JAIL411 / FAMILY FIELD GUIDE
A practical guide to Cherokee County adult jail custody.
Sources reviewed
Current adult county-jail custody and family services operated by the Cherokee Sheriff at 498 Chattin Drive, Canton, Georgia. Juvenile detention, Georgia prisons, federal or immigration custody, municipal police, courts and community supervision remain separate systems.
- Confirm custody
Save the booked name, inmate ID and current housing before paying or traveling.
- Choose the channel
Match the task to iWebVisit, InmateSales, JailATM, medical, counsel or bond staff.
- Confirm the handoff
Call about entrance, accessibility, property or release details that are not published.
Find the person
Live custody, facility identity and system boundaries.
Start with the live Cherokee jail list
- Open the Sheriff’s live Jail Inmate List. Search the person’s exact booked name. Save the displayed inmate ID and booked name; use those identifiers for mail, money and questions to staff.
- Check the record again before acting. The Sheriff warns that custody information changes quickly and may contain errors. An arrest listing is not a conviction.
- If there is no result, do not switch to the state-prison search by default. Recheck spelling and aliases, ask the arresting agency whether booking is complete or whether the person went elsewhere, then call the Adult Detention Center at 678-493-4200. Have full legal name, date of birth, arrest date and arresting agency ready.
The Georgia Department of Corrections search is for state custody and the federal locator is for federal custody; neither substitutes for this county list. A juvenile case follows Georgia DJJ procedures, not this adult-jail guide.
Two official jail phone numbers appear
The Sheriff’s current contact page lists 678-493-4200 for the jail. Georgia DOC still lists 770-345-3308. This guide uses the Sheriff’s number first and preserves the GDC number as an alternate; the agencies do not explain the division of duties between them.

Use these rules only for this adult county jail
In scope: the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center, jail/visitation complex and county-jail services at 498 Chattin Drive, Canton, GA 30115. The current Sheriff site confirms an operating Adult Detention Center and lists the jail, headquarters and Visitation Center at the same street address.
| System | Correct start | Why separate |
|---|---|---|
| Juvenile custody | Georgia DJJ; Marietta RYDC serves Cherokee | Youth detention has different custody and family rules. |
| Georgia prison | GDC offender search | A state sentence is not Sheriff jail custody. |
| Federal custody | BOP inmate locator | Federal facilities use federal procedures. |
| Municipal police / courthouse | Arresting agency or assigned court | An arresting, hearing or records location is not a housing unit. |
| Probation, parole or reentry | Supervising agency | Community supervision is not detention. |
The Sheriff headquarters shares the address but does not make every entrance interchangeable. Confirm the destination for visitation, property or release before travel.

Arrange a visit
On-site video, remote sessions, visitor preparation and access.
Schedule the correct on-site video day
Cherokee publishes video visitation, not a face-to-face room visit. Free on-site video visits use terminals in the Visitation Center at 498 Chattin Drive. Schedule through iWebVisit at least one day in advance. The visit is limited to 30 minutes, no more than two visitors at one terminal, and one on-site visit per inmate on the assigned visiting day. A visitor may visit only one inmate on that day.
| Days | Times | Published housing groups |
|---|---|---|
| Monday, Thursday, Saturday | 7:30–9:30 a.m.; 6:30–9:10 p.m. | F, N, P, Q, R, IMWF, G1–G7, V1, V2, V4, J, K, L, M |
| Tuesday, Friday, Sunday | 7:30–9:30 a.m.; 6:30–9:10 p.m. | A, H, O1–O7, V5, V6, V7 |
| Wednesday | No on-site visitation | |
Housing and status control availability, and court, medical, work or classes may interrupt a listed window. If the inmate cannot or will not attend, the Sheriff says the visit is canceled and a replacement code is emailed to the primary visitor. Save that email and appointment number.

