says it houses people in both the county jail and the Sheriff’s Work Release building. The linked sheet includes Work Release women with A-Pod Monday and Work Release men with F-Pod Friday for onsite video, but that does not establish identical intake, mail, money, property, release or movement rules.

Confirm whether the person is in secure detention or Work Release before applying any procedure. Community Corrections is separately located at 149 N. 1st Street and should not be treated as the Work Release building.

Sources: Adams County Sheriff’s Office · Adams County Sheriff — General Public Jail Information · Adams County Community Corrections

Keep Community Corrections, probation and pretrial offices out of the jail identity

Community Corrections at 149 N. 1st St. operates local alternatives to incarceration; Probation/Pretrial at 122 S. 3rd St. performs assessment and supervision. These offices may control conditions or reporting but are not the secure jail bed.

Use the exact court order to determine which office owns the next step. A person can have a jail record and a supervision obligation at the same time.

Sources: Adams County Community Corrections · Adams County Probation · Adams County Pretrial Services

Do not attach adult-jail rules to youth, state or federal custody

The reviewed sources do not establish a juvenile detention facility at Peacekeepers Way. Youth processes, IDOC prisons, federal prisons and ICE detention use separate locators and rules. Municipal police make arrests but do not become the county jail operator.

Confirm physical custody before visiting, paying or mailing. A federal or immigration hold may delay county release without converting the Adams County jail into a BOP or ICE facility.

Use VINE and Victim Assistance without exposing a survivor’s location

Register through Indiana VINE or call 866-959-8463 for custody notifications. The Adams County Prosecutor’s Victim Assistance Division is 260-724-5339. VINE is a notification tool, not an emergency warning system; call 911 for immediate danger.

Do not give an incarcerated person a survivor’s address, shelter, transit booking or phone. Confirm protection/no-contact orders in MyCase or with the court and keep notification records.

Finding someone held here

Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything

Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
