DeKalb County Jail family guide

Sources reviewed

DeKalb County Sheriff's adult jail at 4425 Memorial Drive only; youth, state, federal and municipal facilities remain separate.

  1. Find the person

Use the current-inmates index, not a court case alone.

  2. Choose the account

Phone, video, messaging and trust funds are separate.

  3. Use the right destination

Personal mail, legal mail, jail, court and youth addresses differ.

  4. Confirm before travel

Family video is remote; entrances and parking remain case-specific.

PART 01

Find the person and correct facility

Custody lookup and adult/youth/state boundaries.

Confirm current custody before using a case record

Use the Sheriff homepage’s Inmate Lookup. The current screen is labeled All current inmates and accepts a name or inmate ID. Optional controls filter by arrest-date range, age range and arresting agency; results show the name/ID, arrest date and time, age and arresting agency. Save the exact inmate ID before paying or mailing.

The separate Tyler judicial portal searches court records and hearings. A court case is not proof that the person remains in this jail. If the current-inmates search returns zero results, remove optional filters, confirm the spelling or ID, then call the 24-hour jail line at 404-298-8145. Ask whether booking is still processing or whether the person was released or transferred; a zero-result page alone does not answer that question. The old /app/ViewJailing/ route displayed “Page not found” during this review and should not be linked.

Use the jail address, not the executive-office address

DeKalb County Jail Services is the Sheriff’s adult detention operation at 4425 Memorial Drive, Decatur, GA 30032. The general information line is 404-298-8145 and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Executive Offices at 4415 Memorial Drive are a separate destination; an older mail block on the Sheriff site also uses 4415, so do not treat every Memorial Drive address as interchangeable.

This guide does not cover DeKalb RYDC or Metro RYDC, which are Georgia youth facilities, or Helms, Metro Transitional Center or the former Metro State Prison identity, which belong to the state system. Chamblee and Doraville municipal records require their own status check. Confirm the current custodian before applying any rule below.

PART 02

Visits, calls and account help

Remote-only family video, approval, failures and product conflicts.

Friends and family visit remotely—not in the jail lobby

Friends and family currently have no onsite video visits. Create an account through the DeKalb ViaPath portal, wait for approval and schedule online at least 24 hours in advance. Telephone scheduling is unavailable, and the visitor must be on the incarcerated person’s approved visitation list.

The Sheriff posts three 30-minute remote visits per week, daily during 8:00–11:30 a.m. and 4:00–9:20 p.m., at $0.19 per minute. Those are remote-video windows, not permission to enter the facility. The general vendor change began January 5, 2026, while the Sheriff’s separate ViaPath video-visitation procedure began January 26, 2026.

Sources: Sheriff current ViaPath visitation rules · Sheriff alerts index · Sheriff new vendor and service transition notice

Set up the remote visit in the correct order

  1. Confirm the person still appears in the current-inmates search and save the inmate ID.
  2. Create the ViaPath/GTLVisitMe account linked by DeKalb and complete the provider’s approval steps.
  3. Add the correct incarcerated person and confirm that you are on the approved list.
  4. Choose one of the offered DeKalb times at least 24 hours ahead and verify the time zone shown before confirming.
  5. Before the appointment, test the current site/app’s camera, microphone and network permissions. The Sheriff says an internet-enabled computer or smartphone may be used; it does not publish a current browser/operating-system matrix.

Do not rely on old generic ViaPath language about onsite visits or free quotas: DeKalb’s current Sheriff page controls and says no onsite family video.

Sources: Sheriff current ViaPath visitation rules · Sheriff linked ViaPath account/video flyer · Sheriff-linked current inmate records search

Approval, clothing, children and restricted housing

The Sheriff says visitors must dress appropriately and behave acceptably; violations may restrict access. Ordinary visits are recorded and electronically monitored, while attorney and clergy visits are excepted from that statement. The Sheriff also states that people in maximum-security or mental-health housing cannot have visitors and that special accommodations may be arranged at intake. Confirm how either statement applies to the person’s present housing before paying.