Prepare identification, children and belongings
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Age / ID | You must be 18 to use iWebVisit alone. Anyone who appears under 18 without an adult is blocked until age is proved with valid government-issued photo ID. The page does not publish a complete adult ID list; bring current government photo ID and ask the Visitation Center about alternatives before travel. |
| Minors | A person under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All children must be fully clothed. No published relationship, birth-certificate or consent-letter rule was found. |
| Clothing | Everyone visible on camera must dress appropriately; remote visitors must dress as for the jail. No detailed garment list is published. |
| Belongings | No personal items in the visiting area, including cell phones and purses. Visitors are subject to search. Food, beverages and smoking are prohibited. |
| Infant / medical items | No public list establishes permitted diapers, formula, medication, mobility items or storage. Call 678-493-4200 before arriving. |
Visitors under the influence are refused. Screenshots, photos or recordings of the inmate are prohibited. The Sheriff publishes no separate long-distance or special-visit process, late-arrival grace period or item-storage guarantee; obtain a case-specific answer from the Visitation Center before a costly trip.

Set up and troubleshoot a remote visit
- Create the visitor account. Use iWebVisit; select Cherokee County Adult Detention Center and the correct inmate.
- Choose a current opening. Remote visits may be booked up to three weeks ahead or as late as one hour before start. Standard windows are daily 7:30–10:00 a.m., 1:00–3:00 p.m. and 6:30–9:40 p.m.; the Sheriff also publishes separate confidential-professional windows and a 4:00–9:40 p.m. Male IWF window.
- Test before paying. Use a computer with webcam, microphone and speakers or an Apple/Android device. The Sheriff recommends strong residential Wi-Fi and advises against mobile data.
- Keep the outcome. Standard remote visits are 15 minutes, up to three per inmate per day, at the posted $6 per visit. General visits are monitored and recorded.
Cancellation, failure or confidential visit
If housing, court, lockdown, release or transfer prevents the session, retain the cancellation email. The Sheriff says a credit voucher may be issued; it does not promise a cash refund. Use iWebVisit Visitor Support with the account email, inmate, scheduled time and error. A professional must create an account and obtain confidential status before scheduling; otherwise the session is recorded. The posted confidential price is $7.
Illegal or sexual conduct, nudity, recording, driving during a remote visit or improper conduct can end access. Certain misconduct ends the visit with no refund and can cause a block of at least seven days.

Request jail and transit accommodations separately
The Sheriff’s ADA notice says it will provide appropriate aids and services on request, including sign-language interpreters and accessible formats for speech, hearing or vision disabilities. The public page does not name a jail ADA coordinator or publish an accessible entrance. Contact the jail at 678-493-4200 before the appointment and state the visit date, requested aid, mobility device or medically necessary item. Ask where to meet staff and what screening will apply.
CATS transit handles its own accommodations. Call 770-345-6238 or write CATS at 884 Univeter Road, Canton, GA 30115. Georgia Relay is available at 711 or TTY/TDD 800-255-0056. An accessible vehicle does not prove that an unverified final walkway or visitation entrance is accessible; confirm both agencies.

Stay connected
Separate accounts, calls, mail, publications and trust funds.
Keep the three money systems separate
| Purpose | Service | Keep |
|---|---|---|
| Remote video | iWebVisit | Account email, inmate, appointment and cancellation/replacement code |
| Calls | InmateSales / collect-call service | Receiving phone number, account details, payment and failed-call time |
| Commissary / medical charges | Inmate trust account via JailATM, lobby ATM or approved mailed instrument | Booked name, inmate ID and receipt |
Before paying, identify the exact service and confirm the inmate is still here. The Sheriff does not publish a rule allowing balances to move between these systems after transfer or release. Use the provider tied to the transaction and retain every confirmation.

Calls run through InmateSales
The Sheriff says inmates may make collect calls between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. People in disciplinary segregation cannot make general calls. To set up an account, ask about billing or troubleshoot acceptance, use InmateSales or call 877-998-5678.
- Use the exact receiving phone number and select the Cherokee facility.
- Keep the payment confirmation and do not assume commissary funds pay the family phone account.
- If a call fails, record date/time, receiving number and the spoken or displayed error; check phone spam/unknown-call blocking, then contact provider support.
- If the person transfers or is released, ask the provider whether the balance can be refunded or moved before adding more funds.
The reviewed Sheriff/provider pages do not publish Cherokee-specific per-minute rates, refund deadlines, account-transfer rules, voicemail, tablet or messaging terms. Those remain transaction-specific questions for InmateSales; do not quote an unofficial rate.

