JAIL411 / FAMILY FIELD GUIDE

A practical guide to Forsyth County adult jail custody.

Sources reviewed

Current adult Sheriff county-jail custody and family services at 202 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Cumming, Georgia. Youth, Georgia prison, federal, municipal police/city jail, court, evidence and community-supervision systems remain separate.

  1. Confirm custody

Save the booked name and inmate number before paying, mailing or traveling.

  2. Match the channel

Use InmateSales for communications, JailATM for trust/packages, and the correct court/counsel office for the case.

  3. Confirm unpublished details

Call 770-781-2226 about visits, health, property, access, parking and release before acting.

PART 01

Find the person

Live custody, adult-jail identity and boundaries.

Confirm live custody before paying or traveling

  1. Use the Sheriff-linked inmate catalog. Search the exact legal name and likely spelling. Open the current record and retain the booked spelling, inmate number and any live housing, charge, bond or court details actually shown.
  2. If no record appears, slow down. Try a shorter surname, aliases and recent spelling variants. Ask the arresting agency whether booking is complete or the person went to another county, city, youth, state, federal or hospital destination.
  3. Call the jail. The current 24-hour line is 770-781-2226. Have full legal name, date of birth, arrest date/time and arresting agency ready; ask for current custody and the identifier required for mail, money and communications.

The catalog is live; this guide is not. Check again immediately before sending money, arranging a visit or traveling. VINE can send victim notifications but is not a substitute for a current custody check.

PART 02

Arrange a visit

Unpublished local rules, provider setup and access planning.

Do not travel until the jail confirms the local visit

The Sheriff labels InmateSales as the current visitation and communication route, but its current public page does not publish Forsyth-specific visiting days, session length, frequency, check-in cutoff, approval/list process, on-site versus remote availability, minors policy, ID alternatives, dress code, infant supplies, belongings, long-distance or special-visit exceptions.

  1. Confirm custody and inmate number at 770-781-2226.
  2. Ask whether the person may visit now, whether the session is on-site or remote, exact date/time, how early to arrive, who must be approved and what each adult and minor must bring.
  3. Repeat back the answer and note the staff unit, date and time. Do not rely on third-party schedules.
  4. Only then request access in InmateSales. Provider verification does not override a jail restriction or guarantee a slot.

Ask specifically about attorney, clergy, disability, hospitalization, disciplinary, protective-custody and distance exceptions. No exception is promised until jail staff approves it.

Build a visit checklist around the unanswered local rules

Questions to settle before leaving home
QuestionWhat to record
ScheduleDay, start time, duration, frequency, check-in cutoff and cancellation rule.
PeopleApproved-list status, adult ID, minor age/proof/guardian consent and maximum group size.
ScreeningDress, lockers, keys/phone, infant supplies and medical-device procedure.
ExceptionsProfessional, clergy, disability, long-distance or special visit; approving office and written confirmation.

Bring only what the jail expressly authorizes. A government-issued ID is a prudent preparation, but the Sheriff does not publish the acceptable-ID list or alternatives, so call before travel rather than treating that as the complete rule. If a child will attend, obtain the jail’s rule for proof of relationship/custody and consent; do not infer it from Georgia prison policy.

Set up InmateSales, then verify the Forsyth schedule

  1. Create an account at InmateSales or in its app; add the exact facility and inmate only after confirming the live record.
  2. Request video access. The provider says verification requires an access request. Its general setup is account, app and payment method.
  3. Before a paid session, test camera, microphone, speaker, connection and the name on the account. Forsyth’s lead time, price, length and cancellation/refund rule are not published.
  4. For a failed login, verify phone and email. For “token invalid,” contact video support to reset credentials. Save screenshots, transaction ID and session time.

InmateSales support is 877-998-5678 (provider says 24/7 except reduced holiday hours and closed Thanksgiving/Christmas). Video scheduling is 866-340-7879, Monday–Friday 8:30 a.m.–6 p.m. CST and Saturday 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m. CST. Ask the jail whether a disrupted session is rescheduled or credited; the provider FAQ does not establish a Forsyth remedy.

Arrange jail access before the trip

The current Sheriff pages do not identify an accessible visitor entrance, drop-off, parking space, screening accommodation, interpreter route, mobility-device rule or local ADA coordinator for the jail. Call 770-781-2226 before travel and describe the functional need: step-free path, wheelchair space, ASL or spoken-language interpretation, extra screening time, communication aid, service animal or medication/device handling.