The reviewed DeKalb pages do not list accepted photo IDs or alternatives, a detailed clothing code, rules for children or guardians, infant participation, interpreter arrangements, disability-access contacts, or the procedure for requesting a special visit. GettingOut’s terms say service users are intended to be over 18, but that does not establish whether a child may appear during an adult account holder’s approved remote visit. Call 404-298-8145 for the local rule; do not create a child account or promise participation without confirmation.

When a visit will not schedule, starts late or fails

If no appointment appears, first check approval, current custody and available funds. GettingOut lists three common causes: the person is not allowed visits, you are not an approved contact, or the prepaid balance is insufficient. If the incarcerated person does not appear, the provider lists release, suspended privileges, treatment/court, lack of notice, or an early login as possible causes. Log out and back in once; if the session remains unavailable, call GettingOut at 866-516-0115.

You can join late, but the clock begins at the scheduled time. To cancel, use the account Calendar. The provider’s cancellation page does not state whether a cancellation is charged, and no DeKalb-specific cancellation deadline or failed-session refund rule was found. Save the reservation/session ID, receipt, account email, date/time and error message before contacting support. Do not promise a credit. For a ConnectNetwork charge or call issue, customer service is 877-650-4249; its current policy says dropped wireless calls are not routinely refunded and are investigated at the call origin.

Choose the phone account by who controls the money

The Sheriff currently posts a $0.10-per-minute housing-unit telephone rate and no charge for calls to legal services. The DeKalb ConnectNetwork facility profile confirms two phone products:

  • AdvancePay is a prepaid collect account tied to the friend/family member’s telephone number. Automated funding: 800-483-8314.
  • PIN Debit places phone money with the incarcerated person for calls to numbers the facility permits. A PIN Debit deposit becomes that person’s property.

The public may fund calls but cannot place an incoming call to the housing unit. Facility-specific taxes, deposit fees, minimums, international availability, blocked-number procedures and call-length limits were not published in the reviewed DeKalb sources. Confirm the amount in the account before submitting payment.

Sources: Sheriff current ViaPath visitation rules · ViaPath ConnectNetwork facility profile for DeKalb County GA · ViaPath ConnectNetwork AdvancePay explanation · ViaPath ConnectNetwork PIN Debit explanation

The Sheriff’s phone sheets disagree—use the product label

The January transition notice and DeKalb’s current facility profile list 888-428-1845 for PIN Debit/ConnectNetwork, while the January video flyer and ViaPath’s generic contact page list 855-706-2445. The May 2026 DeKalb lobby flyer again lists 888-428-1845. Use the phone number printed beside the exact product in your DeKalb account or receipt; if the payment route is unclear, use general ConnectNetwork support at 877-650-4249.

The January notice also warned that prior-vendor balances would not transfer into the new ViaPath services. The reviewed sources do not explain how a remaining pre-January-2026 balance can now be claimed. AdvancePay publishes a refund process when the account is no longer needed, and PIN Debit says unused money is refunded on release, but DeKalb’s timing and delivery method are not stated.

PART 03

Mail, books, money and supplies

Separate addresses and account purposes.

Send personal mail to the Phoenix scanning address

The Sheriff’s new bilingual notice directs personal letters, photographs and drawings to a scanning center for digital delivery on the tablet. Address the envelope exactly:

DeKalb County Jail, GA
Full name, inmate identifier
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131

Write the sender’s full name and physical return address. Do not abbreviate the facility name or omit the state, person’s full name or identifier. Delivery problems go to info@TextBehind.com. Confirm current custody and the identifier before mailing.

Sources: Sheriff bilingual personal-mail scanning notice · Sheriff inmate support services · Sheriff-linked current inmate records search

A current scanning notice conflicts with the older postcard rule

The digital-mail notice allows personal letters, pictures and drawings. On the same Sheriff support page, an older rule effective July 1, 2012 still says all nonlegal incoming and outgoing mail must be a white, prestamped or metered postcard between 3½ × 4¼ inches and 4¼ × 6 inches, written only in blue or black ink, with no adhesive stamp, plastic, wrapping, paint, crayon, marker, labels, stickers, watermarks, stains, perfume, lipstick, nudity, weapons or gang references.

