Before you leave home

Three things to confirm before the trip.

In-person visits are Wednesday and Saturday only. Check in at the Sheriff’s office on time — late arrivals are denied. Use 102 South Court Street, not 205 South East Street.

  1. 01Confirm custody

    Call (530) 233-4416.

There is no live inmate name search. Ask if the person is still at Modoc County Jail and whether they are housed with women, men, or protective custody — those groups use different windows. If the person is at Devil’s Garden / CDCR, this door and CIDNET are wrong.

  2. 02Match the window

Wednesday or Saturday. Be there for check-in.

Official Visitation page (checked 2026-09-12): Women check in 9:45–9:55 a.m., visit 10:00–11:00 a.m. Men check in 1:45–1:55 p.m., visit 2:00–3:00 p.m. Protective Custody check in 2:45–2:55 p.m., visit 3:00–4:00 p.m. Same times both days. If you are late you will be denied.

  3. 03Arrive at 102 South Court Street

Sheriff’s office check-in — not the Justice Center.

Bring verifiable identification such as a state driver’s license or ID card. Probation or parole: signed letter from that official allowing the visit. Court conditional release: signed letter from the court or county probation. The courthouse is 205 South East Street. DA is 204 South Court Street.

01 / Visiting

Modoc County Jail visiting hours.

Official Visitation page (checked 2026-09-12): in-person visitation(s) are every week on Wednesday and Saturday. Times listed are for both Wednesday and Saturday. Check-in is at the Sheriff’s office. You must be at the scheduled time for check-in; if you are late you will be denied entry. Visitors bring verifiable identification, for example a state driver’s license or ID card. Call (530) 233-4416 before you drive. Ask which group the person is in (women, men, or protective custody) and whether visits are running. Housing moves change the window. Do not use CDCR camp visiting for this jail.

Release and property

Bail, property, and commissary pickup

01Bail

Call (530) 233-4416 — confirm custody first

Modoc Superior Court Criminal Division (checked 2026-09-12): bail allows release upon posting a bond, cash deposit, or other security deemed necessary to guarantee appearance. Confirm the person is still here by calling (530) 233-4416. The court’s Forms & Filing page still posts the 2019 Edition Statewide Uniform Bail and Penalty Schedules PDF (courts.ca.gov/documents/2019-JC-BAIL.pdf) — ask the jail or clerk for the amount that applies to this booking. Court: on the court date, report to the Clerk’s Office with identification and arrest paperwork (jail release papers, notice to appear, bail or bond receipts, or arraignment letter). Posting a bond does not guarantee release if a probation hold, parole hold, or out-of-county warrant applies. An ICE detainer alone is not a lawful California hold (Gov. Code § 7284.6). Jail411 does not publish a bondsman directory.

02Property

Ask the jail — steps not on the Corrections page

Property-release steps are not itemized on the reviewed Corrections page. Call (530) 233-4416.

03After release

Call (530) 233-4416 — pickup window not published

Not published as a pickup window on the reviewed Corrections page. Call (530) 233-4416.

After booking

Court, a lawyer, probation, and parole.

Court, counsel, and probation are separate from the jail. State parole is a different agency. This is the process a family actually has to walk—not a directory of private bondsmen or attorneys.

Official location/contact (checked 2026-09-12): 205 S East St, Alturas, CA 96101. Telephone (530) 233-6516. Fax (530) 233-6500. Clerk@modoc.courts.ca.gov. 03 County supervision

Probation is not parole

A probation hold can block release after bail. Official page: adult formal or summary probation, court pre-sentence reports, electronic monitoring / GPS or home detention as an alternative to incarceration. Chief Stephen Svetich.

Youth: there is no published local juvenile hall. Juvenile probation, counseling, and court reports run from this department. Call (530) 233-6324 to confirm where a specific youth is held. State parole is CDCR, not this department.

(530) 233-6324

Custody information(530) 233-4416 →

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