Address personal and legal mail differently
| Mail type | Address / handling |
|---|---|
| Personal mail | JAILATM.com - Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Opened, scanned to the kiosk and originals discarded within 60 days.[Inmate name] / [Inmate number] 925B Peachtree St. NE, Box 2062 Atlanta, GA 30309 |
| Legal / privileged mail | Cherokee Sheriff’s Office - LEGAL MAIL Mark the envelope “Legal Mail.” It must come from a legally approved entity/attorney of record and is opened for contraband in the inmate’s presence, not read or censored.[Inmate name] / [Inmate ID] 498 Chattin Drive Canton, GA 30115 |
| Money instrument | Inmate Records - Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Never send money to the scanning address.[Inmate name] / [Inmate ID] 498 Chattin Drive Canton, GA 30115 |
Personal mail needs a return address. It may be up to 100 pages per envelope, with pages no larger than 8.5 × 11 inches. The scanner accepts written/typed pages, drawings, ordinary greeting cards and permitted photos. Do not send irreplaceable originals: the vendor destroys originals. Mail received after release is returned; the released person can request digital scans from JailATM with full name, facility, inmate ID and email.
Sources: Cherokee Sheriff: inmate mail, property, programs, money, medical and phones · Cherokee Sheriff: personal and legal mail posting (effective Dec. 18, 2023)
Know the photo limits; confirm books and packages first
Permitted personal-mail contents include ordinary photos, drawings and greeting cards within the 100-page limit. No Polaroids; no glitter, glue, tape, 3-D or electronic elements; no nude/partially clothed images or material involving sex, gangs, illegal activity, violence, drugs or alcohol. Perfume, lipstick, chemicals, adhesives and other foreign substances can also cause refusal.
Do not send books, magazines, publications or packages to the Atlanta scanning center. The reviewed Sheriff pages do not publish an alternate publisher-direct address, approved seller, binding rule, quantity limit or family package program. Before ordering, call Inmate Records at 678-493-4209 and ask whether the exact title, seller, format and delivery address are accepted. A commercial listing is not permission.
Contraband is confiscated and the inmate receives a refusal form; unlawful material is referred as evidence. Unresolved mail problems can be raised by the inmate to an ADC supervisor on the kiosk, with Jail Administration review case by case. Indigent inmates are eligible for a writing pack twice weekly containing stamped envelopes, a pencil and sufficient paper.
Sources: Cherokee Sheriff: inmate mail, property, programs, money, medical and phones · Cherokee Sheriff: personal and legal mail posting (effective Dec. 18, 2023)
Fund the trust account and trace problems
Use the exact booked name and inmate ID. The Sheriff publishes three routes:
- Online: JailATM, linked from the Sheriff site.
- Lobby: the ADC lobby ATM accepts cash, credit cards and debit cards and credits the trust account automatically.
- Mail to Inmate Records at 498 Chattin Drive: money order, cashier’s check or government check. Cash and personal checks are not accepted. The public inmate page says money orders may be any amount; the mailing PDF does not publish payee wording, fees or a posting time.
Funds may be used for commissary and medical services. If money is missing, keep the vendor receipt/instrument record and call Inmate Records at 678-493-4209; do not pay again until staff identifies the destination.
Remaining funds after release
The Sheriff says all credited funds are released to the inmate during normal business hours, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. It does not state the payment method, how weekend release affects access or how a transferred person receives the balance. Confirm those points with Inmate Records.

