JAIL411 / FAMILY FIELD GUIDE

Jefferson County, Colorado: a practical guide for families.

Sources reviewed

Adult Jefferson County Detention Facility in Golden only. Youth, state, federal, municipal and ICCS work-release/community-corrections custody remain separate.

  1. Confirm custody

Search by booked name and keep the JCID; call 303-271-5444 if the record is unclear.

  2. Book the right visit

Use Securus at least 24 hours ahead and trust the displayed slot over conflicting handbook times.

  3. Separate channels

Personal mail goes to Tampa; legal mail and mailed funds go to Golden; TouchPay uses Site ID 280401.

  4. Prepare for release

Confirm each bond and hold, property, transport and court instructions.

PART 01

Find the person and destination

Lookup, booking and identity boundaries.

Confirm the person is in Jefferson County custody

Search the Sheriff's current-inmate lookup. The help page says the easiest search uses at least the first three letters of the last name. Match the booked name, photograph and identifying details, then retain the JCID/jail ID, charges, bond and next court date shown. The Sheriff says the roster covers only people currently in the Jefferson County Detention Facility and is refreshed every 15 minutes.

  1. Try the legal surname and a shorter three-letter entry.
  2. For a new arrest, ask the arresting agency whether booking has reached the county jail.
  3. If the person disappears, do not assume release: call 303-271-5444 and ask whether release, transfer or another hold explains the result.

Do not pay anyone who calls demanding money for release or electronic monitoring; the Sheriff warns that this is a scam.

Use the adult jail address—not a nearby government office

Jefferson County Detention Facility, 200 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden, CO 80401, is the Sheriff's adult county jail. Its lobby is published as open daily 8 AM–9 PM; the inmate-information and bond number is 303-271-5444. Intake, classification, medical units and different security housing are parts of this one adult facility.

PART 02

Visiting and communication

Conflicting schedules, visitor rules and provider help.

Compare the current remote and onsite video windows

The current visiting page uses Securus Video Connect for both home visits and lobby video kiosks. Create an account, request approval, select the correct person and schedule at least 24 hours ahead.

TypeDaily windowsCurrent page
Remote8:10–10:30 AM · 1–4:30 PM · 7:30–9:30 PM30 minutes; remote visits described as unlimited, subject to availability
Onsite kiosk9–10:30 AM · 1:10–4:30 PM · 7:40–8:30 PMCheck in 10–15 minutes early; late arrival shortens the visit

The February 2026 handbook conflicts: it describes onsite sessions as 20 minutes, different end times, classification-based weekly limits, and one 20-minute visit for segregation. Use the actual slot displayed by Securus and call 303-271-5444 before travel when classification or segregation may change access. Lockdown or an operational emergency can cancel a visit.

Sources: Sheriff: current visitation page · Sheriff: inmate handbook, updated February 2026

Bring physical ID and plan for a child before arriving

Visitors age 18 or older need a current government-issued photo ID; the current page says digital ID is not accepted and the ID must match the residence information used for registration. Onsite groups are limited to three. Shirts and shoes are required; clothing may not be revealing, form-fitting, above mid-thigh, shoulder-exposing or associated with a criminal organization. No food, drinks, gifts or item exchanges are allowed in the visiting area.

The handbook says children may visit only with an adult, but reviewed sources do not define proof of guardianship, a minimum age for accounts, infant supplies, alternative identity documents or a long-distance exception. Ask 303-271-5444 about the actual child and documents before scheduling. Do not infer that provider registration alone authorizes a minor.

Sources: Sheriff: current visitation rules · Sheriff: inmate handbook, updated February 2026

Test the session and preserve failed-visit evidence

  1. Sign in early and test camera, microphone, speakers and a stable connection.
  2. Use the exact approved account and scheduled person; funding does not override a facility denial.
  3. For an error, save the scheduled time, confirmation, device, error message and any charge.
  4. Take account/connection issues to Securus support; take housing, approval or cancellation questions to 303-271-5444.