Those instructions cannot both be applied literally to a personal letter. The Sheriff links the digital notice as the current “Sending mail” quick link, but it does not publish photo quantity/size, color rules, original-retention/destruction timing, rejection notice, appeal rights or whether every 2012 postcard restriction survives scanning. For anything beyond the notice’s letters/pictures/drawings, call 404-298-8145 before mailing. Do not send irreplaceable originals.

Sources: DeKalb County Sheriff home and current Inmate Lookup handoff · Sheriff bilingual personal-mail scanning notice · Sheriff inmate support services · Sheriff contact and jail operations

Legal mail, books and packages need separate routing

Do not send attorney-client privileged mail, checks or money orders to the Phoenix scanning address. The reviewed official sources do not publish a current legal-mail address, attorney marking requirements, hand-delivery procedure or legal-mail rejection appeal. Counsel or the sender should confirm the current legal-mail route with Jail Services at 404-298-8145.

The Sheriff states that books ordered through Amazon are no longer accepted and must come from retail bookstores, giving Books-A-Million and Barnes & Noble as examples. The page does not publish the receiving address, paperback/hardcover rule, new/used rule, size/quantity limits, invoice requirement, subscription rules or a complete approved-vendor list. No family package program was found. Confirm every book or package before purchase; a retailer’s ability to ship does not establish jail approval.

Trust/commissary money is separate from phone and tablet money

Commissary accounts are established at intake and can buy additional food, personal items and games. Authorized people may deposit. The Sheriff says remaining commissary-account balances are refunded on release. Use the TouchPay Trust/Commissary route shown on the May 2026 DeKalb flyer or the lobby kiosk—not AdvancePay, PIN Debit, tablet or messaging—when the purpose is store money.

ViaPath’s general help says trust/commissary deposits may take up to 72 hours to post depending on the facility; this is not a DeKalb guarantee. Keep the confirmation number and wait for the product-specific posting window before paying twice. DeKalb’s exact deposit fee, daily/transaction limit, cash-kiosk change policy, chargeback procedure, deductions and release-balance method/timing are not published. TouchPay support: 866-232-1899.

What the jail supplies—and what “indigent” does not yet explain

The Sheriff says each person receives a hygiene kit, shoes and appropriate clothing, with laundry or replacement as needed. Barber service is normally paid by the incarcerated person but is not charged when the person is deemed indigent. The housing-unit monitors can be used to order commissary and other services.

The public source does not define the indigent balance threshold or waiting period, list replacement hygiene or writing supplies, explain postage/legal-copy allowances, or say whether an indigent debt is collected from later deposits. It also does not describe a family package alternative. The incarcerated person should use the housing monitor or written internal request; family can ask Jail Services at 404-298-8145 what current policy applies without assuming eligibility.

PART 04

Health, grievances and safety

Internal care requests, family escalation, OPS and PREA.

Medical care, prescriptions and a family health concern

The jail says intake screening, medical, dental and mental-health care, prescribed pharmaceuticals, nutritional supplements, chronic-care discharge planning and in-house dialysis are available. A person in custody can request care confidentially through an electronic monitor in the housing unit or in writing.

  1. For a routine need, tell the person to submit a confidential health request from the housing unit or in writing. Family cannot submit that internal request for them.
  2. For an urgent concern, call the 24-hour Jail General Information Hotline at 404-298-8145. The Sheriff's contact directory also lists an Inmate Family Hotline at 404-298-8090. State that the call concerns an urgent health or safety issue and provide the person's full name and inmate identifier. These are general/family lines, not published clinical hotlines; ask that the information be routed to jail health staff.
  3. Have the exact medication name, dose, prescriber, pharmacy and time of the last dose ready. Do not take medicine, eyeglasses or medical equipment to the jail unless jail health staff first gives case-specific instructions. The Sheriff publishes no public drop-off process for those items.
  4. The Sheriff does not publish a family authorization form, medical-record-release procedure, health-vendor direct number or outside-provider fax. A family member should not expect protected clinical details without the patient's authorization. Ask the jail what authorization its current health contractor requires.

Still unresolved: No public medical-command number or written urgent-family escalation path was located. No current public rules were located for outside prescriptions, eyeglass delivery, durable medical equipment or release of jail medical records.