Ask which entrance to use and who will meet the visitor. Record the response. The Access Forsyth bus accessibility rules govern the ride only; they do not prove that a jail entrance or visit room is accessible. If local resolution fails, the U.S. DOJ ADA complaint route is an outside option, not emergency assistance.

PART 03

Stay connected

Separate communications, mail, packages and trust funds.

Keep communication money and commissary money separate

Two providers, different purposes
AccountUseFailure route
InmateSalesPhone, video and other communications offered for this jail. Direct Pay limits calling funds to one number; PIN Debit lets the inmate call any number.877-998-5678; keep the transaction ID.
JailATMCommissary deposits and Sheriff-approved care packages.Use provider history/receipt, then call 770-781-2226 if money is missing.

Do not assume funds move between these providers or from one person/facility to another. Confirm the inmate name/number and facility on the final screen. A release or transfer does not automatically create a refund; InmateSales requires the transaction ID for a refund/transfer request, and JailATM says facility policy controls commissary balances.

Prepare for outgoing calls and common failures

The Sheriff directs families to InmateSales. Create the account, select the exact Forsyth County Jail record and person, then choose the account that matches the goal: Direct Pay for calls to one phone number or PIN Debit for calls the person can place to any number. Forsyth-specific call hours, approved-number rules, recording notices, call length and rate are not published on the reviewed local page; read the amount shown before paying.

  • Missed calls cannot simply be returned to the jail phone system; wait for another outgoing call.
  • If a card declines, call InmateSales at 877-998-5678 or the card issuer.
  • If verification fails, recheck phone and email. If calls will not connect, ask support about blocks and the jail about local restrictions.
  • For release/transfer, keep the transaction ID; the provider says it is required for a refund/transfer request.

Use the Atlanta scan address only for personal correspondence

Address ordinary personal correspondence exactly:

JailATM.com – Forsyth County Jail
Inmate Name / Inmate Number
925-B Peachtree St, NE – Box 2062
Atlanta, GA 30309

Confirm the live name and number first. The Sheriff says bulk mail—such as copies of internet sites or numerous large scanned copies—is not accepted. It does not publish current rules for photos, cards, paper/envelope color, page count, drawings or rejection notice/original disposal. Ask before enclosing anything beyond a plain letter.

Never send legal mail to the scan address. Attorney-of-record legal mail remains accepted at the facility only when clearly marked “Private Legal Mail” with inmate name and cell location. Confirm the physical legal-mail format with the jail; a cell location can change. Personal correspondence mixed into legal/business mail will be destroyed. Signature forms should be arranged through the front-lobby attendant or shift supervisor when possible.

Sources: Forsyth Sheriff: bond, InmateSales, mail, JailATM and programs · Forsyth Sheriff: live inmate catalog

Do not send books, photos or outside packages without confirmation

The Sheriff publishes only one approved outside package route: care packages ordered through JailATM. A person may receive one such care package per week, and the Jail Administrator sets a dollar limit; the housed person should check with the housing deputy. No other outside commissary package is approved.

No current local rule was found for books, magazines, publisher/retailer shipment, photos, greeting cards or rejected-item return. Call 770-781-2226 with the exact item, sender and vendor before ordering. The Sheriff expressly says mailed smoking/vaping items will not be returned and contraband is destroyed; do not generalize that sentence into a complete rejection policy for other property.

Sources: Forsyth Sheriff: bond, InmateSales, mail, JailATM and programs · JailATM: official deposit and package transaction portal

Deposit by lobby kiosk or JailATM and save proof

  1. Confirm the person and inmate number in the live catalog.
  2. At the jail, the lobby kiosk accepts cash, credit and debit cards. Online, create a JailATM account, choose “send money now,” and verify the facility/person before confirming.
  3. Save the receipt and review My Account → Deposit/Charge History. JailATM says most deposits arrive within 24–48 hours.
  4. If missing after 48 hours, call the jail to start an investigation; JailATM says it investigates after the facility cannot resolve it within 72 business hours.