Get there
Arrival limits, reserved county transit and local support.
Arrive at the right Chattin Drive destination
The Sheriff lists the Jail and Visitation Center at 498 Chattin Drive, Canton, GA 30115, with 678-493-4200. Use the iWebVisit confirmation and current housing to decide whether the trip is for a scheduled terminal visit, property pickup, bond or release.
Parking and final path remain unverified. No reviewed official page names a visitor lot, entrance, accessible drop-off, parking hours, towing boundary or after-hours exit. Do not treat a map pin or visible pavement as permission. Before driving, call and ask for the visitor/bond/property entrance, current parking instruction, accessible drop-off and where a released person exits. If using CATS curb-to-curb service, give dispatch the facility address and agree on the exact safe pickup point; the jail has not published a final pedestrian path.

Reserve CATS instead of expecting a fixed-route stop
Cherokee Area Transit Service currently publishes Demand Response curb-to-curb travel anywhere in Cherokee County and Micro-Transit in the Canton area. No current fixed-route stop at the jail is published on the reviewed operator page. Call 770-345-6238 to ask whether your origin and jail trip qualify, reserve the ride and specify any accommodation.

Protect wellbeing
Health escalation, complaints, disability access and PREA.
Send health information to the medical line
The Sheriff says Correct Health provides in-house medical, dental and mental-health care. For medical inquiries call 678-493-4547. Have the person’s booked name and inmate ID, your callback number, the condition, medication name/dose/prescriber, allergy or glasses/dental issue, and why timing matters.
- For an immediate safety threat inside the jail, also call the jail at 678-493-4200 and clearly request urgent staff/medical attention.
- Do not bring medication, glasses or equipment to the lobby until medical staff gives the accepted handoff method.
- Write down the time, person/unit reached and promised next step. If you receive no answer, call the jail and ask how to escalate a medical concern.
The public sources do not establish a medication-delivery window, pharmacy rule, glasses procedure, family consent form or what health details staff may disclose. The medical line is therefore the responsible contact, not a promise that protected information will be released. For a community crisis after release, GCAL operates 24/7 at 800-715-4225.
Sources: Cherokee Sheriff: inmate mail, property, programs, money, medical and phones · Cherokee Sheriff: jail, headquarters and visitation-center contacts · Georgia DBHDD: 24/7 crisis access line
Separate inmate grievances, public complaints and ADA requests
The public site does not publish the internal inmate grievance form, filing deadline or appeal steps. Ask Jail Administration at 678-493-4200 how the detained person obtains the current grievance channel and keeps a receipt. Do not use an ordinary family message as proof of filing.
For alleged employee misconduct, any person may complain in writing, by telephone or in person, anonymously or by name. The Sheriff says any employee must refer a complaint to a supervisor (corporal or above), document it, and forward it to the Division Commander and Office of Professional Standards. Ask for a supervisor and retain date, time, facts, witnesses and any tracking information. The page does not publish an OPS direct number or adjudication deadline.
For disability access to jail services, request aids or effective communication through the Sheriff/jail before the visit. This is separate from a CATS transit ADA complaint and from PREA reporting.
Sources: Cherokee Sheriff: Office of Professional Standards complaint process · Cherokee Sheriff: jail, headquarters and visitation-center contacts
Report sexual abuse without waiting for an internal grievance
Third parties may report sexual abuse or harassment directly to PREA Coordinator Deputy Mohammad Vafaeiah at 678-493-4169 or mhvafaeian@cherokeecountyga.gov. PREA Compliance Manager Ashley Ray is listed at 678-493-4154. Confined people may report through the housing-unit kiosk, the coordinator or LiveSAFE Resources at 770-427-3390. The Sheriff says every allegation is referred for investigation.
Give the person’s name/ID, location if known, what happened, when, immediate medical/safety need and a safe callback method. Do not investigate or confront anyone yourself. An urgent medical or safety danger should also be reported to jail staff immediately.
Audit-date conflict preserved
The PREA page says the last audit was in 2023 and the next was scheduled for June 2026. The accreditation page says the most recent PREA reaccreditation audit was June 26–28, 2024 and also lists June 2026 as next. As of this review, neither page confirms the result of the now-past June 2026 event. The coordinator is the responsible source for current audit status.
Sources: Cherokee Sheriff: PREA contacts, third-party reports and reports · Cherokee Sheriff: detention-center accreditation and audit dates
Programs are voluntary and must be requested inside
The Sheriff publishes three voluntary in-custody programs: GED/adult education; Alcoholics Anonymous, which also addresses other substance-use issues; and a non-denominational chaplaincy program supporting faith practice and community support after release. Programs are managed by a Programs Manager and volunteers. Availability, waiting lists, language access, eligibility by housing/status and certificates are not public.
The detained person should ask housing staff how to request the desired program and record the request. Family members may call the jail for the Programs Manager’s current procedure, but the public page only publishes a volunteer contact, not a participant-enrollment line. Do not promise admission or attach these county-jail programs to Georgia prison, juvenile or community-supervision custody.

