JAIL411 / FAMILY FIELD GUIDE

Duval County adult jails: a practical family guide.

Sources reviewed

Adult JSO custody at John E. Goode, Montgomery Correctional Center and Community Transition Center. Juvenile, state, independent federal/ICE and Duval County, Texas custody are separate.

  1. Confirm current custody

Match the booking number and housing; call 904-630-5760 if the search is unclear.

  2. Reserve the right visit

Remote calls are inmate-initiated; free downtown appointments need 24 hours notice.

  3. Separate accounts and mail

Use Phoenix for personal mail, housing for legal mail, and the correct account provider.

  4. Plan pickup and return

MCC sentenced releases move downtown; CTC releases remain at CTC.

PART 01

Find the person and destination

Confirm current custody and separate the three JSO adult facilities.

Find current custody and the 10-digit booking number

Use the JSO Inmate Information Search, then call 904-630-5760 if the result is missing, ambiguous or will not load. The official search contains current and historical records; a matching name or mugshot alone does not establish present custody. Save the full booked name, 10-digit booking number, current facility, charge/case information and any release notation shown.

  1. Try the booked spelling and known aliases; compare date of birth or other identifiers rather than choosing a similar name.
  2. For a new arrest, ask the arresting agency whether the person is still with it, in medical care or delivered to JSO intake. Property inventory, booking, medical screening and housing assignment occur before release/visitation processing.
  3. If the live tool fails, do not interpret the error as release. The public directory also lists inmate-information lines 904-630-5759 and 904-630-5747.
  4. Confirm the housing building before mailing legal material or arranging pickup. A court case search is separate from a custody search.

This guide covers adults in Duval County, Florida. Duval County, Texas, Jacksonville in other states, Florida state prisons, federal/ICE custody and youth facilities use separate systems. JSO describes mixed custody categories at Goode; adult guidance does not certify a juvenile’s visiting or school arrangements.

The published shared social-video, personal-mail and deposit instructions apply across JSO’s three sites. CTC work-furlough property and release arrangements differ. The Jacksonville Re-Entry Center at 1024 Superior Street is a service location, not a fourth ordinary jail visit destination. Confirm present housing; a work program is not automatic eligibility for outside employment or unsupervised contact.

Arrange a visit

Shared downtown video, approval, clothing and technical problems.

Free onsite video and paid remote visits

OptionSchedule / locationLimits / booking
Free onsite video for all three facilities500 E. Adams Street, west side entrance shared with First Appearance court; Friday, Saturday, Sunday including holidays falling on those days, 9 AM–7 PMOne visitor per person per week; maximum two hours. Reserve at least 24 hours ahead, up to 14 days ahead. Same-day bookings refused.
Remote GettingOut videoPerson in custody initiates the call after your account/ID approvalPublished $0.25 per minute. No complete daily remote availability chart or universal session cap published.
Face-to-face social visitNot offered under current public JSO ruleLegal/court-ordered access is separate.

For onsite appointments follow the officially linked GettingOut scheduling service. Select the correct facility/person and onsite option; retain the confirmation. JSO labels the hours “EST”; use the actual appointment’s Jacksonville local time and resolve any time-zone discrepancy before travel. The public page does not give an early-arrival minute cutoff: allow time for parking and screening and ask 904-630-5760 for the check-in requirement.

Workers cannot visit during assigned work hours. Shared access to the downtown video center does not mean visitors should travel to MCC or CTC for a social visit. If a housing transfer or restriction removes the appointment, call the facility and check your account before leaving home.

ID, children, clothing and conduct

JSO requires an account and uploaded ID for approval. Bring the same current photo identification used for verification and the appointment confirmation as practical preparation; the reviewed public rules do not list all acceptable ID alternatives. Ask before relying on an expired, foreign or non-photo document. GettingOut’s current account age notice is over 18. It does not establish whether a child may participate with an approved adult in this jail’s one-visitor onsite allocation.