Provider fees and facility limits appear in the transaction flow; the Sheriff does not publish a local deposit cap. For a wrong person or duplicate deposit, contact the jail immediately before funds are spent. JailATM says spent deposits cannot be transferred/refunded, all sales are final except specific issue procedures, and it cannot itself move commissary funds between facilities.

PART 04

Get there

Correct destination, reserved county transit and practical stops.

Use the right lobby and do not assume a parking space

The verified destination is 202 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Cumming, GA 30040. For bonding, the Sheriff specifically directs users to the bonding window inside the jail’s main lobby, at the Veterans Memorial intersection. That statement does not prove the visit, legal-mail, property or release entrance.

No current official source reviewed authorizes a particular visitor lot, garage, curb, accessible drop-off, overnight waiting area or release pickup point. Ask 770-781-2226 which entrance and parking area correspond to the task. Do not use courthouse parking instructions as jail instructions, and do not wait on a roadway or in a lot not confirmed for public jail use.

Access Forsyth is reserved origin-to-destination service, not a bus stop

Forsyth County has no fixed Access Forsyth route or stop at the jail. The current service is countywide demand response for residents, from origin to destination. New riders register and schedule at 770-781-2195; returning riders may use the Ecolane portal/app. Reservations are first-come, first-served up to 14 days ahead; same-day reservations and changes are not accepted.

Scheduling hours are Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Current one-way fare is $3 per person, exact change; extra stops are $3 if time permits. Ask whether 202 Veterans Memorial Boulevard is accepted for the requested trip and specify the entrance staff gives you. These are calendar-derived service windows, not reservations, pickup times or live vehicle availability.

Why some official documents show different hours and $2

An older Dial-A-Ride PDF still says 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m. and $2. The current Access Forsyth page says 7 a.m.–6 p.m. and $3, so this guide uses the current page. Confirm when booking.

PART 05

Protect wellbeing

Health escalation, grievances, disability access and PREA.

Route urgent facts to custody staff; expect privacy limits

The current Sheriff jail pages reviewed do not publish a family medical line, current health contractor, sick-call form, medication drop-off rule, mental-health escalation, records authorization, glasses/contact-lens procedure or release prescription process.

  1. For an immediate life-threatening emergency, call 911 and identify the Forsyth County Jail and person; also call the jail at 770-781-2226 and ask for the shift supervisor.
  2. For urgent but non-911 information, give booked name/inmate number, condition, medication name/dose, last dose, allergies, prescriber/pharmacy and callback. Ask staff to deliver it to medical; do not ask an incarcerated person to stop or share medication.
  3. Before bringing medication, glasses, contacts or equipment, obtain exact acceptance, original-label, timing and entrance instructions. No drop-off is promised.
  4. Ask what consent/release form the patient must sign before staff can discuss care. Privacy may allow receipt of information without allowing disclosure back.

For community crisis planning after release, Georgia’s GCAL is 800-715-4225 and 988 is call/text. Those services do not replace jail medical response.

Separate an inmate grievance from an outside employee complaint

No current public Forsyth jail source reviewed describes the inmate grievance form, informal step, appeal, deadline, emergency grievance, retaliation protection, medical grievance or ADA request/appeal. The housed person should ask a housing deputy how to obtain and submit the jail grievance and how to keep a receipt/copy. Families can call 770-781-2226 for the shift supervisor and ask how a third party may document a concern.

The Sheriff links a Police-to-Citizen employee complaint/compliment portal. It may document staff conduct but is not labeled as the inmate grievance, medical appeal or PREA channel. Record dates, names, prior requests and requested remedy; keep health/legal facts focused and do not post sensitive records publicly. For disability access, ask first for the jail accommodation route; the federal DOJ ADA complaint page is an outside escalation, not emergency help.

Sources: Forsyth Sheriff: current jail identity and hours · Forsyth Sheriff: employee complaint or compliment · U.S. DOJ: file an ADA complaint

Demand the local PREA route; do not substitute a generic hotline

Sexual abuse or harassment in custody is urgent. Tell any jail staff member, medical staff member or shift supervisor and request immediate separation/protection and medical attention. A family member or attorney may make a third-party report. If there is immediate danger, call 911 and the jail’s 24-hour line, 770-781-2226.