The reviewed local sources do not publish the video price, rescheduling cutoff or local refund rule. Check the price and cancellation terms shown before checkout. Do not promise reimbursement for a short, late or facility-cancelled visit without a provider decision.

Sources: Sheriff: video setup and schedule · Securus: technical support

Set up Securus calling and protect the PIN

People in custody make outgoing calls through Securus; incoming calls are not accepted. The current page lists 800-844-6591 for Securus customer service and says calls are limited to 15 minutes. Family calls are monitored and recorded. A lawyer must register the attorney number with the provider for a privileged exemption; ordinary family accounts are not confidential.

The handbook describes billable, prepaid and inmate-debit options. It says JCSO gives no refund for a dropped call or a call made with a stolen PIN. The current web page calls all calls “collect” while also mentioning prepaid accounts; confirm the actual account type in Securus before funding. The local per-minute price is not published in the reviewed sources.

Sources: Sheriff: mail, phone and eMessaging · Sheriff: inmate handbook, updated February 2026 · Securus: live account service

Keep eMessaging separate from mail and legal contact

Securus eMessaging uses purchased stamps and may accept photo attachments for an additional stamp. Messages are screened; threatening, sexual, escape, gang-coded or other prohibited content may be rejected. The current page says eMessages are typically delivered within 24 hours, but this is not a guaranteed delivery deadline. Stamps are non-refundable, including for rejected content.

A tablet is a privilege and may be unavailable or restricted. Use legal mail or a registered privileged lawyer phone number for case strategy; eMessaging is monitored and is not legal mail.

Sources: Sheriff: eMessaging rules · Sheriff: inmate handbook, updated February 2026

Request communication access directly

The handbook says people who are deaf or hard of hearing may request VRS or another communication device from the module deputy during dayroom time without an advance formal kite; access is to be provided as soon as practicable. Interpreters and auxiliary aids are available for interviews and disciplinary hearings. The published TTY number is 303-980-7335.

For a visitor's onsite accommodation or an accessible route from parking/transit to the correct entrance, call 303-271-5444 before travel. The reviewed sources do not document curb-to-door accessibility or an alternative-ID accommodation.

Personal letters, drawings and eligible photographs are scanned for electronic viewing; the original is not given to the person. Include a full sender name and return address. The handbook says a sender who wants the original returned must include a self-addressed stamped envelope. After release or transfer, new mail is returned and is not forwarded.

Use standard white paper with pen or pencil. Do not include cash, coins, gift cards, Polaroid/Instax pictures, stickers, adhesives, glitter, confetti, glue, marker, crayon, paint, scent, lipstick/cosmetic residue, laminated/coated paper, cardboard or anything that cannot be scanned.

Obtain approval before ordering a permitted publication

The detained person must obtain staff preapproval before a legal, educational or religious publication is ordered. Send the approved item directly from a publisher, bookstore, approved retailer, or qualifying nonprofit—not from an individual—to the Golden P.O. box. The current page limits books to new softcover/nonfiction items and excludes sexually explicit or violent content. The handbook separately allows paper/paperback charitable material and new unused nonfiction paperbacks from a seller or distributor.

Ordinary parcels and packages require advance watch-commander approval. Do not order a subscription or package merely because a vendor will ship it; keep the approval and receipt.

Sources: Sheriff: books and publications · Sheriff: inmate handbook, updated February 2026

Use the publication-appeal clock promptly

For a rejected publication, the current page says both the sender and detained person receive notice. The sender's written appeal must be received within 15 days after the jail mailed the rejection notice. Send reasons to:

Detention Facility Administrative Sergeant
200 Jefferson County Parkway
Golden, CO 80401

The Sheriff or a different designee is to issue a written determination within 21 days after receiving the appeal. The reviewed sources do not publish an equivalent sender appeal timetable for an ordinary scanned letter. Call 303-271-5444 promptly about ordinary-mail rejection or original-item disposition.