Before bringing a child, call 904-630-5760. Ask whether the child counts as the weekly visitor, which adult must accompany them, what birth/guardianship documents are needed, and whether a bottle, diapers, carrier or stroller may enter. These local details were not located in the public rules; do not borrow Florida state-prison child rules. Ask the same desk about religious headwear, medical devices, lockers and long-distance/special accommodation.

Dress fully, with the face clearly visible and good lighting. No transparent/revealing clothes, tight clothes without proper undergarments, costumes/disguises or exposure of breasts, buttocks, back or stomach. No nudity, screenshots, recording, streaming, secondary phone/tablet/computer displayed, television/music broadcasting, weapons/drugs/large amounts of cash displays, sexual gestures or three-way communication. Do not participate while sitting in any motor vehicle—even parked or as a passenger.

After serving a one-year suspension, the visitor must request reinstatement in writing from Technology & Compliance. Ask the facility for the current submission channel. The person in custody can also face a minimum seven-day visiting suspension and discipline. A disconnected call alone does not establish which rule or technical fault occurred; ask for the actual reason.

Set up video, cancel, or report a failed visit

  1. Open GettingOut, create your own account, activate the email link (check spam), and complete JSO identification verification. Select the actual Duval facility/person; a similarly named jail is not interchangeable.
  2. Use the Friends & Family account for supported visits and tablet messaging. A phone AdvancePay deposit or jail trust deposit does not fund this account. Confirm the service and displayed charge before adding money.
  3. For remote visits, arrange a time with the person in custody: JSO says the person initiates the call. For free onsite visits, reserve the appointment at least 24 hours ahead and retain confirmation.
  4. Before the call, allow camera/microphone access, test sound and a stable connection, use a well-lit private place outside a vehicle, and follow the current app/device prompt. The provider's old desktop FAQ still mentions Flash; that 2017 instruction is obsolete and should not guide setup.
  5. To cancel an appointment, use its calendar entry and cancellation control. The public cancellation FAQ gives the action but does not establish a Duval cutoff or automatic refund.

If video fails, save appointment time, facility, booking number, error and charge receipt; do not record the session. Contact GettingOut at 866-516-0115 for account/device/payment review and JSO at 904-630-5760 for housing access, approval or suspension. Ask whether a failed appointment uses the weekly allocation and whether a replacement or credit is approved. Neither outcome is promised in the reviewed local rules.

GettingOut's separate June 1, 2026 notice applies to Friends & Family balances: 180 days of inactivity, then 90 additional days to request refund through 866-516-0115. If opted in, the reminder comes no later than 30 days before account expiration. Using the account resets its inactivity period. Check the notice for any law/contract exception; this is separate from credit for a particular failed visit.

PART 03

Calls, mail and money

Use the correct provider, address and account.

Phone accounts, blocked calls and refunds

JSO directs families to its telephone provider at 877-650-4249. ConnectNetwork AdvancePay prepays calls to your specified telephone number. Register the correct facility and receiving number, review current rates/fees, add only the intended amount and retain the receipt. Automatic reload is optional. Calls, GettingOut video/messages, commissary and bail use different balances.

If calls do not arrive, verify that the receiving number matches the funded account, the facility is supported, the balance covers the call, and the number/carrier is not blocking correctional calls. Ask the provider to check an account restriction. Do not use forwarding, three-way calling or hold features that can interrupt service. Staff cannot place an ordinary incoming social call through to housing; use the facility for an urgent welfare concern.

For an unused AdvancePay balance, request a refund from the provider and retain the case number. The current June 1, 2026 notice says accounts become inactive after 180 days, followed by an additional 90 days to request refund before forfeiture; an opted-in reminder is sent no later than 30 days before account expiration. An older FAQ says no refunds after inactivity, so rely on the newer dated notice and ask support to identify the rule applied to your account. Do not apply this to jail trust funds or to an incarcerated person's separate PIN debit funds. Report a dropped call with date, time and charge; provider exclusions mean a refund is not automatic.