Medical grievances, staff complaints and PREA reports

Keep the channels separate. A person in custody may send a medical grievance through the housing-unit kiosk. A complaint about staff may be sent to the Office of Professional Standards. A sexual-abuse or sexual-harassment report may be made through the jail's PREA channels, including by a third party.

  1. For a medical grievance, use the inmate kiosk in the housing unit. The Sheriff's public material does not give the ordinary medical-grievance deadline, response time, appeal steps or emergency-medical grievance procedure.
  2. For an employee complaint, contact the Office of Professional Standards at 404-298-8125, ops@dekalbcountyga.gov, or 4415 Memorial Drive, Decatur, GA 30032. The official comment form says a complainant does not have to identify themselves unless they want a response.
  3. For sexual abuse, sexual harassment or retaliation, notify any Sheriff's staff member, call the PREA Hotline at 404-298-8109, or contact the Office of Professional Standards at 404-298-8125, in person or by mail at 4415 Memorial Drive, Decatur, GA 30032. A family member or other third party may report for a person in custody.
  4. Federal jail PREA standards do not allow a time limit for a grievance alleging sexual abuse. They call for an initial response within 48 hours and a final decision within 5 calendar days for an emergency grievance alleging substantial risk of imminent sexual abuse. Those federal deadlines are different from the unpublished deadline for an ordinary jail grievance.

Still unresolved: The Sheriff's public site does not state the deadline, response time or appeal path for a non-PREA grievance. The public material does not identify a separate outside confidential advocacy number used by this jail.

PART 05

Court, bond, property and release

Hearing times, counsel, payment, refunds and reentry.

Which DeKalb court is handling the case

The first appearance starts in Magistrate Court, but the charging level determines the later court. Magistrate Court handles warrants, first appearances, bond questions at first appearance and preliminary probable-cause hearings. Superior Court handles felony cases. State Court handles misdemeanor, DUI and traffic cases.

  1. Magistrate Court Criminal Division is at 3630 Camp Circle, Decatur, GA 30032; criminal-division phone 404-294-2150. Misdemeanor first appearances are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. every day. Felony first appearances are scheduled at 1:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  2. At first appearance, the judge explains the charges, silence and counsel rights, addresses bond and release conditions when legally permitted, and explains a future commitment or preliminary hearing. This is not a trial and the judge does not decide whether to dismiss the charge.
  3. A preliminary hearing asks whether there is enough probable cause to support the warrant. It is not the felony trial. The Magistrate Court says these hearings generally occur weekday mornings and afternoons.
  4. Superior Court handles felony criminal cases. Its Criminal Department is on the ground floor, Room 210, DeKalb County Courthouse, 556 North McDonough Street, Decatur, GA 30030; 404-371-2836; Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
  5. State Court handles misdemeanors and traffic matters including DUI. Division A is at 556 North McDonough Street, Decatur, GA 30030; 404-371-2261. Division B is at 3630 Camp Circle, Decatur, GA 30032; 404-294-2099. Check the case record or notice before choosing a building.

Still unresolved: The published first-appearance page does not state a felony Sunday session. Hearing location can differ from the court that ultimately receives the case; the current docket controls.

Sources: First Appearance Hearings · Preliminary Hearings · Judicial System · Division A: Civil Division and Criminal Division · Criminal Department and Contact

Counsel and the DeKalb Public Defender

The Magistrate Court says Public Defender and prosecution attorneys are generally present at first appearances. A person who cannot afford counsel may apply to the DeKalb Circuit Public Defender; eligibility is not automatic merely because the person is in jail.

  1. Apply through the county's online public-defender application or request the paper form from the Law Office of the Public Defender, 320 Church Street, Decatur, GA 30030.
  2. The office phone is 404-371-2222 and hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
  3. The application lists a $50 application fee. The court must waive that fee if it finds the person cannot pay or the charge would cause hardship. The form also warns that attorney fees may be imposed at sentencing.
  4. When contacting the office, provide the person's full legal name, date of birth, booking identifier if known, charge and next court date. Do not send case strategy or privileged facts through a public contact form.

Still unresolved: The public sources do not explain the jail-to-public-defender interview request procedure or how quickly counsel meets a newly booked client. The published sources do not provide a family status line for a pending application.