Inspect the live transaction before authorizing it. Once deposited, funds belong to the detained person and are not returned to the sender unless that person authorizes a release.

Sources: Sheriff: deposit methods, fees and ownership · TouchPay: live transaction service

Understand debt deductions, indigence and order timing

The handbook says 80% of deposits first goes to jail debt and the other 20% enters the commissary account. A $30 booking fee may be deducted. Commissary money must be credited before 6 AM Friday for Saturday delivery; limits and available items appear on the kiosk/tablet. Discrepancies must be reported before signing for the order.

Indigent status requires less than $1 for 21 consecutive days or never having had a cash account. The every-other-week kit contains deodorant, shampoo, thumb toothbrush, toothpaste and two stamped envelopes; three legal envelopes can be requested. Inability to pay does not eliminate debt or prevent medical care.

PART 04

Care, safety and accountability

Medical requests, records, grievances and PREA.

Use the internal medical route and escalate immediate danger

Medical services operate 24/7. For routine medical or dental attention, the person submits a medical kite on the housing kiosk; one kite may list up to three concerns. A nurse screens the request and schedules provider follow-up by medical priority. Dental care is limited to urgent care.

For an immediate danger, the person should use the cell call button or tell any deputy or medical employee at once. A family member with urgent, specific safety information may call 303-271-5444, state the person's full legal name/JCID and the concrete risk, but staff may not disclose protected health information without authorization.

The handbook publishes $5 per medical kite and $5 per medication/monthly renewal, with listed no-charge categories, and says nobody is refused care for inability to pay. Because the medical contractor and charges can change, the person should request a copy of actual charges and use the medical-grievance route for a disputed service.

Sources: Sheriff: inmate handbook—medical services · Sheriff: jail contact

Route prescriptions and records to the clinical team

At booking, prescription medication is turned over to medical staff for verification and dispensing; families should not leave medication without a specific clinical instruction. The handbook describes twice-daily general rounds and different worker/clinical schedules, so a family must not promise the timing or continuation of an outside prescription.

Medical records are held by VitalCore, not the Sheriff's public-records unit. The Sheriff's records page says to contact VitalCore or submit a HIPAA-compliant release through the jail. Ask 303-271-5444 how to deliver the current form; no verified direct clinical phone/fax or routine family medication drop-off procedure was published.

Sources: Sheriff: property/medication at booking · Sheriff: VitalCore medical-record routing · Sheriff: inmate handbook—medication rounds

Meet the five-day grievance and appeal windows

Try one detailed electronic kite to the correct unit first. If unresolved, submit one-topic grievance through the housing kiosk with date, time, location, people and facts. The deadline is five calendar days after the incident. A visually impaired person may give a verbal grievance for staff to transcribe.

Staff normally respond within 10 business days, subject to stated staffing/unforeseen exceptions. An appeal must be filed electronically within five calendar days after receiving the response; the commander/unit manager normally responds within 10 business days and that decision is final. Discipline and judicial acts have separate remedies. A medical-service complaint also uses the grievance form within five calendar days.

Sources: Sheriff: inmate handbook—grievance procedure

Report sexual abuse immediately; reject the placeholder number

The handbook states zero tolerance for sexual abuse, harassment and retaliation and directs a person to tell any uniformed or civilian employee immediately. Medical and mental-health support is available. A family may call the verified jail line, 303-271-5444, ask for the on-duty supervisor and state that the report concerns sexual safety; for immediate outside danger call 911.

Source warning: the current February 2026 handbook prints 303-555-9876 as a no-cost sexual-abuse number. The 555 exchange is an apparent placeholder and no independent official page verified it, so Jail411 does not present it as callable. The reviewed site also does not publish a separate verified external/anonymous PREA channel or coordinator. Ask the jail supervisor for the current third-party and anonymous reporting options and preserve the date, time and person contacted.