Personal mail goes to Maryland; photos are restricted

Since October 1, 2024, JSO sends personal postal mail for all three facilities through TextBehind scanning. Use this address, with sender name and return address:

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office - Duval, FL
Person's booked name, 10-digit booking number
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131

The letter becomes a digital tablet attachment. Use an unaltered envelope no larger than 8½ × 11 inches; boxes are not accepted. JSO permits personal letters/postcards but specifically prohibits photographs, facsimiles and internet-downloaded reading material regardless of content, as well as items sold through commissary. A provider's generic photo service is not permission under JSO's rules. An unauthorized item can cause the whole package to be confiscated for disposal; altered envelopes are returned.

Source conflict: the MCC subsection still labels its Lannie Road address as personal mail. The dated systemwide instruction directs all personal mail to Phoenix; reserve the housing address for legal mail and authorized publications.

For missing scans or return questions, email info@TextBehind.com with sender details, recipient, booking number, facility and mailing date. Never send irreplaceable originals. TextBehind's physical-letter page says originals are held 15 days, while its retention/important-document pages say 30 days. Contact it immediately for the actual destruction/return deadline; a return may have shipping charges. Do not wait on the assumption that 30 days is guaranteed.

Trust deposits, indigence and missing balances

Use Access Corrections / Access Secure Deposits, reached from JSO's inmate-deposit link, or call 866-345-1884 for Visa/Mastercard credit/debit deposits. Telephone service is available 24/7. Select Florida, the actual JSO agency and recipient; verify name and booking number before paying. Review the transaction's fee/limit and save its confirmation. Do not send a second deposit merely because the first has not appeared.

JSO also lists cash kiosks in all three facility lobbies. However, its lobby-entry restrictions do not clearly list deposit visits. Call the relevant access number before making a cash trip; neither kiosk availability nor unrestricted 24-hour lobby access is established. Staff do not accept mailed or hand-delivered cash, cashier's checks or money orders for trust deposits. Bail has a different payment rule.

People without available funds receive basic health/comfort items and writing materials, with the charge creating a negative balance. Later deposits can repay debt, including during future incarceration for up to three years. A deposit is therefore not necessarily the same as spendable commissary credit.

Access support can trace a transaction but cannot see the person's jail balance or account deductions. For a failed/duplicate deposit, contact 866-345-1884 or customerservice@accesscorrections.com with receipt details. For deductions, orders, indigent supplies or the remaining release balance, ask facility account staff through the main number. The reviewed local sources do not specify release-payment method, pickup procedure or a guaranteed deposit-refund rule; request those before sending money close to release.

Plan the trip

Actual entrances, parking, bus stops and nearby services.

Find the correct door and a usable parking option

For a reserved social video visit to a person in any of the three facilities, travel to 500 E. Adams Street, west-side entrance shared with First Appearance court. Do not drive to MCC for an ordinary social visit. Legal/property business and release pickup have their own access instructions; call first.

GaragePublished accessPractical limitation
Yates Garage, 200 E. Adams StreetMonday–Friday 6 AM–7 PM; closed city holidaysFriday option only within this schedule; a visit ending at 7 PM leaves no retrieval margin
Duval Street Garage, 33 W. Duval StreetMonday–Saturday 6 AM–7 PM; closed city holidaysFarther walk; possible Saturday option, but not a published Sunday option

City parking information: parking@coj.net. Check posted rates, event restrictions, accessible spaces and exit access before leaving the car. Neither garage's published hours cover Sunday jail video visits; identify a lawful Sunday public/private or curb option with its actual signs, or use transit/drop-off. No jail visitor lot fee or reserved parking entitlement was verified. Leave walking, security and appointment-check-in time; the jail page does not state an exact early-arrival interval.

For disability-related access, contact 904-630-5765 before travel. For MCC property business at 4727 Lannie Road, arrange access through 904-630-8861 and ask about parking/drop-off; downtown garage and bus information does not cover that campus. For CTC release, confirm the safe waiting point rather than blocking the Catherine Street entrance.