Sources: First Appearance Hearings · Circuit Public Defender · Georgia Public Defender Standards Council Application for Public Defender Services

Bond: first confirm the order, then choose the method

The court sets the amount and release conditions. DeKalb accepts cash bond, an authorized professional bonding company or a qualifying property bond. The Jail Bonding Office is at 4425 Memorial Drive, Decatur, GA 30032; 404-298-8195; 7:00 a.m.-11:59 p.m. daily, including weekends and holidays.

  1. Confirm the current bond amount, every active charge and whether a judge has authority to set bond. At first appearance, the Magistrate judge addresses bond unless legally precluded; if the judge cannot or will not set it, the person is told how to request bond in Superior Court.
  2. For a cash bond, bring the full face amount plus required penalties in a form the Sheriff accepts: United States currency, cashier's check, traveler's check, U.S. Postal Service money order or Western Union money order. Personal checks are not accepted.
  3. The Sheriff lists a nonrefundable $20 fee on all bonds. An authorized professional bonding company may charge 12% when the bond is $10,000 or less and 15% when it is more than $10,000. The Sheriff's page says that fee is generally nonrefundable and lists the companies authorized in DeKalb County without recommending one.
  4. For a property bond, every deed owner must appear unless a legally executed power of attorney applies. Bring state-issued ID, a certified recorded deed, the current property-tax statement, and a recent mortgage statement or certified cancellation of the security deed. The Sheriff lists a $20 property-bond-form fee plus a $7.50 property-affidavit fee, collected in cash. Probate documents may be required if an owner has died.
  5. A bond posted does not guarantee immediate release. The public source gives no processing-time promise and does not describe how other-county, state, federal or immigration holds affect release. Confirm the person has actually cleared custody before arranging pickup.

Still unresolved: No official same-day release-time estimate is published. The public pages do not enumerate charges for which only Superior Court can set bond or explain hold-clearance order.

Sources: First Appearance Hearings · Bonding and Inmate Services

Recovering cash or clearing a property bond after the case

Bond return happens after the case is settled; it is not processed at release. The person who posted the bond, called the surety, must complete the return steps.

  1. For a cash bond, the surety obtains a Bond Release Form from the District Attorney for a felony or the Solicitor-General for a misdemeanor, then appears at the Sheriff's Civil Process Unit, Room B110, 556 North McDonough Street, Decatur, GA 30030. Hours are weekdays 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., excluding weekends and holidays. Bring valid state-issued ID and the white bond receipt; the unit can supply a copy of the receipt.
  2. A professional bonding-company fee is not returned by the Sheriff. Ask the company about its own refund policy.
  3. For a property bond, the Sheriff says no lien is placed when the bond is less than $10,000; a lien is placed when it is $10,000 or more. After the case is settled, obtain the Notice of Bond from the Superior Court Real Estate Office, obtain the required release through the District Attorney, and take the Notice of Bond, Release of Property Bond and valid ID to the Civil Process Unit.

Still unresolved: The Sheriff does not publish a processing-time estimate for the cash refund check or property-lien release.

Sources: Bonding and Inmate Services

Personal property and release pickup

During the first seven (7) days of incarceration, a person may sign a release authorizing someone to collect personal property in an emergency. The Sheriff lists public pickup Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., after the signed release is completed.

  1. Call 404-298-8145 before traveling. The support-services page places the pickup instruction beneath 4415 Memorial Drive, while the current contact page identifies Jail Operations at 4425 Memorial Drive. Ask which entrance and address currently handles property release.
  2. Do not assume the jail will release every item or accept an authorization after seven (7) days; the public page does not list item restrictions, required pickup ID or exceptions.
  3. The Sheriff says the balance of an inmate commissary account is refunded on release, but does not state whether the refund is cash, check or another form.
  4. For release notification, the Sheriff directs users to register with VINE. VINE is a notification aid, not a promise of the exact exit time. The Sheriff does not publish a release entrance, pickup waiting area, release hours or procedure for a person with another agency hold.

Still unresolved: Current property-pickup address and entrance conflict between two Sheriff's pages. No public release-pickup procedure, release-hour estimate, hold/transfer workflow or required pickup identification was located.