Sources: Sheriff: inmate handbook—sexual abuse prevention · Sheriff: verified jail contact

Send records and complaints to the responsible unit

Booking, release and other jail records may be requested through the Sheriff's online records portal. Medical records are routed to VitalCore with a HIPAA-compliant release, not through an ordinary jail-record request. Preserve the JCID, dates and exact record requested.

Operational complaints may begin with the jail supervisor at 303-271-5444 and the internal kite/grievance process. The five-day internal grievance deadline still matters. A public records request does not substitute for urgent care, a grievance or a court filing.

Post only the court-set bond through a verified channel

Bond can be posted at the jail 24/7. The current jail page lists cash, cashier's check or money order for a cash bond; a Colorado-licensed bondsman for surety; court-ordered PR/PR co-signer release; and TouchPay for credit/debit. Use the inmate lookup for the current amount and call 303-271-5444 before arriving to confirm instruments and payee.

The public page's statement that surety commonly costs 10–15% is descriptive, not a guaranteed fee. Staff do not recommend a bondsman. Property bond must be posted through the court clerk during court business hours. For bond-fund return questions, the Sheriff directs families to the court at 720-772-2500.

Sources: Sheriff: bond types and posting · Sheriff: inmate handbook—bonding · TouchPay: live transaction service

Separate the bond amount from debts and release timing

Only the bond amount is required to secure release. A $10 bond fee and up to 3.5% credit-card payment fee may become debt; booking fees and other jail debt cannot be made a condition of release. Bond payments are made to the holding county, not in the detained person's name. The payer is entitled to bond paperwork and the next court date.

The six-hour rule is conditional: it runs after a PR bond is set and the defendant has returned to jail, or after cash bond is set, the defendant has returned and the jail is notified that funds are ready, absent extraordinary circumstances. Electronic monitoring fitting may support up to a 24-hour hold. Ask what hold or extraordinary circumstance applies rather than promising a release time.

Sources: Sheriff: inmate handbook—money-bond rights

Arrange property release before sending a pickup person

Booking property is inventoried and stored. A detained person must authorize a designee in writing; the pickup person needs valid photo ID and the property-release form. Call 303-271-5444 first to confirm the form, approved day/time and whether the item is releasable. Oversized property that will not fit the standard bag may need pickup, mailing at the person's expense or disposal.

Prescription eyeglasses without a case, prescription medication for clinical verification, approved religious items and current-case legal papers are the limited items identified for possible intake. Civilian court clothes may be dropped during lobby hours but require inspection and case-specific deadline confirmation. DOC or U.S. Marshals holds can change property rules.

Sources: Sheriff: property storage and release

Plan pickup without relying on an estimate

Release occurs around the clock, but the handbook says times cannot be predicted. The current web page estimates two to six hours after a release order; treat that as an estimate, not a pickup appointment, and account for other holds, warrant checks and electronic monitoring. Confirm status at 303-271-5444 before driving.

Return jail-issued items. Remaining cash is returned under policy by debit card and/or other current method; ask how to access or dispute the balance. The handbook says an RTD ticket may be requested by an indigent person without local fare only from October 1 through March 31. Do not promise a ticket, a ride or housing. The current page describes a three-day medication supply only when requested by administrative kite five days before a scheduled release; this cannot help an unexpected bond release, so the person should ask medical staff as soon as release becomes possible.

Sources: Sheriff: release information · Sheriff: inmate handbook—release

Ask a counselor about eligibility—not just availability

Published programs include detention counseling/reentry referral, voluntary jail-based behavioral health services, Edovo education, GED/HiSET preparation, religious groups, Alcoholics Anonymous, recreation and assigned work. Access depends on classification, module, capacity, behavior and program eligibility; the existence of a program does not guarantee placement.

The person should submit a kite to the counselor or appropriate unit and state the specific goal—treatment, ID, sober housing, education or release planning. Families can call 303-271-5444 for the current program contact but should not send documents until staff give a route.