The city hourly-rate table lists Yates: up to 2 hours $2; up to 3 hours $3. Duval Street: up to 2 hours $5; up to 3 hours $7.03; up to 5 hours and longer $10. Longer Yates bands rise to $7.03 in the published 6-hours-or-more row, which overlaps its separate up-to-6-hours $6.03 row; confirm the exact boundary at the garage. These rates do not extend opening hours or establish Sunday, event or tax treatment.

Real JTA stops and the weekend return limit

JTA Route 11, A. Philip Randolph, links JRTC at LaVilla with the downtown Bay Street corridor and 21st/Phoenix. The official current GTFS, with service calendar through October 31, 2026, identifies Bay St + Market St stop 1638 toward Phoenix and stop 1637 toward Downtown/JRTC. These are street stops requiring a walk to the jail; no bus enters the secured visiting area. Check direction before boarding.

These are scheduled stop times rounded down to whole minutes, with calendar exceptions applied, not live arrivals. Arrive early and recheck detours. The weekend return cutoff is consistent with the earlier nearby timepoint below.

The currently linked printed Route 11 timetable is effective September 8, 2025. On Saturday and Sunday, northbound JRTC departures run hourly 6:45 AM–9:45 PM. For the return, its nearby Bay & A. Philip Randolph timepoint lists 6:24 AM, 7:24 AM, then 8:25 AM hourly through 8:25 PM toward JRTC. These are timepoint times, not exact Market Street arrivals. The last 9:15 PM trip from 21st/Phoenix has a blank Bay timepoint and goes to JRTC; do not treat that final 21st/Phoenix trip as an additional later pickup at Bay & A. Philip Randolph or Market Street. Use the dated stop 1637 limit above and the current trip planner for your actual stop and date.

NAVI currently advertises fare-free service Monday–Friday 7 AM–7 PM, with temporary stop 6193, Forsyth & Ocean under the published downtown closures. It offers a Friday alternative with a street walk, but no Saturday/Sunday service under that schedule. The page also announces a pause beginning December 31, 2026; recheck if planning beyond this review. Do not assume every older NAVI stop remains open.

Call JTA 904-630-3100 for route/accessibility help and confirm current detours and the final return trip before reserving. The printed customer-service hours are Monday–Friday 5:30 AM–8:30 PM, Saturday 8 AM–5 PM, closed Sunday. Timetables and GTFS are scheduled service, not live vehicle arrivals. No current fixed-route last-mile access to the MCC visitor/property door was verified; arrange that trip directly rather than assuming a downtown route reaches Lannie Road.

PART 05

Care, accommodation and complaints

Report an urgent concern and use the right review channel.

Send a care concern and request privacy/ADA help

For an immediate risk inside custody—suicide statements, serious withdrawal, missed time-critical medication, breathing trouble or a new assault—call the housing facility and ask for the watch commander and medical/mental-health staff. Give the booked name, booking number, symptoms, when they began, medication/dose/last dose if known and your callback number. Ask staff to document the concern and identify the receiving team. The person inside should alert a deputy immediately rather than wait for an ordinary request or grievance.

For routine care, ask the person to use the facility's medical request process. Family can offer medication/pharmacy/prescriber information, but do not deliver drugs, medical devices, records or expressed milk without an authorized recipient and instructions. Ask clinical staff how the patient can authorize disclosure and how to submit supporting records securely. A relative's relationship alone does not establish access to confidential medical information. The public sources do not identify a current local consent form or routine family clinical hotline for Goode/CTC.

The ADA coordinator is based at Goode, 500 E. Adams Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202. Request the specific communication, mobility, hearing, vision or visiting accommodation needed before travel, including an interpreter if needed. Do not put detailed private medical history into a general public-records request.

Published care charges and limits of the fee page

JSO lists Goode sick visit $5, emergency visit $10, medical records $5, dental visit $5, prescription $5, and subsistence $2 per day. The page does not explain all exemptions, billing disputes or how each charge applies at CTC/MCC. Ask medical/account staff for the actual charge and review process. Report an urgent health problem immediately; do not wait to arrange a deposit.