Sources: Inmate Support Services · Contact Us · Public Services / VINE

Start reentry calls before release when possible

Jail programs and community services have different eligibility rules. A jail program listing does not guarantee enrollment, and a community referral does not guarantee a bed, appointment or financial assistance.

  1. The jail's START program is a free 90-day program aimed at people with felony drug-abuse charges and repeat-offense histories; participation may be voluntary or court ordered. The Sheriff says continued counseling and treatment after release are available through the organization formerly called the DeKalb Community Service Board, now Claratel Behavioral Health.
  2. For behavioral-health, substance-use or crisis-support access after release, call Claratel Central Access at 404-892-4646. Its separate crisis-center number is 404-294-0499. These contacts are for community services, not the jail medical unit.
  3. For homelessness screening and referral in DeKalb County, call DeKalb Coordinated Entry at 404-687-3500. The county describes this as the primary assessment and referral point; it does not promise immediate shelter or placement.
  4. The Georgia Department of Community Supervision lists Decatur Cooperative Ministry as a DeKalb reentry resource at 404-377-5365. Confirm the service, intake rules and current physical location before traveling because the state listing provides only a P.O. box.
  5. For state reentry-resource help, the Department of Community Supervision lists 678-783-4337, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and reentryservicesinfo@dcs.ga.gov. Supervision requirements and the release order control; a community provider cannot change them.

Still unresolved: The jail does not publish a general discharge-planning contact, release-day transportation program, identification-document process, clothing issue or medication-supply duration. No county source promises emergency lodging on the day of release.

Plan a necessary trip

Correct destinations, dated MARTA service and practical contacts.

Most family visits are remote now

The Sheriff's current visitation page says friends and family do not have on-site video visits. Ordinary family visits use ViaPath online; a visitor must be on the incarcerated person's approved list, register online and schedule at least 24 hours ahead. Do not make a jail trip for an ordinary family video visit.

A trip to the jail may still be necessary for a bond, an authorized property pickup or another service the jail has confirmed. Call the Jail General Information Hotline at 404-298-8145 before leaving when the purpose, entrance or required documents are uncertain.

Blue Line to Kensington, then Route 121 or 125

  1. Take MARTA's Blue Line to Kensington Station, 3350 Kensington Road.
  2. For Route 121, use Kensington Bay A and board a bus signed Doraville Station or Goldsmith Park & Ride. Get off at stop 901203, Memorial Drive at Camp Road.
  3. For Route 125, use Kensington Bay B and board a bus signed Chamblee Station. Get off at stop 901020, Northern Avenue at Memorial Drive.
  4. For the return to Kensington, use stop 903359, Memorial Drive at Northern Avenue. Both Route 121 and Route 125 trips at that stop carry the Kensington Station headsign.

Final-segment limit: The official GTFS coordinates place these stops close to the Census-matched 4425 Memorial Drive address point, but that is not a walking-distance or safe-access finding. The Sheriff's current pages do not identify the public entrance, crossing, sidewalk route or ADA path from either stop. Confirm the correct entrance with Jail Operations before relying on the final segment.

Times are static scheduled departures in MARTA's feed, not live arrivals. Day-of cancellations and detours can change a trip. The complete trip-by-trip output and the validator are retained with this guide's research evidence.

The feed marks stops 901203, 901020 and 903359 as wheelchair boarding available, and the checked trips as wheelchair-accessible. Those fields do not verify the path between a stop and the jail entrance. MARTA Mobility is 404-848-5826; route and schedule information is 404-848-5000.

Do not treat the nearby juvenile deck as confirmed jail parking

The Sheriff's current public pages identify 4425 Memorial Drive but do not publish a current visitor-parking lot, parking price, overflow plan or public-entrance diagram for the adult jail.

A structure associated with 4309 Memorial Drive appears in current records, but 4309 is the Juvenile Justice Center. No current official source reviewed on September 28 confirmed that adults conducting business at the jail may park there.

An older 2020 emergency notice directed people to a Camp Road entrance on the east side during a temporary lobby-access change. It is historical evidence, not proof of today's entrance. Call 404-298-8145 for the current entrance and parking instructions.

Kensington Station has MARTA parking and a live parking-status page. Availability, long-term rules and fees can change; verify them with MARTA rather than treating a dated snapshot as a guarantee.

Finding someone held here

Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