Court and coming home
Counsel, bond, property, release and reentry.
Track the case and reach counsel
Cherokee Magistrate Court handles initial appearance and bail hearings for people booked into the ADC; its case description says arrested people are seen within 72 hours. This does not establish a public viewing time or promise release. For court dates and docket posture, use the Clerk’s case search, then confirm the official file with the correct criminal division: Superior Court Criminal 678-493-6508 or State Court Criminal/Traffic 678-493-6550. The Justice Center is 90 North Street, Canton, GA 30114, not the jail.
For appointed counsel, contact the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit David L. Cannon Sr. Cherokee County Indigent Defense Office, 94 North Street, 3rd Floor, Canton, GA 30114, 678-493-6190, Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Its mailing address remains 90 North Street, Suite 200. Ask how an incarcerated person applies and provide name, jail ID, charge/case number and next court date.
Ordinary video and family messages are monitored. Attorneys should complete iWebVisit confidential approval before scheduling and use the separately marked legal-mail route.

Confirm the bond before paying
First verify the person, charge, bond amount and any restriction with the live jail record/jail. The Sheriff warns it will never call family members demanding money for bond, ankle monitoring or pretrial release.
| Method | Key rule |
|---|---|
| Cash / cashier’s check | Full bond plus a separate nonrefundable $20 state fee in exact cash; Sheriff makes no change. |
| Debit/credit online | Sheriff links Bail.cash/AllPaid and publishes an additional $10 automation fee plus 5% administrative fee, in addition to the $20 state fee. Verify the live checkout before authorizing. |
| Professional bondsman | Use only the Sheriff’s current approved list; Sheriff cannot recommend one. The service fee is nonrefundable. |
| Property bond | Detailed deed, tax, mortgage, equity, owner-presence and ID rules apply; a lien is placed. Out-of-county approved bonds must remain in the sealed agency envelope. |
Bond Administrator: 678-493-4164. Cash-bond return questions after the case ends go to the court clerk number the Sheriff publishes, 678-493-6501. Bond is a court-appearance guarantee, not a fine; confirm other holds and actual release authorization before arranging pickup.

The inmate must authorize property pickup
- The inmate requests and completes a property-release form from the housing deputy, naming the recipient.
- The named person goes to the facility Monday–Friday, except holidays, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
- The recipient presents valid government-issued photo ID.
- The release covers personal property except clothing items.
Call Property Deputy 678-493-4212 before travel to confirm the authorization is processed, entrance and holiday status. The public page does not explain partial releases, storage deadline, release after transfer/deportation/death or disposal/appeal. Get instructions for those circumstances before appearing.

Plan pickup around an uncertain release time
No reviewed official page publishes a universal release door, processing duration, clothing procedure, transport service or weekend trust-balance method. A posted bond or court order does not provide a pickup time by itself. Ask the jail at 678-493-4200 whether release is authorized, whether another hold prevents departure, which exit is used and whether the person can call when processing ends.
Prepare identification, weather-appropriate clothes, a charged phone and a flexible pickup plan. Do not wait in an unverified restricted lot. CATS operates only Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m. and requires booking; it is not an on-demand late-night release ride. Remaining inmate funds are published for release during Monday–Friday business hours, but the payment method and weekend handling remain open. For scanned mail, the released person may request digital copies from JailATM.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything
Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.
Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