Federal jail standards require a reporting method, an outside reporting option and a publicly distributed third-party method. However, the current Forsyth Sheriff pages reviewed do not publish the local PREA coordinator, outside entity, anonymous channel, third-party form/number, evidence-preservation instructions, victim-advocate contact or recent audit. Ask the shift supervisor for the exact local and outside channels and whether anonymity is available. Do not present another Georgia facility’s hotline as Forsyth’s.

Sources: Forsyth Sheriff: current jail identity and hours · DOJ PREA Resource Center: reporting standard 115.51 · DOJ PREA Resource Center: third-party reporting standard 115.54

Treat published programs as opportunities, not enrollment promises

The Sheriff lists church services, GED, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, transition classes, Pups with Purpose, litter detail and RSAT. Transition topics include anger management, parenting, budgeting, listening, interviewing and job preparation. Eligibility, schedule, waitlist, completion records and credit are not published.

The housed person should ask the housing/program deputy what is currently operating, who qualifies and how to request enrollment. Families should not promise placement. Pups with Purpose and litter detail are selective work/program assignments; RSAT targets high-risk/high-need people with substance-use history but publication does not establish individual eligibility.

PART 06

Court and coming home

Counsel, bond, property, release and reentry.

Track the case separately from the jail record

  1. Use the live inmate record for current custody/hold information actually displayed.
  2. Use the Forsyth Clerk’s reSearchGa link for Superior/State case records; registration is required. The daily docket covers the following court day but is not a release promise.
  3. Call the Clerk at 770-781-2120 with case number for filing/docket questions. Magistrate Court is a separate office; do not assume a schedule from another county.
  4. For counsel, contact the attorney directly. Forsyth Indigent Defense is 678-513-5959; inmates may call it free or use JailATM. A duty attorney is present at first appearance Monday–Saturday, including most holidays.

Family members should not use recorded communications to discuss facts of the case. The Indigent Defense Office says it discusses case matters only with the defendant or attorney.

Choose the bond method only after checking holds and exact amount

Call the jail’s published bond contact, 770-781-2227 (24/7 on the bond page), or Bond Administrator 770-781-3053 Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Ask for each charge, bond type/amount, fees, court restrictions, holds and acceptable tender. A paid bond does not defeat another hold.

Officially published Forsyth bond paths
MethodKey rule
Approved companyUse the Sheriff’s current list. Staff cannot recommend a company; Georgia law allows the company to charge up to 15% of total bond.
CashU.S. currency; government-issued ID. Overpayment goes to the inmate account and is returned at release by debit card or check.
Credit/debitAccepted; Sheriff publishes a nonrefundable 10% convenience fee. Card must belong to the person listed as security.
PropertyReal property only; equity/document rules apply. No personal property or out-of-state property. Out-of-county packet must remain sealed.

Money orders and business/personal checks are not accepted for bond. Complete the process at the main-lobby bonding window. Cash-bond disbursement after adjudication is handled by the Clerk, usually mailed in 2–3 weeks according to the Sheriff; call 770-781-2120 with questions.

Confirm whether the item is jail property or case evidence

No current official jail page reviewed publishes inmate property release authorization, eligible recipient ID, pickup schedule, inventory dispute, abandoned-property period or release of clothing/keys/phone. Call 770-781-2226 with booked name/inmate number and ask for the property process, form, pickup entrance and hours before traveling.

Property held at booking is different from evidence held by an arresting/investigating agency. Ask which agency has each item and obtain a case/property number. The Sheriff’s mail page says signature-required business/administrative forms should be arranged through the front-lobby attendant or shift supervisor when possible; that is not blanket authorization for property pickup.

Sources: Forsyth Sheriff: current jail identity and hours · Forsyth Sheriff: bond, InmateSales, mail, JailATM and programs

Plan pickup without relying on a predicted release time

A bond payment, court ruling or roster change is not a guaranteed door time. Before leaving home, ask 770-781-2226 whether all charges and outside holds are cleared, whether paperwork/transport remains, which release door is used and whether staff can give a current pickup window. The jail publishes no release entrance, waiting area, property handoff, late-night procedure or transportation service.

The person should confirm personal property, remaining commissary funds, communication refunds, medication/prescription plan, next court date and supervision instructions before leaving. InmateSales requires the transaction ID for a release/transfer refund request. JailATM says commissary balance handling depends on facility policy; ask the jail rather than promising cash, check or card.

Finding someone held here

Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