Grievances, employee complaints and sexual safety

For an ordinary housing, food, property, mail or service problem, the person in custody should request the current facility grievance form/process, keep a copy or tracking number and ask for the submission and appeal deadlines. The current public JSO pages reviewed do not publish the adult grievance timetable. A family employee complaint does not necessarily file or preserve the person's internal grievance.

To report staff conduct, use the JSO secure complaint form or Internal Affairs 904-630-2187. Complaints may be made to any JSO employee in person, by telephone or in writing. Internal Affairs business hours are Monday–Friday 8 AM–5 PM; JSO says an investigator can be made available at any time. Provide who, what, when, location, witnesses and relevant records; keep the reference number. Anonymous ordinary complaints may be investigated at JSO's discretion. The linked paper form is revised December 2015; confirm its mailing/hand-delivery location before using an old headquarters address.

Sexual abuse or harassment: call the JSO PREA line 904-630-5724. JSO expressly accepts confidential/anonymous written or verbal reports, including from relatives and other third parties. Report immediate danger to the facility/watch commander as well; do not wait for a routine complaint response. Give enough information to locate the person and incident, report retaliation or continuing risk, and request medical/mental-health support. The public page does not publish a current internal telephone code or local grievance deadline; those omissions do not prevent using the published third-party report line.

Counsel, bail, release location and reentry obligations.

Court dates and appointed counsel

Use the Duval Clerk CORE portal for case documents and docket information. Match the case number and defendant, and distinguish a hearing entry from physical jail release. Portal technical help is CORE@duvalclerk.com; case questions go to the Clerk at 904-255-2000.

Public Defender, Fourth Circuit407 N. Laura Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202; 904-255-4673 (904-255-HOPE)

A person who cannot afford a lawyer should request appointed counsel at first appearance; the court determines eligibility. Family can contact the Public Defender with name, booking/case number and next court date to identify assigned counsel. Do not discuss confidential defense details over ordinary recorded social communication; ask counsel for the approved confidential contact procedure.

For a pending felony arraignment, the Clerk directs confirmation to the State Attorney at 904-255-2500, no earlier than 2 PM on the day before; later appearances can be checked with the Clerk. Follow the actual notice/order, and contact counsel earlier for transport, interpreter or attendance problems. No dependable current daily first-appearance start time was established in the reviewed sources. The jail's west-side first-appearance entrance is a different destination from the courthouse at 501 W. Adams.

Bail, civil purge and later cash-bond refunds

Before paying, confirm the current case, exact amount, accepted tender and any other hold with jail staff and counsel. A bond payment is not a guarantee of immediate physical release. JSO's published cash-bond procedure requires the full amount at the jail's public reception area, using cash, a certified/cashier's check drawn on a local bank subject to verification, or a United States Postal Money Order payable to the Office of the Sheriff. Trust-deposit kiosks are not the bail process. Call 904-630-5760 for current payment access and verification before bringing a check.

A licensed bonding agency can arrange a surety bond; choose it independently and get fees, collateral and obligations in writing. JSO officers cannot recommend an agency. The Clerk's cash-bond refund process does not promise return of a private agency premium.

For a civil writ/attachment, the judge may set a purge amount. JSO says to pay the Domestic Relations Department during courthouse business hours or the jail after hours, with the published cash/check/postal-money-order forms. Its page still names Room 107; confirm the current counter with the Clerk at 904-255-2000 rather than treating that old room reference as verified wayfinding.

At the end of a felony case, cash bond may first cover fines, costs or restitution. The Clerk says any remaining amount due the depositor is normally sent within 10–14 working days after final disposition. If it has not arrived after 14 working days, contact 904-255-2000 with case number, defendant name and final disposition date. This is a post-case refund timeline, not the jail's release-processing time.