Sources: Sheriff: detention programs · Sheriff: inmate handbook—requests and programs

Keep ICCS Work Release separate from general jail housing

Work Release is a court-sentencing/alternative program administered with ICCS. Men transfer to ICCS West, 11500 W. Security Avenue, Lakewood, 303-407-6200; women transfer to ICCS Kendall, 1651 Kendall Street, Lakewood, 303-232-4002. These are not ordinary Jefferson County jail housing locations.

JCSO says the ASP sergeant schedules transfers, usually within three to five days depending on beds, after mandatory jail time and hold/behavior review; ICCS intake may take up to 48 hours before work/school release. The page publishes daily rent as twice hourly wage, full payment at least 10 days before completion, and serious nonpayment consequences. Confirm current fees and eligibility with ICCS before budgeting. Court-ordered participants report first to the west-side Main Detentions Lobby; the overflow lot instruction applies to this program, not ordinary visitors.

Sources: Sheriff: Work Release and ICCS contacts

Call promptly after an order to supervision

If ordered to Jefferson County Pretrial Services, call 303-271-6528 for intake instructions. The in-person lobby is Monday–Thursday 8 AM–4 PM; business hours are Monday–Friday 7:30 AM–5 PM and the appointment line is 303-271-6521. Pretrial supervision is a court condition, not permission to ignore the release papers.

Jefferson County Community Corrections, 3500 Illinois Street, Suite 2800, Golden · 303-271-4840, handles approved diversion/transition placements by appointment Monday–Thursday 8 AM–5 PM. It is not an emergency shelter and does not guarantee same-day placement. For ordinary probation, use the court order and probation office rather than assuming Pretrial or Community Corrections is responsible.

Plan a necessary trip

Parking, current transit and overnight contacts.

Use the upper southwest jail lot for an onsite visit

The current visiting page directs onsite visitors to the jail lobby at 200 Jefferson County Parkway and identifies the upper southwest parking lot. Arrive 10–15 minutes before the appointment and verify the entrance if signage or construction redirects traffic. The reviewed sources do not publish a jail-lot fee, overnight permission, vehicle-size rule or a complete accessible curb-to-door route.

The separate RTD station at 605 Johnson Road has 705 spaces. RTD lists the first 24 hours free but says Park-n-Rides are for transit passengers; it is not jail overflow parking. Work Release's “Overflow Parking Lot across from the Detentions Lobby” instruction is program-specific.

Use the W Line and current Gate C FlexRide carefully

RTD's W Line terminates at Jefferson County Government Center–Golden Station, 605 Johnson Road. Check the live W timetable and alerts for the travel date. The current Golden FlexRide page, reviewed September 28, 2026, lists service Monday–Friday 5:30 AM–7 PM, Saturday 8 AM–7 PM and no Sunday/holiday service.

Other FlexRide trips can be booked online or at 303-299-6000, up to 30 days ahead and as little as 10 minutes before pickup, subject to availability. The operator pages do not establish that the vehicle enters jail property or that the pedestrian connection from station/Gate C to the upper southwest lobby is accessible. Keep off-campus food and overnight options separate from custody logistics

There is no verified public meal service at the jail, and food is not allowed in the visiting area. One official nearby business listing is Subway, 16950 W. Colfax Avenue, Unit 101, 303-278-4446. Its page reviewed September 28, 2026, published 9 AM–9 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and noon–9 PM Wednesday. Hours can change; call before relying on it and do not bring the order into the jail.

Two official hotel contacts on West Colfax are:

  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites Golden–Denver Area, 17140 W. Colfax Avenue, 303-278-2388; published check-in 3 PM/check-out 11 AM and complimentary guest parking.
  • Hampton Inn Denver-West/Golden, 17150 W. Colfax Avenue, 303-278-6600; published check-in 3 PM/check-out 11 AM and $8/day self-parking when reviewed.

These are practical contacts, not endorsements or guarantees of a meal, room, rate, jail shuttle or late checkout. Call before relying on availability. The jail and RTD lots cannot be assumed available for hotel parking.

Finding someone held here

Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
