Amador County jailinformation for families California · find the right place in Jackson
When someone you care about is in Amador County custody, a few details make the next step easier: the right jail, the right visiting window and the right address. Start with the Sheriff’s Incarcerated People search or call Amador County Jail at (209) 223-6522. The adult county jail is at 700 Court Street in Jackson. Mule Creek State Prison and Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp use separate CDCR instructions.
Ask County ProbationConfirm the current placement(209) 223-6387
Confirm custody before you travel, mail or pay.
Begin with the place holding your person.
Amador County Jail in Jackson is the starting point for adult county custody. Mule Creek in Ione and Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp belong to the state system.
For a young person’s county placement, call Amador County Probation.
Knowing which system you need prevents a trip to the wrong building or money sent to the wrong account.
How Amador County custody fits together
The Sheriff’s Corrections Division operates Amador County Jail at 700 Court Street in Jackson. It is the county’s local adult jail and intake location, with a published state-rated capacity of 76: 65 male and 11 female spaces.
A police department may make an arrest without being the place where someone is held. Once a person is booked into the county jail, use the jail’s custody information and family instructions. Sheriff administration shares the jail’s published street address, but the jail information line is (209) 223-6522.
Mule Creek State Prison is a separate CDCR facility in Ione. Its search, visiting, mail and money systems do not carry over to Amador County Jail.
If someone is at Amador County Jail
Plan visits around the jail’s weekend schedule and the person’s housing. Regular visiting provides two 30-minute visits each week; special-housing visits take place on Friday by appointment.
Mail goes to the person’s name, block and cell number at 700 Court Street. Money goes through the lobby kiosk or SmartDeposit, using facility code JAQ and pay location 5500. These details are for the county jail, not Mule Creek or Pine Grove.
Keep the person’s identifying information and current housing details together. You will need them when calling the jail, addressing a letter or arranging family support.
How to find someone in custody
Open the Sheriff’s Incarcerated People search in CrimeGraphics. Use that tab for county-jail custody. The separate Arrests tab lists Sheriff arrests only, and juvenile offenders are not listed in the Sheriff’s public tool.
If you cannot find the person, or the arrest just happened, call (209) 223-6522. Give the person’s name and ask whether they are currently at Amador County Jail. If the arresting agency still has them, ask that agency where to follow up.
Work through these five steps before making a trip, sending a letter or paying into an account.
01Find the personUse Incarcerated People or call the jail at (209) 223-6522.

Regular visits use posted walk-up windows. If you arrive late, you receive the time left in the half-hour when a booth is available. Visitors on probation, parole or AB109 supervision, and people confined in this jail within the last 60 days, are not allowed to visit.
Bringing children and identification
A visiting booth holds no more than two visitors, and a civilian visitor may visit only once per day. Anyone under 18 must come with a parent or guardian; staff may ask for proof of guardianship. Visits are non-contact unless contact visiting has been approved.
The Sheriff lists a driver’s license or state ID, military ID or passport. A school photo ID must accompany a valid birth certificate. For infants, temporary hospital birth records are accepted for 60 days.
A separate parent-child contact program serves children age 10 and younger when the incarcerated parent meets its conditions: a sentence of at least 30 days, attendance at jail parenting classes, and agreement to continue free classes after release. Ask the jail about the program rather than assuming a regular visit includes physical contact.
Day-room phones are available from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., with access subject to security shutdowns. Personal calls may be monitored and recorded. Ask the jail which phone service and account type to use before paying. The available public information does not name a current provider.

Plan a weekend ride and ask for access help
Amador Transit publishes fixed-route service Monday through Friday. Route 6 connects Sutter Hill, Martell, Jackson and Sutter Creek on weekdays except major holidays. Because regular jail visiting is Saturday and Sunday, arrange a weekend ride rather than relying on that weekday schedule. Call (209) 267-9395 for current transit options.
Dial-a-Ride offers shared curb-to-curb service for qualified passengers whose disability or health condition limits fixed-route bus use. Applying requires professional verification. Contact the Mobility Manager at (209) 267-9395 or mobility@amadortransit.com about eligibility and trip availability. This is not a confirmed weekend jail shuttle.
The jail publishes medical and dental care through a nurse and physician, with medications directed by the detention physician. The person in custody or jail staff can request county mental-health assistance. If you have a medication, mental-health or other urgent care concern, call the jail and ask how to pass it to the appropriate staff. Ask for instructions before bringing or mailing medication.
Preston is closed. Youth placement starts with Probation.
Preston Youth Correctional Facility in Ione is closed. Do not use its former address at 201 Waterman Road for visits, mail or deposits. It was a state juvenile institution, not Amador County’s juvenile hall.
Amador County does not operate a local juvenile hall. To find out where a young person is held and how family contact works, call Amador County Probation ↗ at (209) 223-6387. The office is at 675 New York Ranch Road in Jackson.
Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp is also separate. CDCR’s Division of Adult Institutions maintains the camp, which accepts eligible males age 18 and older adjudicated in juvenile courts from contracting counties. For Pine Grove visiting information, call (209) 296-7581.
Mule Creek and Pine Grove use their own instructions
Do not apply Amador County Jail’s visiting schedule, SmartDeposit code JAQ or 700 Court Street mailing address to either state facility. Use the current facility’s own instructions.

An arresting agency and the place holding someone can be different. Ask where the person was taken, then confirm the current facility before making plans.
Different custody systems. Different places to start.
Amador County Jail uses the Sheriff’s roster. Mule Creek uses CDCR’s state-prison search. Youth placement starts with Probation, and federal or immigration custody uses its own locator and facility rules.

Where do I look for someone in the county jail?
Open the Sheriff’s Incarcerated People roster on CrimeGraphics. The Arrests tab covers Sheriff arrests and is not the full jail roster. If you cannot find the person, call the jail at (209) 223-6522.
Is Mule Creek part of Amador County Jail?
No. Mule Creek in Ione is a CDCR state prison. Use CIRIS and the Mule Creek facility guide. County-jail visits, the Court Street mailing address and SmartDeposit code JAQ do not apply there.
Can children come to a jail visit?
Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian; staff may request proof of guardianship. A visiting booth holds no more than two visitors. Ask the jail about the documents needed for your child before traveling.
How do I find where a young person is held?
Call Amador County Probation at (209) 223-6387. Amador does not operate a local juvenile hall. Pine Grove is a separate CDCR youth conservation camp, and Preston Youth Correctional Facility is closed.
Can I take the local bus to a regular weekend visit?