Personal property, work-furlough clothing and evidence

At Goode and MCC, current public-lobby permission for an outside property pickup is limited to money and keys. Before traveling, ask what written authorization from the person is needed, the collector's ID, pickup hours and whether the item is eligible. The public page does not establish blanket permission to collect every stored possession.

CTC904-630-7195 / access questions 904-630-2856; authorized Work Furlough property only through public reception, regular business hours

CTC Work Furlough participants may receive specifically authorized property at public reception during regular business hours, not during visitation hours. Confirm the approved items and actual delivery window; no precise current business-hour schedule is supplied for this exception. Items available through commissary are not accepted. This does not permit general clothing packages at Goode or MCC. JSO lists notary service at $5; ask about the particular document before visiting.

If police seized the item as evidence

Evidence is a separate system at 829 Haines Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206, 904-630-8777, Monday–Friday 7:30 AM–4 PM, excluding holidays. The evidence hold must be lifted; bring recognized photo ID and ownership proof or a release order. Cash/firearms need an appointment: money vault 904-630-8763, gun vault 904-630-8762. JSO publishes an evidence claim period of 60 days after final case disposition and a found-property period of 90 days from submission. These are not jail clothing-retention rules. Call about your receipt/case before travel.

Sources: JSO: current production Corrections Facility Information · JSO: published fees · JSO: evidence and found-property pickup, separate from jail property

Release location and pickup planning

JSO must complete booking, identification and release clearance. Court action, posted bond or a database change does not give an exact exit time. Ask whether any other case, detainer, sentence or transport step remains, and wait for staff confirmation of the actual pickup destination.

  • Goode: confirm the exit and pickup arrangement at 500 E. Adams Street through 904-630-5760. Do not assume the video/court entrance is the release exit.
  • MCC: JSO says sentenced people from the prison are transported to the downtown jail for release. Call 904-630-8800 and then confirm Goode processing; do not wait at Lannie Road solely because the person was housed there.
  • CTC: sentenced people are released from CTC, 451 Catherine Street. Confirm readiness and permitted waiting/pickup point at 904-630-7195.

Before leaving, the person should ask about stored property, remaining funds, medication/prescriptions, follow-up care, the next court/probation obligation and any transport assistance. Family should arrange a charged phone, weather-appropriate clothing if authorized and a backup ride if transit has ended. No fixed public release clock, guaranteed ride, medication quantity or release-balance payment method was established in the reviewed sources.

Jacksonville Re-Entry Center (JREC), 1024 Superior Street, Jacksonville, FL 32254, 904-630-8600 (fax 904-630-8620), is a support destination, not another ordinary jail visiting site. Ask before release about eligibility, intake appointment, identification and help with housing, employment, food/clothing and training. Pre-Trial Services is 904-630-8623.

The 2024 JSO annual report describes JREC counselors working with people at Goode, CTC and MCC and a facility-specific program catalog. It documents education, substance-use services and employment preparation; it does not establish current 2026 class openings or housing availability. Ask the person's counselor which programs are actually available and how to request enrollment. CTC's Matrix House/Work Furlough placement is not open public admission; Matrix House information is 904-798-4330.

Electronic monitoring and misdemeanor probation

For JSO Electronic Monitoring, follow the release order and call 904-630-2859. Published orientation is within 48 hours of release; unit hours Monday–Friday 8 AM–5 PM, fee collection 8 AM–4 PM. Cash, debit/credit and money order are listed, with the current payment portal. Confirm the reporting address and any weekend instruction; the adjacent JREC address is not proof every monitoring appointment occurs there.

Current JSO misdemeanor probation instructions name Professional Probation Services: courthouse intake at 501 W. Adams Street, windows 1 and 2, Monday–Friday 8 AM–3 PM, closed noon–1 PM. Contacts: courthouse 904-255-2017, main 904-584-2164, satellite 904-593-9148, ppsjacksonville@ppsinfo.net. Follow the individual order rather than treating these published hours as an extension of a reporting deadline.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
